  1. Pavano is really the most underrated pitcher on this staff, I could see him giving us some trouble. But then again, we are proving all the old White Sox rules wrong this season. Lets beat the crap out of this New England Mofo P.S. no offense to New England, I love Cape Cod, Nantucket Nectors, and that whole freedom trail you guys got in boston, keep up the good work.
  2. WINNER Holy s***, Ribbie Rubarb just made me toss my cookies Nice job Ribbie!
  3. Yea, I forgot about that one. Hopefully quite a few of the people at that game are still around to tell the stories.
  4. Since we have had quite a few "whats your favorite movie?" threads, I figure why not a least favorite, or just some movies you hated so much you had to leave the theater. Bubble Boy is the only movie I have given up on. Though MIB II was pretty painful.
  5. Old people are getting major play on the soxtalk board. We have old people fighting snakes, old people sky diving...simply amazing.
  6. Holy s*** she looks just like my friends mom I can't wait to show that picture to him

    Allergy question..

Good Luck Steff btw CW, congrats on the big win last night! The Lakers were no match for the Pistons.
  8. My dad went to the final game of that series, and the second home game of the 1959 series and game 1 in 1993, and games 1 and 2 in 2000. That gives him a beautiful playoff record of 0-5! I went to game 1 in 93 and game 1 in 2000, so I also lack a win. However very few living people, if any, have witnessed the Sox win a playoff game in chicago.
  9. This is a picture from the video released by the terrorists.
  10. CAIRO, Egypt (June 16) -- The captors of a New Jersey man abducted in Saudi Arabia distributed a videotape of him and threatened to kill him unless Saudi authorities release al-Qaida prisoners within three days. Paul Johnson, 49, of Stafford Township, N.J., was kidnapped Saturday by a group calling itself al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula. The organization is believed to be headed by al-Qaida's chief in the Saudi kingdom, Abdulaziz Issa Abdul-Mohsin al-Moqrin. On Tuesday, an Islamic Web site showed a videotape of Johnson wearing a blindfold. ''My name is Paul Marshall Johnson, Jr.,'' says the hostage, seated and with an elaborate tattoo showing on his left shoulder. ''I am an American. ... I work on Apache helicopters.'' A U.S. official said the threat should be taken ''very seriously'' because the posting appeared to be credible and militants have used the site before. ''It has been a good indicator in the past,'' the official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity. The Web site was posted on the same day Saudi Arabia's ruling crown prince warned Islamic militants that the kingdom planned to deploy more security forces than they had ever faced before. ''Be assured that the kingdom has enough men whom you haven't seen so far, but within the coming few days you will see them,'' Crown Prince Abdullah told the militants, whose attacks have increased during the past three months. His remarks were televised. The tape on the Web site showed a hooded man reading a statement and holding an AK-47 rifle. As the man was reading, a subtitle on the screen identified him as al-Moqrin. His statement was similar to a printed message on the Web site that carried the name of al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula. It said the group gave Saudi authorities 72 hours - by Friday - to release ''mujahadeen'' militants or it would kill the hostage. Segments of the tape appeared to have been edited together and showed a blindfolded Johnson sitting in a chair with his profile to the camera. In one sequence, Johnson appeared to have a bandage around his neck, or a gag that had been pulled down from his mouth. The tape also displayed his Lockheed Martin identification card. Adel al-Jubeir, foreign affairs adviser to the Saudi government, told The Associated Press that the kingdom was trying to determine the authenticity of the tape and would consult with the Bush administration about what to do next. Al-Jubeir also said the current situation with the Islamic militants was not a crisis but a serious issue that the Saudi kingdom will be dealing with for some time. ''Their strategy is to try to sow fear in people's hearts, and to panic, and to cause an exodus of foreign workers from Saudi Arabia, in particular Westerners,'' he said. ''They are trying to scare foreign workers into leaving Saudi Arabia because they believe it will weaken the Saudi economy and consequently weaken the Saudi government, but they are mistaken.'' The statement on the Web site says the holy warriors of the Arabian peninsula's Fallujah Brigade had ''hit'' the engineering team that ''oversees the development of the American Apache helicopter that attacks Muslims in Palestine and Afghanistan.'' The statement is dated June 15. The day Johnson was seized, Islamic militants shot and killed Kenneth Scroggs, from Laconia, N.H., in