QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 10:08 PM) Boston would not give anyone important to this years team for Sale either. That's why boston traded Moncada, who isn't quite ready, instead of benintendi, who proved he was ready. It all has to do with the upcoming year and making the playoffs. Bregman and Meadows aren't going anywhere for anyone. They will trade from the minor leagues but not the MLB. Meadows isn't an MLB player. Bregman isn't why Houston will or won't make the playoffs in 2017. Their 2016 offense plus the position player additions this off season will ensure that in 2017 as well. Their starting pitching certainly is the gaping hole. So GM speak about MLBers aside, Bregman has nothing to do with 2017 but what he'll be eventually as is Meadows.

I love all of these "untouchables" on other teams. Quintana is an absolute stud and is beyond "untouchable"...but guess what, he is touchable. And so are these supposed untouchables from other teams. The stare downs will continue until someone breaks...and someone will break, it just won't be Hahn.

Sticking with the new descriptor for this thread, here is a tourism video for place I suggested earlier, the Celinto Catayente...Towers

I get that prospects are an inexact science but I find both of Gammons' insights to be hard to believe. Sox "light" offer to Houston turned down and houston's "heavy" offer to TB turned down. I'm more inclined to believe that Gammons is being phased out as an insider similar to his $20 bill likeness, Andrew Jackson and Rosenthal et al are the new Harriet Tubmans.

QUOTE (reiks12 @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 07:11 AM) Vietnam is next! Going to be in Hanoi for a week then its back home. Machu Picchu is definitely on my list. After Peru, you may want to hit up Santiago, Chile and check out the Celinto Catayente. I hear that architect, Pat Healy, constructed it. It's just down the street from the Estadio Olympico.

I think the white sox are adamant that Bregman is included. And it is Bregman who is the "MLB" piece that Luhnow balked at not Musgrove. Outside of getting a longer shot in the bigs last year, Bregman is no different than a Moncada level player that we got for Sale. And everything we heard is that Hahn wants a Sale type return for Q (albeit w likely more position players than pitchers). So I think Bregman/tucker is the ask similar to Moncada/Kopech and the last couple pieces will be negotiated fairly quickly if Luhnow comes around to the first two.

QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Jan 4, 2017 -> 06:03 PM) Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal now If #WhiteSox move Quintana, they likely will sign free-agent SP on one-year deal to help protect youngsters. Could always flip at deadline. common sense, but hey it's relative! Or pluck Dylan Covey in the rule 5 draft

QUOTE (pablo @ Jan 4, 2017 -> 05:56 PM) Couldn't agree more. Yankees hold the trump card on almost all other teams if they are willing to include Torres or Frazier. Right now, they haven't been pushed to that limit yet since Pirates seem unwilling to include Meadows. Until they are forced to go there, they'll act like they are "longshots" for Q while all along keeping tabs on him. BTW long time reader, first time poster. The Q trade discussions have been so fun that I couldn't resist posting. Welcome. Agree, I think Yanks understand they have no shot w/out Torres or Frazier. They are the swoop in candidate a la Boston. I'm hoping instead we can package Frazier w Q to get Bregman, tucker, Paulino ++ from Houston.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 4, 2017 -> 05:45 PM) Sweet! Another Q thread to avoid until anything actually happens. By avoid, you mean post in, correct?

How our current top 100 prospects match up with past years
heirdog replied to FT35's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Most of the "wow" players of yore are position players and 4 out of 6 for Sox are pitchers, who notoriously have a higher bust rate. But hoping for the best. Something about Giolito screams Gavin Floyd to me but that would be serviceable I suppose. -

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
heirdog replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Anyone else feel the dodgers more inclined to acquire a guy like Quintana now that they have spent big on their key free agent pieces? Top of the rotation w Kershaw and Quintana a lot more bankable than kershaw + anyone else they currently have. And at under $10 million per, gives them cost control for near elite pitcher over the 4 year window they just signed turner and Jansen (5th yr opt out). We take Puig off their hands to get Urias, Bellinger and a lottery ticket. -
Red Sox acquire Chris Sale, White Sox get Moncada+

http://nesn.com/2016/12/heres-dave-dombrow...ris-sale-trade/ Wasn't sure if this was posted already but the video gives a detailed view of the Sale trade negotiations. Pretty sure the "too much to give up player" is Devers as Nightengale reported a week ago. -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 01:55 AM) Guys from 15 years ago? Should you never trade for any highly thought of prospect? I've seen comparisons of Moncada to BJ/Melvin Upton and Byron Buxton, and that still excites the hell out of me. Upton was disappointing for his expectations and Buxton has been the same. They can still add a ton of value and are (possibly) very good players. Kyle Tucker would be a great get. I think I came across ineffectively. I agree with you and would love to have Tucker. It was just something about those stats and the description of sweet swinging lefties whose power would develop which reminded me of reed and Sweeney and how I waited for that to happen even after their trades. -

I'd give Quintana, Robertson and Frazier a 0% chance of being w the White Sox at spring training. There's been too much discussion and they are too far along in discussions for some team not to blink. Abreu likely stays until July to regain his value. Nate Jones stays simply to up his value as our closer. Those two might be with the Sox all of next year unless we get overwhelmed at the deadline. Melky, Jennings and limited interest guys will get shipped as soon as someone gives a viable piece either before the season or at the deadline. -

QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 01:41 AM) I know I'm getting the reputation as a Kyle Tucker fan boy, but i can't help it lol. His overall line on the year was .285/.360/.438/.798 at age 19 with 9 HR/69 RBI/32 SB/81K in 117 games - a bit better than his stats at just Lancaster. With that swing and his hit tool and his body, the power most likely will develop. For every one player who has in-game power at such a young age, two players won't develop power until their early to mid twenties. That being said, no way in hell a 19 year old guy in A ball should be considered untouchable for a player like Quintana by a team trying to win now. Bregman I can understand being truly untouchable because his loss would affect the curent team. Get real, Houston. I'm having visions of Jeremy Reed and Ryan Sweeney right now... -

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 03:28 PM) I assume he's on a plane currently heading to wherever he resides. And then gets back to his phone. He's inserting his credit card into the seat back slot right now to release the "airplane phone" and make some calls. -

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 01:51 PM) Man I wanted Devers badly. *Sad face* Hang in there...if we had received Devers, then no Basabe whom I think will develop well. The speed, defense and arm alone give him a high floor at a premium defensive position. I think his power and approach at the plate will pleasantly surprise. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 11:27 AM) Rick Hahn has a feedback guy. My guess is its Marty34 and Rick is a sadist. It's clearly bucket. He gives RH the pulse of Soxtalk and Hahn gives him some juicy nuggets

This trade might be less about player value in a rebuild versus clearing the deck of all the dissenting individuals...Sale & Eaton. Can you imagine Eaton in the media (including social) after Sale is traded? He's going to have several foot in mouth tweets and other sound bites that make the org look bad. So i'm sure hahn and KW are both aware that if Sale is traded, the next guy out is Eaton and start fresh with a boatload of talent that washes away the crappy 2016 drama. Both are at or near their apex in value to the Sox as neither is likely to be signed beyond this contract so might as well get as much as you can.

Sale & Robertson to Boston for JBJr, Moncada, Swihart, E.Rod, Groome

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 13, 2016 -> 07:29 PM) I kinda take this guy with a grain of salt. That saying teams are probably going to go for the elites of chapman, jansen, and melancon first. Really a thin market for closers. Robertson may get more interest once those guys sign Exactly. And when these guys get $20+ million per, we get a legit prospect for Robertson.
