Be interested to learn more about him. Looks like he missed 2024, and came back WAY better than he had been in the past. Dude struggled in his previous years at AAA, and then came back stronger, and was better in MLB than he ever was in AAA. Weird.

I think there is a difference between maybe a starter, and an established starter, and that's why he doesn't get moved. That's where the "selling low" idea comes in. It is shorthand for the difference.

I think "low" is accurate as guys who are still unproven and closer to the "prospect" bucket are valued lower than guys who are "proven" at the major league level. It's why a deal like the deal that brought Teel to the White Sox happen. Even though potential is high, it isn't realized yet, so those guys are valued at a fraction of what they would be if they were major league proven. If you sell him and he turns into a full time starter, you almost certainly sold "low" with how he would be valued as of today.

That's just depressing.

Looking at this from an acquiring team standpoint, are you willing to pay a starting catcher price for a guy who has his level of experience and success? If teams are not, I am not sure why Getz would be willing to deal him at a price of a part timer, or unproven player.

You also have to get someone to offer you a full time starter for him. I am guessing that is what they are waiting for.

4 years is right on the edge of where this team might actually be competitive again, so unless a deal is a steal, it seems weird to waste those first couple/few years at that high of a salary for a team having a cash crunch.

Yeah, this. There shouldn't be a soul surprised at this. Think 2027 or 2028, not now.

In full disclosure, O'Hearn is a place filler. He's a guy who you sign to do a job if you have nobody better to do it. Since the Sox don't seem interested in trying to their offday catchers at 1B, it's a move that plugs a hole and fills some ABs. You could definitely do worse, but I also can't see presenting this as some sort of a big victory either.

This is more of my line of thinking. I think the hype over a few of these guys is way overblown. While they have the tools to destroy the minors, the 2nd tier guys lack that extra something which major leaguers usually feature. The guys who seem to get picked in Rule 5 have more raw stuff with less refinement, versus tons of refinement without raw stuff.

Which is exactly why Jerry wants a stadium in a location where he can draw more impulse fans, because the Sox are a very bandwagon fanbase. They take pride in it.

The idea that believing everything you are told somehow makes you better is laughable, at best. And if you read anything at all I wrote, different isn't better. We haven't seen better yet. And finally, the man primarily responsible for destroying the last rebuild is still in charge, and attitude seems like the someone he has had since 1980.

Which is quite literally Example #1 of why I believe things AREN'T different. The same guy is at the top, ready to shove his nose in and blow something up because he doesn't believe in whatever it is. The "Royals" thing has become sort of a meme, but so has the whole "different" thing. Getting kicked in the nuts instead of the knee is definitely different, but that doesn't make it better, and definitely not good. I want to see better, not different. We still have a loooooong way to go for that.

And neither does the "everything is different now!" crowd get to magic wand away the last few years mean that things are actually better, until some actual results show it.

That's wild. The first two rounds are free in Indiana and anyone can also broadcast just by asking. Heck we are calling our Regional Championship tonight. The exclusivity stuff kicks in next week with Semi-State (final four for each class) and then with State.

Them not paying money to the state isn't that big of an expense. A decent portion of modern stadiums are owned by the owners, so no reason to lease. The rest are primarily public owned, and the leases don't seem to be THAT big. Single mid digit millions seems to be an normal number, though I see the LA football stadium is getting a whopping dollar a year from each tenant, so Jerry's deal isn't THAT great anymore.

This. I either want a legitimate starting OF, or a really good prospect package. Starting catchers at minimum wage are not cheap, and neither should Quero be.
