Official Soxtalk 2006 World Cup Thread
Felix replied to DePloderer's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I hate both Italy and France, but I was rooting for Italy because of Buffon. Zidane is basically a thug, and I was glad to see the ref actually give him the red card (I thought he wouldn't because of who Zidane is, and since it was his last game). I'm not real happy that Italy won it, but I was rooting for them for the day, so I'm far from upset -

Ladies and gentlemen, this is the longest gamethread of the year, and second longest since last year (WS game 3 beat it ) -

Sorry if this has been noted already, but Pods needs to shave. -
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 08:40 AM) And if he never does? You can bring it up and make me eat some crow, I'll be more than willing to.

Imagine if Dusty didn't get his hands on Prior and Wood... things would be very different. It's a shame.
-
I'd be surprised if he had any value, but hey, if the Sox got any sort of prospects back for him, I'd be ecstatic.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 09:35 PM) Brandon McCarthy still has shown me nothing really. I also don't like how he throws the ball anymore. He was better off with his mechanics he used last year. That over the top stuff looks like crap to me. And he also doesn't throw hard. Cotts came from Oakland. He has some power and I think that's a reason why he's suceeded. Guys who "know how to pitch" and don't have the power stuff usually are the guys who heavily depend on their defense. Over the course of their careers, they usually are inferior to the power guys. Think about it. The only top 5 pitcher ever that wasn't a power pitcher is Greg Maddux and you see how much he's struggled in the playoffs. I've been saying it for awhile. You need guys who have power. Guys who don't have it usually have no room for error, or else they get rocked. Case in point Mark Buehrle. I'm saving this post and bringing it back up when BMac dominates. Hopefully, you'll be ready to eat some serious crow.

QUOTE(shoota @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 01:22 AM) It's better to trade for a player when his value is low. Yet in this deal, the Sox would be giving up McCarthy, which means that we would be drastically overpaying, assuming you think that Priors value is 'low'.
-
QUOTE(shoota @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 01:03 AM) I'd gladly trade McCarthy and Montero for Prior and Williamson/Eyre/Dempster. Why do you want to ruin McCarthy's arm/career by sending him over to Dusty? Thats just downright mean, he seems like a great guy.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 01:03 AM) The greatest thing The Dugout has ever put out there, mainly because they agree with me. Up yours Sleepy. That's one of the better ones

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 01:06 AM) If it doesn't kill you, or if you find the time to do it(either/or), what is his OBP during that time period? If it's .330, he's been productive as hell by saving runs defensively and getting on a 3rd of the time. If it's more than that, he's looking even better. Since June 11th, he's got a .264/.339/.434 line.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 12:20 AM) Because the value of each of those pitchers is roughly similar... Obviously. Garland is a star (dare I say 'stud'?), one of the best young pitchers in the game, and a future ace of the rotation! McCarthy.. well.. he's just some scrub reliever that lets up homeruns.

This team will have a better regular season record than last year'

QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 06:09 PM) I'll take that action No way this team ever has a 7 game losing streak mid-august either How much? It's not as easy as people think to win 100 games, especially with the quality of teams and talent in the AL. -
QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 05:40 PM) With the mediocre pitching we have had this year, we can't afford a CFer who bats below .240 let alone in the .100's. That's so true. I mean hell, that best offense in the league that the Sox has? Its being KILLED by having BA in center.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 05:13 PM) Probably better off you didn't see the game. Dreadful performances by our pitchers, manager, clutch hitting. From the stats, it looks like the pitching blew it. The offense appears to have gotten the job done. Any word on why Garland was in as a relief pitcher?
-
Bah, just got home from work to see a crappy score Garland pitched in relief? Huh?

Yankee fans.
