Even at their peak of 05 to say 08, this franchise was never outside of the middle tier of revenue in MLB. The Sox are the definition of mid market according to the numbers.

I hate him as a Plan B unless we are either given him for nothing to try to flip at the trade deadline, or he comes with a prospect to offset some cost.

I said from Day 1 this winter that we either need to land whales or stay the course. Past MM and BH, I hate the idea of guys who either aren't temp fillers, or guy who won't be on our next playoff team. Pollack and Moostaskis would be mistakes.

I know it won't satisfy the torch wielding mobs, but in reality, the Sox always had an uphill battle for these guys. Hahn saying they would be aggressive in chasing them isn't the same thing as saying they would sign them. He even knew that which is why he talked about if they couldn't they could always stay on the former course. In these two specific cases, the fact that both players had a place they really wanted to go, and the fact that the Sox were in rebuilding mode was always going to be working against them. Most people wanted the rebuild, but this was the downside of starting that cycle.

The Cubs have a couple of nice lefty arms, a top notch catcher, and some nice middle infielders in their top 10 prospects, any of whom would be nice adds.

Put in context together these things all point in the same direction.

If I were offered a top end prospect, Almora, and Shwarber to take on most of Heyward, I would do it happily.

Yet two new White Sox rumors popped up today.

If he wants the Yankees to offer more, the rumor would be that he was signing with someone other than the Yankees to get to offer more. If they are winning there is no reason for them to keep bidding.

He benefits more by keeping teams engaged, not losing them.

Which is why if it were false, MM would have all the reasons in the world to deny. If it is over, it doesn't matter and no need to care.

You use the team you don't want to go to, not the one you want to go to. If the process was still open, this would have been shot down hours ago. It would not be a state secret.

Hopefully it costs them a lot. I said it before, but all of the teams that can really use Harper, the Cubs gain the least marginal gain from him. I would love to see them sink a record contract in to him, as it means the chances they improve the back of the pen like they really need go down.
