QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 20, 2016 -> 10:41 AM) Because 9 games ago, he had a .690 OPS. Combine that with his .627 OPS last season, not good. Carlos Sanchez had a hot month last year. I don't see people wanting him to be a regular. He isn't as good as he has been recently, he wasn't as bad as he was previously. To say he's a starter is very premature, and that isn't even getting into the physical problems he's had since he took over for Lawrie. Missed a bunch of games with a bad back. Missed some more now with a calf problem. His minor league career is sprinkled with physical issues. In five seasons Brett Lawrie has never played 150 games. He has only been over 125 once. He has been under 100 twice.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 20, 2016 -> 08:08 AM) This is all nonsense. Saladino put up a .284/.315/.455/.770 slash line across 93 plate appearances in August. What changed between August & July? Oh that's right, he got consistent playing. There's nothing really flukey about those numbers either, so it's convenient you completely ignored them. And no one is arguing that Saladino is a .837 OPS player, so I'm not sure why you're cherry-picking his last nine games. Clearly his September are inflated due to a ridiculous .413 BABIP. Show me one poster who said that player is their expectation. I patiently wait for your heavily-spinned response. Really its no different than picking out his absolute low point and saying that is who he is.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 20, 2016 -> 10:05 AM) random gun stats some may find interesting http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slatest/201..._3_percent.html I have to say that this seems normal, as I have seen it across many other areas. Most consumption of a particular item is concentrated in a much smaller percentage of its users. I have to say that this seems like typical economic behavior. For example, Health care: 50% use little to none, the top 5% use about 50%.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 20, 2016 -> 09:02 AM) So apparently Cutler played through torn ligaments in his thumb that first happened in the Texans game. And ESPN dopes made the Philadelphia Eagles pre game show all about how Cutler wasn't tough. People are idiots. Cutler was 10/13 prior to reaggravating the thumb injury. That doesn't fit the narrative of everything always being his fault though. With everything that has gone on, I don't get the meme that Cutler isn't tough. Apparently he needs to put on a floor show of acting like he is pain to convince everyone that he is really in pain.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 19, 2016 -> 10:01 PM) We aren't getting a nice return for Brett Lawrie, so it sounds like you're good with going cheap somewhere else (CF, DH, & C), because we aren't going to have the money to fill all these holes. Not sure how that makes us better, but hey, I'm all for rebuilding anyways. Why are you so gung ho for Leury Garcia and/or Carlos Sanchez?

Tyler Saladino
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 19, 2016 -> 08:56 PM) So I take it you're all for rebuilding then? How do you expect this team to get better if you don't plan on signing any free agents? BTW, there are several DH/OF types that could help us next year. If we decide to "go for it" I'd rather commit my resources to one of them than Lawrie when we have a cheap in-house option place for 2B. Unless we are getting a nice return, I don't see a need to open up a spot for Leury Garcia or Carlos Sanchez.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 19, 2016 -> 08:56 PM) Believe someone floated out idea they didn't want to replace Ventura with Renteria during the season in case they played terribly down the stretch. I thought I read that Rentaria wouldn't take the job midseason beacuse he didn't want to do that to Ventura?

Tyler Saladino
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 19, 2016 -> 07:39 PM) So ignore the holes all together then? Is that really what you're suggesting? Also, why can't we use that $5M towards a quality free agent? What free agent? This class is the worst in modern history. Hell, Lawrie would be one of the top players on the market if he were a FA>

Tyler Saladino
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 19, 2016 -> 06:16 PM) Not sure I agree there. We have several significant holes and the $5M+ Lawrie will earn next season could best be used to elsewhere. To get the next Latos or Rollins?

2016 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 19, 2016 -> 05:36 PM) Again what is the point? Should I just start posting random facts in a thread? Does that make any sense. It was posted in both Republican and Democrat thread, there surely must be some sort of point to that random fact. Its like saying "Mount Pinatubo erupted on June 15, 1991." Drunkbomber posted a fact. Okay great, so what was the point? It should be easy to answer. Posting random questions in a thread isn't any better.

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Sep 19, 2016 -> 05:16 PM) Also, its kind of sad that people arent bothered by the fact that the media is manipulating information to try and influence our presidential election. I know a lot of people around here dont care because it is attempting to help the dems but it is setting a pretty scary precedent. That and the DHS falsifying statistics because they know the real numbers would help Trump in the election. I think we have all become so accustomed to the government and politicians lying to us, under the guise of it being for our own good, that no one seems to care anymore. In fact if it falls under ones political pervue, most likely you will take part in justifying those lies as being good so that whatever boogie man your particular group has erected doesn't sneak in and kill you all.

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Sep 19, 2016 -> 05:11 PM) All I brought up was that our military accidentally bombed the Syrian Army killing dozens of soldiers who are fighting AGAINST Isis. I was asked about what I would do in Syria to which I said I have no idea. Don't you know in order to question the death of innocents, you have to have a doctoral thesis ready to go?

