  1. The Yankee announcers are pimping Ozzie. Its nice
  2. QUOTE(keninem @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 07:30 PM) They probably already do..leave it to NY fans..no other fans would DARE complain about having ARod at third but them If he was being paid $25 million to put up the numbers he is this year in Chicago, I'd complain just as loud.
  3. Even though I should be blacked out, MLB.tv is working fine for me. I'm amazed
  4. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 04:59 PM) Hell I'm always looking for 1280X800 Wallpapers. ^^
  5. QUOTE(soxunited @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 06:20 PM) LF Ozuna, Pablo 2B Iguchi, Tadahito DH Thome, Jim 1B Konerko, Paul RF Dye, Jermaine 3B Crede, Joe SS Uribe, Juan C Widger, Chris CF Anderson, Brian Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
  6. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 06:15 PM) I was under the impression that arbitration eligible players' salaries cannot more than double. Therefore, Crede will get a shade under six, that is if his contract doubles. Since his contract this year wasn't through arbitration, I don't think that applies. I could be wrong though.
  7. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 10:55 AM) This Garcia/Vaz to the Mets definitely seems to have some validity to it. Its on MLBTradeRumors. Consider it dead. That being said, I'd love this sort of deal
  8. QUOTE(POPPY_HIDALGO @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 09:31 AM) I also predict Anderson will be batting close to .280 by seasons end. But why stop there? I don't see how Jim Thome won't be hitting .400 by the end of the year, and I predict he'll be making a run on Barry Bonds single season HR record. He might even challenge Hank Aaron's career mark by the end of this year, he's that good. Lets put it this way. To have an average of .280 at the end of the year, Brian Anderson would have to hit .359 (if he gets 380 AB that he's on pace for right now) for the rest of the year. It isn't happening.
  9. Remember that game last year vs Randy Johnson? Yea, lets do that again
  10. QUOTE(loltrain @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 10:35 PM) it appears to me that the guy is saying Jenks in fact, is not a racist or anything else horrible. Thats what I thought too when I first read it (and still think now). I feel as if I missed the part where he says that Jenks is a racist etc.
  11. Now then, anyone know how to download that flash to ones computer? They would get a lot of love too
  12. QUOTE(SnB @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 09:28 PM) Look what i found http://youtube.com/watch?v=Hma9eEqouK8&search=White%20Sox this is the new version I want to make man-love to you.

    Vazquez

    QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 05:15 PM) If they were willing to consider Milledge, I'd do it in a second. But they've also been unwilling to consider Milledge for Zito. Zito isn't hispanic though, Vazquez is. Vazquez for Milledge.. DO IT (in reality, this deal would never happen sadly )
  14. QUOTE(T R U @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 09:12 PM) he is my favorite player on the Astros not named Wily Tavares Man, how can you like him? He's worse than how Podsednik is viewed on this board, and thats saying something.
  15. Holy crap. So this is what Bowden is like when he doesn't drink... actually smart. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 03:46 PM) Who are the "Others"? Austin Kearns, Felipe Lopez and Ryan Wagner have been traded from the Reds to the Nationals for the Gary Majewski, Bill Bray, Royce Clayton, Brendan Harris and Daryl Thompson.
  16. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 11:29 PM) From Some Dude on WSI: I'm pretty sure that one of the panels (the one with the picture of Tomko) is about him giving $100 to anyone that hit a HR off of him in a spring training game (I believe Borchard was the only one to do it).
  17. QUOTE(Reddy @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 04:42 PM) he becomes a FA after this year? if so then WHY are we talking about trading for him...? why not just sign him...? He doesn't. He has a player option, while the team has a team option. He'll be back in Philly next year.
  18. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 03:45 PM) Hits still move runners along more than walks, hits drive in more runners if people are on base, etc. Just because he's a leadoff man doesn't mean his hits are totally useless. Yep, thats very true. When it comes down to it, which is more important for a leadoff man to do, get on base for the middle of the order, or move runners along on the bases? If you had a choice between someone who hit .250 with a .400 OBP and someone who hit .300 with a .330 OBP, who would you take to leadoff?
  19. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 03:34 PM) In the end, I want my leadoff hitter to get on base consistently and hit for a high average. What is the best measure of this? If it's not OBP + AVG, then hit me up with an alternate method. Again, we're strictly talking leadoff hitters, and we're not taking about a method that takes steals into account. Why do you care about the high average? As long as you get on base, which is the key job of a leadoff man, who cares if you are hitting .300 or .250?
  20. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 03:00 PM) SLG is influenced by batting average though, correct? Since batting average is just how many hits you get, of course SLG is influenced by it, but SLG doesn't focus on just hits, as BA does. SLG focuses on how many bases you get. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 03:00 PM) Theoretically, the higher the average, the higher the slugging percentage. Your total bases are bound to go up if you're hitting at a higher average, correct? Not necessarily. For example, Derek Jeter is hitting .345 and has a slugging percentage of .462, while Manny Ramirez is hitting .306 while slugging .615. David Eckstein is hitting .311 with a SLG of .363, while Jose Lopez is hitting .280 with a SLG of .454. If you look at it, BA and SLG aren't really as related as you paint them to be.
  21. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 02:57 PM) So basically, when he gets a single, but then steals second, you adjust his slugging % to account for a double rather than a single. I suppose you could then go back and account for his caught stealings by subtracting it from his slugging %. This is mentioned (and done for a few players) in an article I linked to earlier in this thread. Its an interesting thought. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/writ...eyes/index.html
  22. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 02:52 PM) Slugging is incorporated into OBP, correct? No. SLG involves total bases, something that OBP has nothing to do with.
  23. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 02:44 PM) I compiled some numbers. Jeter doesn't qualify for this, but he would rank #2 in the MLB if he was leading off. Sorry to burst your bubble, but as its been pointed out, BA + OBP means nothing. OBP includes batting average in it, which defeats the purpose. Plus, what does BA have to do with being a good leadoff hitter? As long as you get on base, who cares if you have a high average?