his garage. Scroggs was the third Westerner killed in a week, after the shooting death of an Irish cameraman for the British Broadcasting Corp. on June 6 and another American who was also killed in his garage June 8. Saudi security forces arrested a militant north of Riyadh on Tuesday as they stepped up presence in and around the city in a hunt for Johnson's kidnappers. The militants previously threatened to treat Johnson as U.S. troops treated Iraqi detainees, a reference to the month-old controversy over sexual and other abuse at Abu Ghraib prison. Members of Johnson's family, through a police officer stationed outside their home in Little Egg Harbor Township, N.J., declined an offer by CNN to view the video before it was aired. They could not immediately be reached for comment. On Monday, Johnson's son spoke to reporters about his father's love of Arabic culture. Paul Johnson III said his father once sent a copy of the Quran to his sister, with passages highlighted from the Islamic holy text that he felt were especially important. ''He felt he never had any fear for his safety and respects and honors their traditions and cultures,'' Johnson III said. ''Dad said many times he loved living in Saudi Arabia.'' Westerners in Saudi Arabia are responding to the attacks by moving to high-security compounds or even to neighboring Bahrain, and by pushing for the right to armed private guards, according to diplomats and real estate agents. Western embassies in Riyadh, the Saudi capital, are negotiating with the government for a relaxation of the ban on private security guards carrying firearms, a Western diplomat said, speaking on condition of anonymity. 11. except that black stuff that this entire nation revolves around.
  12. You have a right mind and you realize that bombing a city full of citizens isn't even something worth joking about. He shows no respect for the arab people that live there and are not terrorists. And that is why American citizens will continue to die. I was referring to more of our citizens dying. If we took out anger on them and went about hanging their corpses like they do to us, they would strike back at us and our fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, cousins, etc. would be at risk. Diplomacy fails because people strive to gain too much.
  13. I addressed the diplomacy issue in my last post. I don't feel like telling the history of Vietnam again, so you can just read my opinion there. The people of Iraq who are considering terrorism won't respond to force. They believe their lives only mean something if they kill for allah. They don't think they can be defeated because they think they are fighting for allah. So our force will be met with their force until either a-their lives improve or b-they are all dead or c-they get a hold of weapons of mass destruction and organized society crumbles
  14. Here is what matters: keeping the USA, and free countries all over the world safe. How do we achieve that? By making the middle east a better place to live. Good living conditions, freedom, and an education not blurred by rhetoric will stop arab citizens from becoming killers. There are 2 ways to achieve the above statement. 1- take over these countries and do some nation building. 2- diplomacy and good will. Neither is a quick fix, neither is guarunteed to work. Both are extremely expensive. However, chances are #1 won't work, because people get angry when their country is being destroyed. And if you fail in achieving #1, you have only made matters worse. #2 on the other hand will at worst make the US look like the good guys and portray the foreign leaders as not wanting peace. #1 is also risky because of the instability that comes hand in hand with nation building. Instability is what terrorists look for. Instability gives rise to evil leaders. We are looking at a catch-22. A smoothe talking evil terrorist leader could turn Iraq into hell again if he was elected by the people. But it is not fair to deprive these people of the freedom to choose a leader. Following the French-Indochina war, North and South Vietnam were to unite in an election to pick a national leader. North Vietnam was already being led by Ho Chi Minh, the US feared Ho Chi Minh would win, so they did not allow the election to occur. Diem was placed in power, and he was the worst thing to happen to South Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh would have won because a lot of the people of S. Vietnam had nothing, so communism was appealing. When Diem was placed in power the people still had nothing, nothing was accomplished and communism was still appealing. In Iraq replace the South Vietnamese people with Iraqi's and replace communism with terrorism and you have the same situation. How do we make terrorism unappealing? Give them lives worth living. The war in Iraq (#1 from above) is not doing that for the people. So until we stop the hate and the killing, the people will turn to terrorism.
