  1. Xianyang seems like a nice place.
  2. Lesley Gore (It's My Party, You Don't Own Me and many others) died of lung cancer. I had a major crush on Lesley.
  3. Sam Andrew, guitarist and founding member of Big Brother & The Holding Company died 10 weeks after a heart attack and open heart surgery that followed it. He was 73.
  4. I sure haven't paid any attention.
  5. Maybe it really is Maybelline.
  6. Excellent hamburger I'm enjoying right now as I peruse this thread.
  7. In 1961 I was in 6th Grade. A pack of Topps baseball card cost 5 cents. I knew a kid who bought packs for the gum and gave all the cards to other kids.
  8. I bought cards like crazy from 6th grade till maybe my freshman year in high school. But even then I still bought them now and then. When I was about 14 my older brother gave me all his older cards (from the early to mid 50's). When I was in my early 20's I gave ALL my cards to some little kid. If he hung on to them, he had a small fortune. One of my sons got into collecting baseball and basketball cards. I would buy him a sh*tload of cards every Christmas and we'd have a lot of fun opening up all the packs. It kind of rekindled my interest in card collecting and my son and I concentrated on collecting White Sox cards, of which we have quite a collection.
  9. I think it'll be Kottaras and that's who I would prefer. Soto will be good insurance to have around in case of any injuries.
  10. After Cubs (and Sox) games back in the day channel 9 had a post game show called The 10th Inning. I remember seeing Ernie on the show so many times with Jack Brickhouse. He was such a great interview and such a nice guy! As much as I have always hated the Cubs, and man, I HATE the Cubs, you just couldn't help but like Ernie Banks. R.I.P., Mr. Cub.
  11. I like this. Welcome back, Jesse Crain.
  12. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 20, 2015 -> 01:53 PM) If I fried it and buried it in cheese, could it really be THAT much worse than eggplant parmesan? WTF?! I LOVE eggplant parmesan!

    One month away

35 years ago my ex-wife and I had our first date on Valentines Day. I took her out to dinner. Less than a month later we were living together. Exactly 4 months later we got married.
  14. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 11:53 AM) You are one of my favorite posters. Not kidding. If nothing else, you keep it interesting around here. I agree. Thanks Greg. Thanks Wite. Thanks, BigEd
  15. QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 7, 2015 -> 12:19 PM) I never realized how mediocre Ted Lyons was. There's another number they can unretire as far as I'm concerned. A 3.67 career E.R.A. in that era is pretty decent and winning 260 games for a bad White Sox team year after year ain't too shabby.
  16. Really interesting stuff. I didn't know that the AZL was a non-revenue league and attendance isn't even kept.
  17. Love that picture. I totally remember that guy, though it's been years. R.I.P.
  18. I love Soxtalk. This thread is a wonderful. Thanks hi8is! That's about it. Thanks, BigEd.
  19. QUOTE (Douglas Rome @ Jan 1, 2015 -> 07:07 AM) I think Ozzie is funnier, he gets drunk and goes off on Mike North on the air, you can't make this up. thanks, douglas What a baseball team should expect of it's manager: 1. A good sense of humor. 2. Gets drunk. 3. Goes off on asshole radio guy. Check, check and check!! Ozzie wins over Robin or for that matter anyone else. thanks, douglas
  20. I wouldn't want to lose one of our top prospects but Viciedo and a couple of our mid-range prospects? That'd be nice! If only.
  21. I think you have to be very selective about what or who's numbers you retire. I think the Bulls have done this very well. They haven't retired Tom Boerwinkle's number. Or Norm Van Lier's. Just to name a couple. Those were guys who were long time Bulls and/or very special players and well-loved by the fans. I think Ozzie perhaps could get recognition like the Bulls did for Phil Jackson. His name and banner is up there with Jordan, Pippen, Sloan and Love just reading "Jackson - Coach". I like the idea too of having a White Sox Hall of Fame and not even having numbers retired. Wouldn't it then be a special honor to have the number of a White Sox Hall of Famer? When did the practice of sports teams retiring numbers begin anyway? It's a nice recognition of course. But maybe it needs to stop. Former players, coaches and managers can be honored with statues and plaques.......good enough.
  22. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 28, 2014 -> 03:47 PM) 78-0. Wow. 80-1 Let's hear it for the women......er, woman.
