Sunday Yankees vs Whitesox 7/16/06 Gamethread
RME JICO replied to southsideirish71's topic in 2006 Season in Review
Stop the bleeding. The Sox need something positive to happen going into Detroit. Maybe we need a new banner? -
The 3rd and 4th innings of yesterday's game were microcosms of his recent struggles. I think he only had 7 pitches in the 4th, and in those 7 pitches the Yankees got a single, bunt single, fielder's choice, a double, and another single. It definitely seemed to me that the Yankees had a strategy vs Buehrle, and it worked perfect. Swing at the first pitch strike and lay down some bunts. His pitches have been somewhat up in the zone lately and he is not locating like he normally does. When he does locate, it looks like he is taking something off the pitch, which is hit hard anyway.

Politte down, Widger to go.
-
There are a ton of threads about different scenarios, so I was curious to see what everyone thinks in general. Are the rumors of Garcia or Vazquez going to come true or is there some type of shocker going to happen with someone like Buehrle or Contreras. Garland seems the least likely to move due to his No-trade clause, but a move to the West Coast (LAD, SF, SD) is still possible if he waives the clause.

7/15 Game Thread White Sox vs. Yankees
RME JICO replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in 2006 Season in Review
BOOM Big Jim! -
QUOTE(Reddy @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 12:26 PM) to be fair, when Widge is in the Lineup, so is Pablo, Cintron and Mack (interchange with BA, makes no difference) on average... not a high powered lineup exactly Have the Sox ever started Pablo, Cintron, Mack, and Widger in the same game? 4 bench players. I know Ozzie does a combination of 2 or 3 of them, but I don't remember 4 of them starting the game together. Either way, that has nothing to do with his own stats.
-
Just because a player turns into an All-Star doesn't mean the team that drafted him did a good job, or should be disappointed that they let him go. I think that is more of an indication of the system they are in when it happens. I think a team needs to have the right balance of prospects and veterans, not just one or the other. The Sox seem to have a pretty good balance of experience on their roster, and as long as they can keep filtering in youth at a couple of positions every year, they will have the payroll flexibility to lock up veterans to mutli-year deals.

QUOTE(valponick @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 01:47 AM) Buehrle 2006- 19 Win Shares, 39.6 VORP, 6.2 WARP Vazquez 10 Win Shares, 39.9 VORP, 6.1 WARP It's probably a discussion for another thread but....Vazquez has actually been slightly better than Buehrle this year. I think you were looking at another year for WS and VORP: Win Shares 2006: Buehrle - 9 Vazquez - 7 VORP 2006: Buehrle - 19.8 Vazquez - 9.9 For looking at pitchers, I use my own number to come up with a comparison ((TB + HBP + BB) / IP). I think this is better than WHIP since it adds the extra base hits into the equation. I understand that it is still affected by fielding, but not as much as some of the other stats. WHIP doesn't show whether the hit was a single or a HR, this computation does. TBIP - 2006 Contreras 1.62 Buehrle 1.98 Vazquez 1.99 Garcia 2.22 Garland 2.27 Normally under 1.50 is Cy Young award caliber and somewhere around 2.00 is average, over 2.40 is bad.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 12:47 AM) ....and the streak of a White Sox pitcher not having a quality start with Widger behind the plate continues. Last time it happened: June 15th, Buehrle against the Rangers Time before that, Garcia against the Scrubs (a team he owns.) on May 20th Conicidence? Thats just horrible. His .194 batting is not too good either. So what exactly does Widger do for the Sox?

