I guess I don't understand why Floyd would be moved in a pennant race if the concern is the durability of Sale, Peavy and Quintana. Floyd and Liriano will be rounding out the rotation, and they can even use Humber as a guy to throw into the rotation during the month of August to give everyone an extra day of rest. With most of the rotation in flux after the season, they maybe they think over the options they have, but I think keeping Floyd is important for the stretch run.

I don't think Kenny Williams is making any moves, specifically in the starting rotation, until he knows the status on Gavin Floyd and John Danks. I'm sure he's holding his breath that Jose Quintano can keep it going, and Sale/Peavy remain healthy, but right now, he's got 3 guys who he has to feel pretty good about, 2 veteran guys, one of whom (Floyd) should be back soon, and 2 other guys (Humber and Axelrod) who are really only needed as either 5th starter or occasional rest for his front line starters. I don't think he's making a major move if he thinks Floyd is fine to go with the Big 3 unless Floyd is part of a deal in getting another pitcher back (highly unlikely) and he probably won't do anything at all if he is confident Danks will be back in mid August. At that point, it's more or less, tinkering around the edges. They like what they have in a healthy Crain, Thornton and Reed although whether Crain will pith the way he has in the past is probably a question right now so that's probably where you can see the most likely addition - another veteran type who can handle the 7th, 8th and maybe even a 9th inning. If Crain is healthy, an added bonus, and that would be 4 guys late they have confidence in to go with a pretty solid starting rotation. To a lesser degree is maybe another veteran OF who can play late innings, and maybe be an extra hitter. Maybe a more experience Jordan Danks, but he has been ok so far, so that could be what they stay with. All in all, it really depends on what they think of Danks/Floyd and the level of confidence they have in the Big 3 maintaining.

With Detroit having their hands full with the Angels, and the White Sox on the road with the bottom of the rotation going vs. a respectable, and finally healthy team in Boston (until Ortiz went down), big performances by Axelrod and Humber in providing quality starts and not putting the bullpen through long innings, especially with the rookie going on Wednesday, no off days until Monday. Very impressive work - I'll take a split in Boston and hopefully the Angels can do the same in Detroit.

How do the White Sox make a trade for Youkilis if they can't take on cash (in other words, buy him from Boston) and don't have much to offer in terms of minor league talent if they can't just take on the contract? Don't the White Sox have to trade money for money?

With Sale, Peavy and Quintana holding together (although, each have obvious concerns), it really does come down to Gavin Floyd getting things together, and leaving one question mark, which is hopefully John Danks, who may end up serving as a quasi-trade addition if he doesn't have a serious arm injury and can return in the next 1-2 months. As for the 5th spot, Humber's clearly in need of a good start tonight else I do think they will make a switch, whether it's Axelrod, or some other option. Unfortunately, the White Sox are regressing back to .500 quickly here, hope they can get things right in LA against a good team.