  15. This is what I agree with I am a moderate and I do tolerate views from both sides of the spectrum. However, this guy says things that are bordering on reactionary. A Reactionary point of view should not be tolerated by anyone not wearing a swastica arm band. Anyone who believes we should drop 100 of the most horrific bombs in our arsenal on a city full of civilians should not be allowed to speak. It has nothing to do with democrat or republican. Any one who has a right mind knows that this it is a stupid thing to suggest. Perhaps when I am in the military I will be confronted with 50 arab terrorists. I am forced to mow them down with my M-16. In my rage I kill them all, impale their bodies, and for a bit of cruel revenge I hang their corpses. Surely then I will have taught my enemies a lesson, then they won't mess with the U.S.! Unfortunately this kind of anger will only enrage them further and those 50 dead terrorists will be replaced and more citizens will die. Diplomacy and good will wins wars like this my friend, not anger. I will instead direct my anger at those who refuse to see what is going on.
  16. I think 2000's was a little better but it is close. With Durham and valentin at the top of the order we knew what we had, but Harris and Uribe are still have to prove themselves in my mind. This years offense is really good, but 2000 just seemed more reliable. Then again things are always better in memory.
  17. Chicago would get a black eye...but so would a lot of cub fans
  18. People will always hate presidents that come from the opposite party. Democrats pick on Reagan even though our country completely turned around under his watch. Republicans love to pick on Clinton, even though half of them became 10 times richer under his watch. Frankly I don't care if Reagan didn't fight in a war. He restored some pride in america. Something that had been lacking since Lyndon Johnson started throwing around the word 'escelate'. And I also don't care if Clinton got head in the oval office. I can say it was great to be an american in the 90's
  19. By the way, where did this come from?
  20. I love it when assholes think they are funny. As a moderate I agree and disagree with certain points. First of all there is no excuse for the actions of our prison gaurds. I don't care if terrorists blow up Washington D.C. We still must take the higher moral ground and represent this country in the best way possible. I am sure arab people thought very highly of america when they saw their brothers tied together naked. It was simply one of the most disgraceful moments in the last century of American history. Secondly this guy loves to stereotype. Disgusting...simply disgusting. I live 20 minutes from NYC. Standing on my street I could see the plume of smoke. I Also saw the palestinian children celebrating, I heard about the palestinians celebrating in Liberty State Park who were deported soon after. Are those people wrong? They are certainly terribly misguided. So how do we fix their wrongs? How do we win over people in that region? I don't have all the answers but I know making sarcastic remarks and terrible generalizations won't do the trick. I actually seem to remember quite a few muslim leaders coming out and denouncing the attacks. This guy should read the book "The Ugly American" I read it in my history class this year, and I am astonished at how history repeats. This is when I realized this guy is totally inane and shouldn't even be allowed to speak his mind. People can be so stupid. Anyone who suggests that we should start freely bombing cities should die in the terror attacks that would follow a campaign like that. What a f***ing moron, does he want peace? Or does he want his fellow americans killed. This guy probably loves the fact that the Twin Towers were destroyed. Now he has a bloody towel to wave at the Arabs. Well this guy can go f*** himself, because he is part of the reason terror attacks will continue.
  21. First of all CW would never have a reason to use some sort of comeback against apu if they agree on an issue. comebacks and critical remarks are reserved for the opponent in an argument not an ally. The whole veteran thing has been an age old question. Is it fair that the fat man in the suit calls for war, and the young man just starting a life has to go fight it? During the civil war the aristocrats of southern society called for war, yet they were not the ones fighting. In the north the fat cats wanted to see a war to help their industry, yet they paid for people to fight for their sons. The higher classes of people have always had more support for war than the lower class. The higher class is of status and represents the country, they want their country to flex its muscles. The lower class meanwhile doesn't get college exemptions and ends up on the front lines. However, it is my belief that you don't have to put yourself in the line of fire. There is a good chance I will be in the armed forces in 2005, but even if I do serve, I will always feel the opinion of the non-vet will be just as valid as mine. However the ability to have an opinion comes with responsibility. Hopefully people will always realize the death and terror that come with war.
  22. Janet Reno loved the dramatic entrance. Elian had to be taken away with a gun pointed at him. Waco had to have tanks blowing down walls. But we americans love to be the life of the party
  23. I remember watching that game. I had gone to the friday game of that series, a game the sox won. It appeared as if we might sweep the cubs that year after winning the first four games. But we went down easily that saturday and then again on sunday night.
