Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 10, 2016 -> 12:20 PM) Happy this trade didn't get completed. Yeah, if that is the deal, I'd rather keep Q.

Don't stop now boys
QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 01:01 PM) Who is beating out Giolito and Lopez for the #4 and #5 SP spots? Shields and Fulmer? Also, didn't Boston already start Moncada's clock last season? If so, what's the gain to starting him in the minors? It is all about service time. As long as all of them spend longer in the minors than they were up last year their service time won't equal a full year, which means the Sox own them for another season. There are 183 days in a season. By CBA a seasons worth of service is 172 days or more on the major league roster. Just as an example, if Moncada had 30 days last year, if he serves less than 142 on the major league roster this year, he doesn't hit 172 and he won't have a full year's worth of credit. No idea how much time he actually spent on the roster, so the exact number could vary. If he ends with 170 days, that is less than a year, so the team maintains his rights for another full season.

Don't stop now boys
QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 12:57 PM) That's my biggest fear at this point. Via trade this offseason, they have removed 2 players from last year's roster but then added back 3 (assuming Moncada, Giolito, and Lopez all break with the OD roster). Call me skeptical of this FO, but I won't be convinced this is a full rebuild until they deal at least 2 other lesser vets or 1 high profile vet like Q or Abreu. According to Hahn, all are ticketed for the minors, which makes sense in giving an extra year of control if you want until like June.

White Sox win the offseason - again!
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 12:17 PM) At least we are fairly certain that will happen, given the kind of talent we are now accumulating. Under the approach of the past few seasons, to which you grabbed your pom poms and ran into the street to celebrate, god only knows when we would have stopped being "mired in mediocrity". Now we can at least see some light at the end of the tunnel. The same couldn't be said during the past several years. Fairly certain is WAY overstating the case.

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 12:04 PM) I don't think Abreu's market is that good anyway, and he's such a head down put in your work type guy. This is probably more accurate than the whole mentoring thing.

When will they win in season? Check back next decade.

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
Scott Merkin @scottmerkin 1h Through the White Sox, @79JoseAbreu, has commented on the acquisition of Yoan Moncada. Abreu: "I am very happy about the White Sox acquisition of Yoan Moncada. I’m proud because I played with him in Cienfuegos... More Abreu: "I was his captain, and now we are going to play together again. He is a very talented player...More Abreu: "and it will be an honor to work with, guide and support him”. One more, Abreu: “(Moncada) is going to make a huge impact in the White Sox organization and both the fans and the team will be thankful”

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 09:21 AM) What would you pay for a bottle of water in the desert when you are thirsty? That method isn't that distinct. It is basically saying that all have this value, no matter what liquid they are, even though a bottle of anti-freeze, while great for driving your car, doesn't do you any good if you need a drink. As the White Sox have demonstrated it does you no good to have pitching, but no CF, C, 3B, 2B, etc.

QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 09:16 AM) What exactly will it take for people to not make excuses for Trump? Like if someone saw a direct deposit receipt from a donor that said "Quid Pro Quo for Political Actions" on it, is that sufficient? Selling a Senate seat apparently.

2018 free agency
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 09:08 AM) I don't care if you win 40 games in 2018, if you put up enough money then these guys will be "Interested". Which won't happen.

2018 free agency
QUOTE (ron883 @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 08:17 AM) Did Lester have an issue signing with the rebuilding cubs? For a mega contract, Machado to would come here to be the Lester of our white sox imo. 9 years 270m, possibly frontloaded. Sox will have so much payroll. I want to say the Cubs added an extra year and was $20 million higher than than the next best offer on Lester.

2018 free agency
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 02:29 AM) We are talking about going into the 2018 season right? After a 100 loss 2017 season, where the Sox are still trying to figure out pieces - which will work and which will not? Maybe something that would be reasonable, but 10/$400 for Harper is out of the question, as is 8/$240 for Machado, though that latter is preferable. Also, if Machado hits free agency and signs elsewhere, I'll eat a hat. Any kind of hat. If they gave $150 million to Davis, losing the actual face of their franchise in Machado would ruin them. He'll be in Baltimore for a while. 2018 will probably be the worst year of the rebuild, as the players we are bringing in will start getting to the majors for the most part.

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 07:43 PM) He does have a little too much of drop and drive for me. Hopefully the angle they are thinking is staying taller. I know Cooper likes that in general. I was just going to say, the Cooper mantra is to work tall, drive downhill, and don't overstride.

Adam Eaton Appreciation Thread
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 09:44 PM) What is it with you and this "ME AND EVERYONE I LIKE AGAINST THE WORLD" mentality? You have to bring it into every damn thread and then put words in others mouths. He has been taking Trump lessons.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (QuickJones81 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 07:23 PM) Bregman RC Year (Age 22): 49 G, 13 2B, 3 3B, 8 HR, .264/.313/.478, 115 OPS+, 1.8 WAR Beckham RC Year (Age 22): 103 G, 28 2B, 1 3B, 14 HR, .270/.347/.460, 106 OPS+, 2.1 WAR Not very different numbers. We know how things turned out for one of them, which shows that a fast start is not necessarily indicative of being a sure thing. If they succeed during a call up, they are the next Gordon Beckham. If they fail, they suck. Oh Soxtalk.

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 06:34 PM) SEC needs to monitor Trump family positions on any company he comments on that moves the market. The sad fact is that there is so much insider trading done in the house and senate, except then they call it things like "lobbying".

Sox fans' patience through a rebuild
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 04:47 PM) That is a very reasonable prediction 2017 / 2018 = suck big time 2019 = return to respectability, finish .500 or better 2020/2021/2022 = Window to contend I think you are about a year quick. 2017 is a lost year, and isn't going to see most of the guys we get even get to the majors yet. That will really start to happen in 18 and 19.

Sox fans' patience through a rebuild
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 01:42 PM) Then why haven't they drawn more, and why would putting a better team out there make things better if the game didn't matter? The last time the Sox did a total rebuild was 1987 attendance 1987 1,208,060 1988 1,115,749 1989 1,045,951 Then they won 94 games and drew 2 million in 1990. There is also White Flag where we went from 1.9 million to 1.4 million in one year. My guess is that we see a pretty similar drop off this year to next, and then further in 18 and 19.

Sox fans' patience through a rebuild
QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 11:24 AM) The Sox have never done a full tear down and rebuild in the time I've been a Sox fan (early 90s as a kid) and while there has been an obvious, overt resistance to the idea from Reinsdorf and Kenny Williams, I always sensed from other Sox fans that they felt the fanbase wouldn't want to bother with it either. But so far in the past 48 hours I've seen mostly excitement, people are ready to get this started and see it through properly. What do y'all think? Am I off base here? You just put "Sox fans'" and "patience" right next to each other, without it being a joke? Sox fans won't have five years worth of patience. That I know.

Frazier Trade Discussion
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 01:22 PM) Bob Nightengale @BNightengale 1m1 minute ago The #Nationals tried to get #WhiteSox to expand the Adam Eaton trade to include closer Todd Frazier, but Sox refused, will deal separately Well that is one way to explode Frazier's trade value.

White Sox looking to deal Robertson
QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 01:19 PM) Anybody think we would kick $ in to move a Robertson trade along? I know JR doesn't typically do that, but I think it would probably drum up more interest. I know his contract isn't a killer compared to what the open market is right now, but it definitely does come with risk given that he hasn't exactly been great. I just feel like a team would be more willing to give up something decent if they were getting Robertson at say 2/$18M I don't think the dollars are that big of deal, as compared to his performance last year.
