7/17 Games
QUOTE (FLsouthsider @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 08:41 PM) Is it possible that Courtney Hawkins learned how to hit in the last week? More likely is that he is finally healthy.

Pitching Question
QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 08:51 AM) I like the attempt but I highly doubt CWS is able to move any of those first 4 That doesn't change the fact they want to and they need to give scouts every chance to see them if they want to.

How do you rate the rebuild so far?
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 02:55 PM) I feel like the easy part of the rebuild is over for Hahn and now comes the challenge. Any GM could have gotten valuable prospects for Sale/Q/Eaton. Now it's about drafting well, etc. If it were really that easy, everyone would be doing it.

Q traded to Cubs/Jimenez, Cease ++ to Sox
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 04:55 PM) I can guarantee that whatever else was on the table, as a whole, was not as good as the Cubs offer. How do I know? Because the Sox chose the Cubs offer. Totally this. If there was ANY other offer that was even equal to what the Cubs did, the Sox would have done it. All things being equal they would have much rather dealt with just about anyone else out there. If the Braves had offered an equal or better deal, they would have taken it. The rest is just worthless Cubs rhetoric.

Q traded to Cubs/Jimenez, Cease ++ to Sox
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 06:00 PM) Albiese plus Acuna would have made the Braves offer far and away better than the Cubs Ablies plus a bottom top 100 guy puts the Braves offer in the same ball park, such that it isn't "far and away" better. Albies is clearly below Jimenez. Cease is clearly above the bottom of the top 100, ergo, this is totally wrong.

Q traded to Cubs/Jimenez, Cease ++ to Sox
QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 04:50 PM) That's one player, not an offer. An offer is the entire package. For example, the Braves could've put together something like Albies, Allard/Soroka, two non-irrelevant pieces, and that would've far surpassed what was acquired for Q. Another team could've put together a package that may not have been as topheavy, but actually gave the White Sox four players with a decent-strong possibility of contributing in MLB someday instead of two. I'd really like to know what else was on the table. There is absolutely nothing stating that was an offer.

Q traded to Cubs/Jimenez, Cease ++ to Sox
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 04:46 PM) But Albies would defy the "far and away" claim. To me it would, anyway. To Williams and Hahn it may not. Which is the other aspect of this - evaluation is subjective. It isn't JUST Albies though. That isn't good enough. it would have had to have been Albies PLUS Acuna to match or beat the Cubs deal. Or it would have needed to be Albies + Maitan + another good prospect + at least a mediocre prospect. That has NOT been reported. Just Albies plus others.

Sox acquire SS prospect Yeyson Yrizarri
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 10:40 AM) These type of deals do not involve shifting $4 million in signing money. usually 1/2 million or so. $1.5 would make more sense. Again, what better deal was out there, and how much cap space were they asking for?

Q traded to Cubs/Jimenez, Cease ++ to Sox
QUOTE (Quin @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 04:36 PM) There was doubt we were going to get Brinson from insiders with extremely close sources. The following prospects would have beat out Jimenez going by MLB Pipeline. - Moncada - Torres (Yankees weren't parting with) - Rosario (Mets weren't buying) - Crawford (Phillies aren't buying) - Robles (Nats weren't in it for Q) - Meadows (Pirates weren't gonna give him up) - Albies - this is the only one that there was smoke to and while you always go for talent when it's as close as Albies/Jimenez, we had a much stronger need for a power hitting OF. And it wasn't just the top guy was awesome. It was a top 10 guy, plus another top of the rotation potential arm who was rated in the top 75. No one was offering that

Q traded to Cubs/Jimenez, Cease ++ to Sox
QUOTE (shipps @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 04:26 PM) We can only go by what Rick Hahn says. All other outside evidence backs it up. Every single story out there was about all of the players that each team DIDN'T want to include. In reality, with the two front guys the Cubs gave up, I am not sure which team in all of baseball could have beaten that top two. Houston couldn't for sure. Neither could Milwaukee. We already got the Red Sox top guys. A team would have had to have given up their top 3 with two of them being really high in the top 100 to even have a chance at beating that deal. The reality is that every single piece we have on what was offered for Q is that it was extremely underwhelming. That isn't just coming from Hahn, that is coming from other markets beat writers who were also telling us that teams didn't want to offer their top guys, let alone multiples of them.

