Forgoing discipline. I knew it.

QUOTE(SpringfieldFan @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 12:57 PM) You know, as I think about the potential fallout from all this, I wonder if the owners could legally revoke the contracts of some of their players on the grounds the players misreprented themselves and their value, especially given how it will drop in the wake of these events. Also, can we fans sue for ticket reimbursement because we were never getting the product we thought we were getting. Thoughts? SFF You aren't getting anything simply because there won't be enough evidence to show that the owners knew enough to defraud the public. Furthermore, this is entertainment, and going to the park itself is entertainment whether the team is a bunch of cheaters or not. I doubt there is any language in the contracts because I can't imagine the player's union would allow it.

QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 12:43 PM) This is good for the game in the long run. Get this info out. Allow the players to choose to make their drug test results known to prove their innocence and remove doubt. Out everybody. Give them hell. Forgive them because many of us would have done the same to make 10 million a year or play in the major leagues at all for that matter. Move on with a clean game. Most people have to do this to make minimum wage. BTW, the Score had on a law professor from Northwestern who was already questioning the sources and "evidence." I don't know if he was being totally serious, but it made me think about what these players are going to say when questioned.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 12:30 PM) Not so fast. A previous report by WNBC naming many prominent MLB players, including Albert Pujols and Roger Clemens, has been disputed by an MLB official who has seen the Mitchell Report. Rumors have been flying all morning about the potential names that will be released, though nothing has been verified. While WNBC's reported list seems plausible, it is likely we won't know the true identities until the report is officially released According to the Score, WNBC is standing by their sources. All I hope is that no big names magically get redacted.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 12:24 PM) I'd still sign Prior right now. His value has nowhere to go but up. He might not have any calves.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 12:16 PM) I really did have a feeling the Sox would come out of this looking ok, if for no other reason than the fact that even a juicer would be scared to shoot up around Frank. It'd have been really nice if our WS team had been 100% clean though. I wouldn't have been surprised if a couple bullpen guys were on there. There were some stellar performances that year.

QUOTE(mreye @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 11:05 AM) My wife said she didn't want anymore kids. I did. What was I supposed to do? Kill a kitten. Or make yourself blind. So to speak.

The Jamie Kotsay picture was an interesting choice.

Are we to assume he was offered arbitration? There's nothing on any transaction trackers that I've seen.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 09:47 PM) The amount of money being thrown at these Japanese players in the last 2 years, considering their performance, is absolutely extraordinary. Considering what else is out there I'm not surprised. The Japanese players could also add a little bit of extra revenue as well. Probably more worth it financially than getting Silva.

What do people want him to say? Seriously. If he said, "Well, things haven't gone well and we will have trouble competing" many here would still be saying he should be fired because he's giving up. If people want to b**** about his moves then fine, but complaining about what he says to the media is ridiculous.

QUOTE(AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 03:52 PM) God we suck. Is there anyone else left out there that we can miss on? How bout we wait to see the numbers before more complaining? Meanwhile, I'm suprised the Sox didn't up their bid. Not that Rowand is what this team needs.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Dec 10, 2007 -> 06:20 PM) im pretty sure its teh same kid, he played ball at stagg hs...im suprised he hit a slam, he wasnt much of a bopper...skinny middle IF type (2b or maybe CF).....he started at stagg but wasnt anything great...batted 9th i think....i think he struck out in the 7th to lose to sandburg in the sectional final while down 1 if it makes you feel any better Wait a minute. I went to Stagg and I knew a Morgan Spurlock that, I think, went to Stagg. I was a year older than him. I don't remember if he played baseball but he seems to fit the description.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 10, 2007 -> 08:17 AM) Gonzalez totally snaked every quote in his "article" from Cowley's blog last week. They are all in the Miguel Cabrera thread I believe. I was going to say that we already have a thread on this, but that's where it's from.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 8, 2007 -> 07:16 PM) I'm taking a History class on line and the Professor basically created the Filibuster and set us loose. They didn't see it coming. 100/100 for Tex. The Professor asked if I had formal debate training, I explained I got my butt handed to me on soxtalk talking Bush, so this was easy. I basically wound up with both pro and con Bush positions and used some of the stuff from out threads. Sweet Plagiarism.

Figgins available if Angels acquire 3b man
G&T replied to beck72's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
So they wouldn't want a package with Crede involved? -
And there's also this... I doubtful that he reasonably believed anything. I think Texas law disagrees with you.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Dec 8, 2007 -> 07:06 PM) The law clearly states that you CAN defend your neighbors property. only if you have a greater ownership right to it than the robber. Greater rights don't just magically happen. There has to be some intent from the property owner that gives him that right, and it doesn't seem like he had that at all.

"Update" The article is a couple weeks old, but you can see what the lawyer is saying.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 8, 2007 -> 02:02 PM) Part of me thinks this is exactly what baseball deserves...having every person who has a power surge accused of steroid abuse. I will say this, I wouldn't want to pick him up before the Mitchell report comes out, but I'd say that about almost anyone. They do deserve it. It's an obvious explanation and plenty of players have done it. Every fan and team should be questioning these players with this amount of money or talent on the line.

I'm not saying that Roberts wasn't (or isn't) using roids but 8 of the 18 hr's in 2005 were in April. Those numbers look a bit more consistent if you take out that month. I'm sure teams are skeptical though, especially at the price the Orioles will most likely ask for.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 05:23 PM) Why are the Sox under pressure to rebuild right now? They can easily start to trade guys during the season if they really want to rebuild... technically they aren't, but the best trade chip is Konerko and the best destination were the Angels and Dodgers because both were looking for bats. Now they each signed the bat they want. So the pressure was getting while the getting was good.
-
QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 05:14 PM) And hunter is a negative. Im sorry but half of you are claiming you want to rebuild, and Hunter would have made that so much harder. Spending money just to spend is not good business. Well some people may have jumped on the rebuild bandwagon after losing out on Hunter. If Hunter was too expensive, fine. But it does the team no good to sit in limbo either. Can't refuse to sign free agents and refuse to rebuild.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 05:13 PM) 39-33, and still finished 24 games out. Notice that Detroit now has 3 lefties in the rotation. How's that gonna go for us?

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 12:23 AM) Yeah, that got old pretty fast for me. I think another part of that is that you drink what is available at first unless you go the fake ID route. By senior year I definitely stopped drinking s*** like Ron Rico, Smirnoff, and basically any cheap light beer. I still drank cheap light beer my senior year. I couldn't handle vodka anymore because it made me sick, so the cheap beer went down easy. Basically tastes like water. These days I like better beer.
