QUOTE (kapzk @ Apr 15, 2011 -> 08:47 PM) Please tell me your kidding right? When was the last time Dunn led his team to the playoffs, let alone a World Series title? Don't worry, I'll wait.

QUOTE (kapzk @ Apr 15, 2011 -> 08:40 PM) Sorry just frustrated me how some1 didnt know the significance of #42 is baseball History. Mariano Rivera? I mean, I know he's pretty good, but why would people wear that number for him? Oh, is it because he's a Yankee? f***ing Yankees... -
Personally, I'm blaming Adam Dunn for this. His cavalier attitude defensively has clearly impacted Alexei and Morel on the left side of the infield. Maybe if we had a true leader at DH, he'd be more concerned with pumping up his teammates to pick it up on the defensive end. I think this is pretty well documented in his team's struggles throughout his career.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Apr 15, 2011 -> 08:35 PM) He's 32...and a DH. I wouldn't say he's at the tail end of his career. And I really don't think he's mailing it in. Really? Look at Garret Anderson. Dude had a great start to his career, WAS AN MVP CANDIDATE, led his team to a World Series title, and once he turned 32, his offense disappeared. Dunn isn't half the player that Anderson was, I'm afraid to see what happens in the next four years.

QUOTE (kapzk @ Apr 15, 2011 -> 08:33 PM) Someone's been living under a rock ... just like how one questions Dunn's talent Hey, personal attacks are against the rules of Soxtalk. Don't make me call a mod on you. -
QUOTE (Knackattack @ Apr 15, 2011 -> 08:28 PM) LOL so Dunn's mere presence is a harbinger of doom for any team? Give me a break, we needed OBP and left handed power that year and holy s***, Dunn provides that. Who gives a f*** if he strikes out sometimes, you'll be happy when it's a three run homer lol. 40HR/100 RBI + high walks and K's? I'll take it. Just like Jim Thome, right? The White Sox were WORLD CHAMPIONS, then they traded for him and we promptly missed the playoffs in the next two years. There's a reason he's never won a ring.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Apr 15, 2011 -> 08:28 PM) those teams also just happened to be the reds, nationals and diamondbacks. this, ladies and gentlemen, is a prime example of a strawman argument, for those interested in the finer points of debate. It's an AWFULLY big coincidence that the Reds went from the NL Central's whipping boy to a 90 win team just two years after he was traded. They've improved every year since getting rid of him, something that we should hope for in the next couple of seasons.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Apr 15, 2011 -> 08:23 PM) HE'S PLAYED 7 GAMES. jesus people. this is awful. He's played over 1400 in his career and has never been on a team that won more than 80 games.

Hey, when did Beckham change his number to 42? -
I don't understand how you can disagree with me. Have you seen what Dunn's doing? Are you watching these games? We just had a prime situation with two runners in scoring position, and rather than do anything productive, he struck out. Rather than try to bloop a single over the infielders heads, Dunn was too concerned with getting his stats and hitting a dinger, which resulted in yet another strikeout. This is just unacceptable behavior, and is something that you'd never see out of our team's core (Pierzynski, Konerko). They understand what situational hitting is, something that Dunn hasn't been able to grasp in his 11 year career.

QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 15, 2011 -> 07:45 PM) He's 32 and it takes up to 6 weeks to recover from an appendix removal. He'll be fine. He's 32 and we just gave him a 4 year deal. We need to cut him loose before his only positive trait (hitting dingers) disappears.