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 12:26 PM) You mean the back-up catcher? I'll pass. He has some attitude issues. The thing people forget about Widger is that he's our player rep. Thus, he's going nowhere during the season. No, I'm sorry I didn't clarify. I meant if the Sox traded with Phillies, they could get Fabio Castro back since he was traded for Haigwood.
-
I don't see Mackowiak going anywhere this year. Tim Kurkjian on BB 2nite said the Mets were looking at Livan Hernandez and didn't mention the Sox. That is actually a pretty good sign that something is in the works, because everyone knows how KW works. Maybe the Sox could get Castro back with the deal.
-
I would say the biggest move will be McCarthy to the rotation and moving one of the current starters to gain 6-9 million in payroll back that can be used on Crede and some of the other Arb eligible players or FAs. There is a good chance that a couple of current minor league players will also make the 25-man roster next year, replacing guys like Politte, Widger, and Cintron or Pods as well. That will also reduce the payroll without taking a hit in performance. Look for the Sox to lock up Buehrle, Dye, Iguchi, and Crede to longer deals too.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 04:37 AM) Imagine last year's pitching with this year's offense? Scary! I never expected the offense to be this good, and I never expected the pitching to be this inconsistent. That combo of last year's pitching and this year's offense would be lethal.

Is this the year that the Sox have a 50 homerun hitter?
RME JICO replied to tonyho7476's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think 50 is easily achievable for him at this point. Here are his monthly totals: April (80 AB) - 10 May (100 AB) - 10 June (72 AB) - 5 July (37 AB) - 5 If he was to keep up his current pace he would end up with 57 HRs, 120 Runs, and 133 RBI for the season in 500 ABs. -
I am creating a White Sox Firefox Extension similar to the one I have for SoxTalk and need some help with links. QUOTE(wilmot825 @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 09:57 AM) Rumors are going around that the Phillies may deal CF Aaron Rowand back to the White Sox for pitcher Javier Vazquez and UTL player Rob Mackowiak. Then next season letting LF Scott Podsednik walk and have Rowand in left and Anderson in center with Dye holding down right. I am hoping on hope that they bring back A-Row and put him and Anderson in the lineup at the same time. Anderson is begining to hit and his defense is great. Fingers Crossed Where did you get this? So the Sox trade Rowand, Haigwood, and Gio for Thome; trade El Duque, Viz, and Young for Vazquez; and Marte for Mackowiak, and if the Sox were to do this trade, they would end up with Thome for (Haigwood, Gio, El Duque, Viz, Young, and Marte). There is no way that is going to happen. The Sox are not going to get that thin on Starting Pitchers. Starting Pitching is more valuable than OF, so if this was to happen, the Sox are going to get more than just Rowand in return.

Report: Bonds indictment could come soon

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 06:39 PM) I think that only one group can credibly be called out for "witchhunt[ing]" him, and that's the guys at the SF Chronicle, the newspaper that devoted so many resources and time to find out what he was using, and when. And, personally, I wish more newspapers would do that to more people, in sports and ESPECIALLY out. But I call bulls*** on the witchhunt. I don't think what they did was a witchhunt, but I guess you could call it that. Edit: Actually, I think that's BS, too. I take that back. I don't think you can credibly say that a newspaper doing its job was witchhunting. I think the newspaper was just conducting some high quality investigative reporting, which more media outlets need to do instead of regurgitating each others news. -
Thome has been the Offensive MVP, but if you couple Dye's Offensive numbers with his solid D, he gets the slight edge.
-
Nothing on mlbtraderumors.com, so there may actually be something to this rumor. The Yankees will definitely make a move to shore up their decimated Outfield, but I was actually thinking they would try to get Burrell or Abreu from Philly.
-
I don't think Fields is going anywhere unless the Sox have a deal that is too good to pass up. I don't think Gordon fits that mold. Crede is also not a guarantee to sign after his ARB years, even though I hope he does. So I don't think Fields gets traded unless they have Crede locked into a longer deal. Now if they do move Fields to LF and he progresses defensively, you can pencil him into LF with the Sox in 07. If Soriano can do it, Fields should be able to. At least he is playing on that side of the mound, so the balls will be coming at him from the same direction, which might help the transition.
-
The only way the Sox do this is if they release Dye outright while signing Sierra to a long term deal. Lock him up KW! This is the type of move that will get the Sox over the top. He also can play DH, what a bonus! /green

QUOTE(KJean @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 12:15 AM) I found this one online as well... And just let me know...Felix, Scwible, RME JICO, or whoever...if you don't want me posting any pictures. I don't want to step on anyone's toes! The best thing to do is if you don't see it posted, post it. That way if Felix and Swible are busy or can't post, we won't miss any pics. I will do the same.