Q traded to Cubs/Jimenez, Cease ++ to Sox
QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 11:43 AM) I am not suggesting that Hahn did NOT have other choices. To the contrary, I am stating that he did. One of the choices was to not make that breathless trade with Epstein and to simply wait to trade Quintana. Epstein became desperate to deal for a starter. The return was not overwhelming. No one can say that Quintana would have had any less trade value this week than he did last week...including to the cubs. Quintana will not win a World Series for the cubs but he may put them in a good position to get into the play-offs. Chalk up one big win already along with the emotional turn around of the team after getting that shot in the arm. Go ahead and root for the cubs . I guess the rest of us will wait for 2019 when What other offers did he have which were equal to, or better than, what the Cubs offered?

Sox acquire SS prospect Yeyson Yrizarri
QUOTE (Quin @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 06:14 PM) Amado Nunez, most likely. Also Robert obviously if we're counting him. Yolmer Sanchez is from Latin America too.

Sox acquire SS prospect Yeyson Yrizarri
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 10:44 AM) The fulll 3/4 seems an excessive price...that's an immense benefit to Texas and allows them to sign numerous prospects, they otherwise wouldn't be able to sign. And it costs them only 1 prospect? A month ago the White Sox trade Alex Katz for slot space. Would you rather have him or this kid?

Did Reinsdorf sell Bulls Draftee to sign Jake Burger?
There are some hot takes here that put Fox News to shame.

Sox acquire SS prospect Yeyson Yrizarri
QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 10:37 AM) We did sign 2 guys too. Yes, but assuming that we did trade the full 3/4 of what we could trade here, we weren't going to sign enough guys for that cap space to matter.

Q traded to Cubs/Jimenez, Cease ++ to Sox
QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 01:27 AM) Have a feeling he pitched bad because he was in the rumor mill for 6-7 months. Some guys struggle with knowing they are going to be going to some unknown team and location when they have been settled in a long time with one team at the major league level. I'd bet we could've got Jimenez, Happ, and Cease before the season. Jimenez has a good frame just needs to fill it out. I can see him being a big power hitter in the mold of a Nelson Cruz/Stanton if he can hit the weight room more and eat. Up to him to make it happen. No one offered anywhere close to that. The Sox got lowballed all winter on him. Every offer I saw was teams refusing to include their top prospect, or even two.

Q traded to Cubs/Jimenez, Cease ++ to Sox
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 07:06 PM) His stats are so odd. Leads league in K:BB ratio along with having the lowest BB/9, yet he's still not pitching too well overall. Sounds like he is throwing too many strikes.

Sox acquire SS prospect Yeyson Yrizarri
QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 09:50 AM) I look at as not much different than hoping on a prayer of a 16 year old LatAm signing, better this than letting it go to waste. If this was the best offer for our cap space, I am 100% OK with it. It is a high ceiling guy with some flaws. If you can get through to him to stop swinging at everything, he has the tools to turn into something. If he busts, its not like we could use the cap space anyway.

Sonny Gray not scratched?
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 08:28 AM) I hope the Astros go after Gray and get cornholed by Beane. Gray would fit right in with that rotation and I'm not talking about Houston's starting rotation. I'm talking about the revolving door Houston's pitchers have with the DL. Passing on a durable pitcher like Q only to turn around and add a pitcher like Gray to their brittle rotation sounds like a Luhnow move. this is just wrong.

Frazier to Boston Rumors getting heavy
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 02:44 PM) Geeze That's like accounting records: One set for the investors, one for the IRS, and then the real set. The Padres got into huge trouble for this last year.

If we are getting back much of anything for our rentals, you can't be really disappointed.

Q traded to Cubs/Jimenez, Cease ++ to Sox
QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 08:13 PM) Sources: The Braves made a strong and serious run at Jose Quintana, with an offer that included 20-year-old SS Ozzie Albies. Per Passen Unless the second player was Acuna or Maitan, it wasn't going to be a better front end of a deal.

Burdi to have Tommy John
QUOTE (mac9001 @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 06:38 PM) You only use up an option if he's called up. At this point I wouldn't even give him a Sep call up. Pretty sure it works when you get sent down after spring training. AKA you get optioned to AAA once you are on the 40 man roster.