I mean, I know it's still early, but this is the type of production we're getting out of the DH spot? Sure it's better than Mark Kotsay, but that's not saying much. We simply aren't going to win with this guy getting significant at-bats. Yeah, he'll hit some dingers, but his speed and inability to put the bat on the ball is going to do more damage than good. How are we supposed to score runs with him clogging the bases and striking out with runners on? That just isn't going to do our team any good. I'll admit, I was excited when we first signed him. I thought, "Hell yeah! Another Paul Konerko!" But it's clear that Dunn is just a National League player who can't lead his team to any success. Ever wonder why he hasn't played in the playoffs? He clearly doesn't have what it takes to bring his team over the hump. I know this isn't something people want to hear right now, but the sooner we admit the truth, the better the team will be in the future.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 14, 2011 -> 12:28 AM) There really hasn't ever been a player in the NBA like Derrick Rose. He gets to the rim at absolute will and if he's getting calls, he simply cannot be stopped. His ability to control and contort his body in midair is unmatched by anyone who has ever played in this league. You obviously never watched Allen Iverson in his prime.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 11, 2011 -> 09:49 PM) Is something messed up with the soxtalk link? I don't really know. I don't think I've ever used it, but it sounds like some people have been having some issues while others have been fine.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 11, 2011 -> 11:26 PM) Felix, at this point it really seems like you're trolling. No one is going Aldridge > Love out of nowhere, even though I know you will be (rightfully) furious if Aldridge gets the MIP. That was a pretty trolly post, without a doubt. I do seriously think that you can make a legit argument for Paul over Rose however, as chw42 pointed out above. I'm not going to bother doing so, as the responses will be the same as all the others that have been in this thread (eye test, I STUCK WITH THE TEAM WHEN THEY WERE BAD SO I CAN MAKE WHATEVER ARGUMENT I WANT AND BE RIGHT BECAUSE I'M A THE BEST FAN EVER AND YOU AREN'T, team is the best in the league, etc.). And Aldridge certainly has a very real case for MIP, as do a lot of other players (including Rose, although he won't get it). I wouldn't be too pissed either way, to be honest.

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Apr 11, 2011 -> 10:07 AM) I was just bored and flipping through channels on Friday- have the Foo Fighters really gotten that big that they warrant selling out Wembley? Is Monkey Wrench such a fantastic song that it justifies a drawn out 6 minute finale? They seem like such a "meh" band to me. I'll admit I haven't given them an extended listen, but thats only because what I've heard is so vanilla. This is basically how I feel. I really want to like them, as I love Dave Grohl, but every time I try I just can't do it. Self-titled is a solid album.. outside of that, I'm just never really been impressed. And I've given them a fair shot, I just find them fairly boring.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 11, 2011 -> 10:19 PM) Probably depends on the situation. In Miami? Hell yes. On this Bulls team, no way. Derrick Rose carries the entire load for the offense. He is involved in almost 60% of the points the Bulls score, one way or another. Chris Paul isn't exactly known for his scoring, especially in the past two years. If you ask him to take a higher volume of shots, his efficiency will most likely go down. On top of that, the Bulls are probably a below average shooting team if you take Rose' ability to create open perimeter shots with his ability to break down the defense, something Chris Paul is not known to do (only 16% of his points are scored inside). Rose is perfect for the Bulls' current situation, whereas Chris Paul is much better when you have better shooters around him who don't need him to create open shots for them. Hence, Miami. LeBron, as good of a ball-handler as he is for his size, is a turn-over machine. If you put Paul on that team, not only do they become much more organized, they also probably get more production from their big men with his passing. The two guys are different types of point guards. If you're talking about point guard ability alone, Paul wins in a landslide. But Rose is the better scorer (maybe not as efficient as Paul, but if Paul took 21 shots a game, I don't think his TS% will be 58%). Yeah, without a doubt. In all reality, it's a pretty close draw between the two of them given their drastically different styles. If I'm building a team from scratch, I'd probably take Paul, especially given how much he's carried the Hornets year in and out. His supporting cast is not pretty at all.

Chris Paul > Derrick Rose Have at it.

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 11, 2011 -> 04:40 PM) I think his whole section on memphis is very spot on. Frankly if the bulls had to play memphis in the first round I'd be very very worried. They played us hard. This obviously means very little, but Memphis has dropkicked the s*** out of Minnesota harder than any other team in the league this year. It's incredibly hilarious/depressing to see where they are compared to the Wolves, considering where each franchise is coming from. Definitely hopping on that bandwagon come playoffs, if only because Shane Battier is the man.
