  1. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 09:46 AM) 37.5M over 3 years per ESPN. I'm okay with this
  2. ugh, If Kenny signs Konerko for the 3 years being reported, the Sox will basically have 2 DHs in 2013 making ~28M total...
  3. I'm worried that most of us just want Konerko to retire a Sox rather than sign the better value 1B. (Lee or LaRoche) Konerko was ranked last in defense/range (UZR/150 of -14.1) among full-time MLB 1B... for comparison Dunn had a -3.3. I know UZR doest factor in runs/errors saved from picked balls etc, but a -14.1 says a lot. With numbers of 13M per for 3 years being thrown around for Konerko... I just think Lee or LaRoche would be the better overall investment.
  4. QUOTE (Bruce_Blixton @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 11:22 PM) Some pretty solid players getting non-tendered, I wouldn't mind seeing Lastings Milledge replace Andruw Jones as our 4th OF and try to sign Eugenio Velez to a minor league contract. Why not Tony Gwynn Jr., instead? (if healthy) An elite defending CF with a 1.7 WAR in '10 (2.4 in '09) Looks like a great 8/9th place hitter when guys in the OF need rest...
  5. WOW I thought for sure he was worth ~7M a year to some teams great signing
  6. He wasnt that bad at 1b last year... He'll probably see 33% playing time at 1b
  7. As a GM, Lee is the better overall choice. As a Fan, I'd rather root for Konerko... Even though Lee is the better player and will probably sign for less, I chose Konerko.
  8. Not really excited about this... but if Jerry is raising the payroll, then okay it's a good signing at best. Hes a purely NL hitter with horrible OF defense (granted he just moved to 1B last year) that strikes out ~33% of the time for 14M a year (4 years too O_O) If this is Kenny's only "big" signing AND hes lets Konerko walk then I am disappoint. Would rather have Konerko at 28/2 than Dunn at 56/4... Might as well sign a couple more type As as the 23rd pick is gone.
  9. Alexei is easily worth 12.5M a year seeing as hes entering his prime. According to his UZR/150 and WAR, Alexei was the 2nd best defensive SS in the MLB in '10 (1st in AL) and 4th best overall SS (1st in AL) If he was a FA this year, I could see the Yanks offering him a generous contract to replace Jeter...
  10. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 24, 2010 -> 09:02 AM) I agree with KW for once. If you are not going to be competitive next season, sell off the veterans with value and start rebuilding to contend, being half way between contending and rebuilding has no benefit. If KW cant sign/acquire the players that are going to put this team into contention, tear this thing down and start rebuilding. The only problem I have with that is that the Sox minor league scouts have not shown to have a great track record of evaluating talent. If that's the attitude, then shouldn't KW be fired ASAP? Because basically looking back over the last two season, hes the reason the Sox wouldn't be competitive...
  11. Even though they overpaid, this is a nice signing by DET for a C/DH that has about two more prime offensive years left... If vmart is worth 12.5 a year I see no reason why AJ wont at least be offered 14M/2 from a team. Also since the Tigers are losing their 19th pick, I'd expect them to sign a couple more Type A FAs.
  12. A lot of posts in this thread bashing Granderson. Simply put: hes comparable to Rios, yet cheaper. Granderson has had 5 straight years of 3+ RAW and is one of the better fielding CFs in the league. (better than Rios) Yes hes a K machine, but calling him a platoon player is just silly. Having one of the best overall outfields in the MLB is tempting, but I'd rather just re-sign Jones for RF...
  13. This protected picks/compensation thing should be reevaluated or totally dropped for type A FAs... How it is fair for a borderline team to give up their 16th pick for a Type A while the WS champs would only have to give up their 30th pick.... Picks 1-22 (also any unsigned compensation picks) should be protected. (non playoff teams) OnTopic: It looks like the Sox will be the 19/20th best team with the 22/23 pick. Do you see KW going after Dunn/Crawford or some Type A bullpen help while sacrificing the farm? Even though he gave up 5 years of a cheap Hudson for 1.25 of an expensive Jackson... I doubt he goes after any Type As to improve this team.
  14. resign omar & jones, Tank to 1B, morel to 3B, and Flowers at C invest the saved $ into the bullpen
  15. I'd just roll the dice and have TCQ as the full time '11 DH and resign Jones as the RF
  16. TCQ is one of the worst RF in the league... Choo is one of the best.
  17. great news, hes one of the few players in the MLB that can carry a team to the playoffs
  18. people worried obviously didn't follow '05 and '08... or most of this season.
  19. 31 years old, slower/weaker due to knee injury, -1.1 WAR, bad fielder at 2b, hasnt played 3b in 2+ years, cant hit NL pitching where do I sign up? Nix is the better overall player and thats not saying much...
  20. Even if hes "healthy" I'd shut him down till after the break and just let Hudson take over
  21. Whats with trading Buehrle? Why not just trade/dump our crap players and hope for a rebound in 2011... instead of hoping for a good team in 2015? Other than our 2011 free agents and Pierre, Teahen, Linebrink and Jenks? it'd be best to stay put and and not cheap out in the offseason like KW did this year. Getting rid of Pierre and signing crawford in the offseason would be a start.
  22. I still think this team can go on a run... they've played the worst offensively in the AL and are only 13-19 (8 back) The Twins have played the best in the AL so far and I doubt that'll last all season. I can honestly see this team winning 86 games, hopefully it'll be enough
