    Torii Hunter

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 01:15 PM) I guess it would be a golden rule moment for you... If you are going to demand "proof" from others, it probably is a good idea for you to live up to the same standards. The only reason any of exchange is happening is because a few of us want to know why we should "book it" that Hunter will be signed by Monday when all indications are the opposite. All I want, and I'm sure all that Fathom really wants, is some explanation for that position.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 09:51 AM) you are wrong Wow. Anything you are going to point to? Or are you basing this on the report that was incorrect?

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 09:38 AM) If by some time you mean by next Monday you would be correct. They will announce the Torii Hunter signing Monday or sooner. Book it. I think Hunter will wait longer to see what the Sox do. I wouldn't be shocked if you were right, but I doubt it'll happen that quickly. I think there will be another move before Hunter signs.

Here's just a blurb from a Chicago Sports article. I think the Hunter deal will take some time. Hunter is going to want to see which team will be truly competitive next season. It might take another move or two before he is ready to sign. The question is, how long will he wait? I'm sure Williams wants this done before the Winter Meetings and he's obviously working fast.

  6. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 18, 2007 -> 12:24 PM) So if this sort of thing is against the rules of the MLBPA agreement... but if the player himself is actually OK with it, and so are the owners (the two parties protected by the agreement)... could Boras have any kind of grounds against the Yankees? Could he sue them? I wonder if the agent is considered a protectant of the agreement contract, or just an interested party. In any case, I love that Boras got left out. Boras will probably only have a claim against A-Rod if there was a breach of contract for exclusive rights to representation, as Max said. My guess is that Boras will handle the actual drawing of the contract and will be paid for his services.

  8. QUOTE(juddling @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 04:43 PM) From the story.. If the absent homeowner tells police that he asked his neighbor to watch over his property, that could play in his favor, LaFon said. "If the homeowner comes out and says, 'My neighbor had a greater right of possession than the people trying to break in,' that could put him (the gunman) in an ownership role," LaFon said. The Texas Penal Code says a person can use force or deadly force to defend someone else's property if he reasonably believes he has a legal duty to do so or the property owner had requested his protection. If i was that neighbor, i'd be telling the police "Sure i asked him to keep an eye on the place". even if I didn't. Even in Texas there needs to be some necessity for deadly force. Yes, the law there is looser than most states, but the shooter was not in his neighbor's house. If he was inside the house, then, yes, he might use deadly force In reality he had no need for self defense. He had safe haven in his home, he called the police, and the robbers were not coming at him or his home. And they were not walking onto his property. I can't believe this would be self defense, even in Texas.
  9. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 04:24 PM) They have to. About 5 players have enormous backloaded contracts that increase every year. I forgot about that. When I heard the report I assumed they planned on taking on more salary, as in more players. I guess they'll be increasing payroll whether they sign more guys or not.
  10. The Score reported yesterday that they were raising payroll to $115 or $120 million.
  11. QUOTE(Soxfest @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 01:13 AM) I hope the karma BOR-ASS has spread around is finally coming back to bite him in the nuts, his arrogance is beyond over the top every GM from now on should say ONLY way we talk to his clients is without Scott Boras in the room. Yankees have set the new way to deal with him! As I posted earlier, that's a violation of the CBA. I'm not sure what level of involvement is needed.
  12. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 11:14 AM) Yes. I doubt Rodriguez would talk to them himself but it's happened before, with Andruw Jones and the Braves. Maybe Rodriguez felt that Boras overstepped his boundaries at some point? I don't know. What's odd about this is that it's only November. Furthermore, A-Rod could fire Boras if he felt he wasn't doing a good job or sullied his reputation, as the article suggests. I think the Yankees are right to be cautious that this could be a trap to get them back into negotiations. I'll throw another possibility out there. Boras will only take what he considers to be a below market deal from the Yankees because it can easily be spun as A-Rod taking less money to stay in NY and allow them to remain competitive. Meanwhile it doesn't hurt Boras' reputation as a hard-ass that can get any deal he wants.

    Anti-Meat

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Nov 11, 2007 -> 04:43 PM) Sqwert, there is physical evidence that early humans hunted animals and ate them. I'm probably a little late to the party here, but I recall watching The Rise of Man on the History Channel where they said that apes began eating more meat as their brains grew. That line of evolution became humans. Basically, the meat was required to give more protein and calories to a bigger brain that require much more energy. Not only did early man eat meat, it was essential to our evolution.
  14. QUOTE(Chombi and the Fungi @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 02:05 AM) Didnt see this posted.... http://www.palmbeachpost.com/marlins/conte...=7&cxcat=46 Lil blip from our favorite mlbtraderumors.com - they sure do keep us occupied. Can't ask for more in an offseason. If they are getting that kind of package from the Dodgers...We do not stand a chance. Where are the people who thought it'd take 3 guys from our pathetic farm? The point of that article, as I see it, is to say what the Marlins want. Not what the Dodgers are packaging. On top of that it's saying what a lot of people here are saying, in that the Marlins are asking for too much. Nobody thinks our system can compete in the Dodgers, etc.
  15. QUOTE(spiderman @ Nov 11, 2007 -> 02:31 PM) Looks to me like just more speculation. Basically, the White Sox could get in on this if 5 other teams aren't interested. I agree with this. But after reading the article it feels like other teams are not as hot to make a deal as the Marlins expected, and the Sox might now have their foot in the door rather than just being an after thought.
  16. QUOTE(knightni @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 11:11 PM) Interesting site. http://mlbcontracts.blogspot.com/2005/01/c...-white-sox.html I'm going to give props to the Firefox extension that has good sites like that one. Highly recommend the extension.
  17. Score reports that this deal is off because Yankees have told Damon that he will be a Yankee next year.

    Dog owners..

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Oct 28, 2007 -> 10:34 AM) the strange thing is that she doesnt chew, she just licks it. The vet said the problem with it is that underneath the wound is a layer of infection that wont clear unless the dog stops chewing/licking. I guess I have been trying to avoid the anti-biting aids for a while because I havent heard many good things about them. I assume you are referring to the stuff like the sour apple spray and gel. My dog has major problems with hot spots, which are more like allergies. We give him benadryl to stop the itch. But no matter what the problem is, the only real way to ensure that the dog stops licking to put one of those cones on his head. That's the only thing that prevented my dog from eating his paws off. Sprays and powders can work but the dog is usually back at it before the wound can heal. The dog gets used to it, but they don't like it much at first.
  19. The Chicago White Stockings are actually the Cubs.
  20. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Oct 18, 2007 -> 05:59 PM) That's why I've always liked you. You're cool, unlike these other cheap, lying, no-good, rotten, four-flushing, low-life, snake-licking, dirt-eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood-sucking, dog-kissing, brainless, dickless, hopeless, heartless, fat-ass, bug-eyed, stiff-legged, spotty-lipped, worm-headed sacks of monkey s***. Hallelujah, and holy s***! Where's the Tylenol?! I'm just a day late.
  21. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Oct 18, 2007 -> 12:48 PM) No love for my Christmas Vacation reference? I hate you all. actually it made me laugh out loud in class. This is my first post ever from a class. Yay Con Law
