  1. Oof. This take. #1: Look at the career of Mazara #2: Look at the career of Moncada #3: Moncada is under contract until 2024, and if you tried to sell him off 29 other teams would be thrilled to take him. #4: Mazara is in arbitration and is probably is line for a raise, in an off season where you are about to see the worst free agent market on history. #5: Even if you project 2021 Mazara to come in at career norms, you will still be able to buy similar production expectations much cheater on the free agent market. #6: Even if you don't sign a RF, there is an expectation that an Engel/Leury RF could give you at least a neutral WAR next year. In 60 games this year we got 1 WAR combined out of the 2, playing 52 of those games.
  2. As I thought. You can't answer to any of it.
  3. When it the last time you saw someone get a paycut through arbitration?
  4. I see no doubts that we go after a top half starting pitcher. Maybe it will be Bauer, maybe it won't. But I don't see a scenario where we go into 21 with only 2 trustworthy pitchers. I think we pick up a top half guy, and then let the last four guys (Cease, Dunning, Kopech, Lopez) battle it out for the last two slots. My complete guess is that Dunning and ReyLo win the spring battles, while Cease and Kopech open in Charlotte as starters (if there is a MiLB season)
  5. I think he is a smart enough business man to know that if he was really going to sell before he died, you will never see a better tax situation than he saw the last four years. He's in this until death at this stage, I really believe.
  6. I appreciate the idea, and hopefully it happens, but this method costs A LOT more.
  7. But this trend has even hit mediocre hitters with extreme tendencies. Mazara is a great example. The kids power was completely gone last year, he was hitting for garbage, and the defense is giving you a hit. Get on and turn over the line up. He finally swung the other way a couple of times late in the season, which is about as good.
  8. The guy who thinks this isn't a big deal has 11 of the 44 posts in this thread.
  9. You'd probably lose. You non-tender Mazara and try and sign him for a fraction of this former salary as a free agent, that is if you are even interested.
  10. The entire structure of professional sports have gone in the same direction, as has television, yet you are so fixated on Jerry that you are trying to blame him for ruining baseball. You do realize that this World Series has been on free tv, right? Have you seen NBA playoffs ratings this century? Have you seen the multi decade downward trend? Did you see that this years finals set a new all time low ratings record? Did you ever stop and think that there might be some once in a century externality occurring that could be responsible for the record lows? Did Jerry cause that? Have you seen television ratings in general for this century? Do you realize that not a single television show this century ranks in the top rated shows of all time because of the splintering of television options. Is Jerry responsible for that too? Not sure if Jerry slept with your wife or what, but you are completely irrationally blaming this guy for things that are light years beyond him. Frankly its creepy the level of anger and obsession you have for this guy.
  11. TLRs age isn't even as big of a deal as the fact that things have changed A LOT since he was last in the dugout. Hell he could lose half the team on day 1 with his anthem stance.
  12. I know this has come up in relation to how Hinch should have handled himself, but
  13. I am racking my brain, but I can't ever recall two players from the same team getting a nomination for the same position. That is wild.
  14. This is a nice after result of how much the Sox improved in team defense.
  15. Again, you are just grasping at anything here. Tell me what TLR has to do with TV contracts in 2020? Its like you just want to be bitter and will use whatever you can to do it.
  16. I am in this camp. Leury will give you league average production and a plus glove. Engel will give you a gold glove and a crappy bat. That is enough to be a plus contribution.
  17. Because the NBA is doing awful with a similar model. And then to attempt to credit this to a single ownership group in all of pro sports? Laughable. I mean these arguments might have been valid in 1989, but in 2020? The world has changed. Come join us. Let go of those feelings.
  18. It is 2020. Do you really believe that if it wasn’t for JR that both Chicago teams would not be on cable? That somehow the monetization of television would have accelerated without Chicago? Also none of this changes that MLB makes billions on their TV contracts and the World Series is the anchor of that coverage... and that also has nothing to do with Jerry.