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 19, 2016 -> 04:51 PM) I like both Lawrie and Saladino. It doesn't have to be one or the other as we have roles for both of them to fill in 2017 Unless you get a big offer for Lawrie, there is no reason to not bring him back again. He isn't cost prohibative.

9/19 Sox at Royals
The positive to take from today is that despite covering 5 innings with guys from the bottom of the pen, they didn't walk anyone. Especially with Kahnle who pitched today, and then Beck and Ynoa, walks are going to be the thing that keep them from being major league pitchers.

Tim Anderson has improved his defense
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 19, 2016 -> 03:30 PM) Not sure if he tweaked his swing but he's been pretty mediocre at the plate the last few weeks. No extra base hits in 53 at bats, with very few hard hit balls. To me, it looks like he has gone away from using his lower half in his swing and it's causing a significant number of weak grounders. Would love to see him and Rodon finish strong. Honestly he had been overdue for a slump. At every other level it happened upon his promotion. This is where we learn about Tim Anderson as a major leaguer.

2016 Republican Thread
QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 19, 2016 -> 01:44 PM) He hasn't been around recently. I see people posting damning stuff on HRC like DB is posting and then the same people respond the same way. 1.) Ad hominem towards the source of information 2.) Russia's behind it 3.) "That's the way things are." 4.) Say it's ridiculous to question her health and then in the same post talk about Trump's diet HRC is getting chased by Congress for both Benghazi and the email server right now, the media is getting caught over and over again covering for her, her camp is getting caught lying and deceiving about her health, etc. Now the polls are finally starting to show people are getting scared off of Hillary. She's a lying, deceiving crook with more issues around her then you could make up for a TV show. Just putting everything else aside, the email server should put her to sleep. The FBI is getting called on their garbage by Congress and HRC should see her true fate unless some shenanigans disallows Chaffetz and the oversight committee from following through. It is sad that the campaign has essentially devolved into that she isn't Trump. The two party system is just broken. We have the two worst Presidential candidates in history to show for it. Yet so many people are still chained to their party's machines and just reflexively defend these people.

U.S. Cellular Field history...
QUOTE (captain54 @ Sep 18, 2016 -> 09:55 PM) In theory, the bonds that were used to finance not only the stadium, but the renovations to the stadium, and the restaurant/bar on the north side of 35th, were to be used to improve the state infrastuture and other much needed building or repairs of public and municipal facilities.. How exactly does an athletic stadium fit into that criteria? and $209 million since 1991? In 2016, the state spent $12 billion in pensions ALONE Imagine if Ricketts got his way and had the entire Wrigleyville area leveled for his own purposes. from Clark to Sheffield from Addison to Roscoe? and throw in north of Wrigley from Waveland to Grace, from Racine to Sheffield.. just for fun... Ricketts..can dream .. but Ricketts dreams.. became JR's reality... I'd say you got those two things backwards. How many hotels does Jerry own next to Sox Park? How many private residences does he own?

U.S. Cellular Field history...
QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Sep 18, 2016 -> 08:46 PM) Like tom ricketts doesn't want that too? Or the steinbrenners? Or rocky wirtz? No matter who finances the stadium, owners want to control where you spend your money as Joe fan. Oh, as for economic development, the neighborhoods surrounding the park are littered with million dollar homes. And the stadium itself has generated over 209 million in tax Revenue since 1991. The park was financed for 168 million. The Cubs are buying the rooftops, building themselves a plaza, and a hotel. I'd say that is WAY past a bar and parking.

Tyler Saladino
QUOTE (StrykerSox @ Sep 17, 2016 -> 02:34 PM) I don't think he's going to replicate this hot streak. And if we start him because of this hot streak, and he reverts back to his typical level, it'll be a small but meaningful contribution to the fact that you and I will be watching more s*** baseball next year. Why does only his absolutely lowest spot in a cold streak count, but not his hot streak? That is a 100% misleading and biased misrepresentation of his season.
-
Tyler Saladino
QUOTE (StrykerSox @ Sep 17, 2016 -> 02:19 PM) Saladino has had an 18 game hot streak (OPS of .935 in that span). Before that, he was at a .674 OPS. That puts him dead last among qualified MLB 2Bs. Now at .738, there are only five MLB two-baggers below him (Phillips, Gennett, Panik, Utley and Harrison). Let's not act like Saladino is some proven hitter who can only be prevented from starting at second next year by the acquisition of Moncada or better. He's had a nice 18 games, but he's been BAD for most of his career. If regular Tyler (as in the player we've seen for 88% of his career) shows up and he's a starter, we are going to sink hard. Most of his career? lol. We are talking about a kid in his rookie year essentially. I do appreciate how instead of focusing on a hot streak, you picked out the exact lowest point he was at in a full three month span, and are treating that as if it was his entire season. That is his low point. Not his average, not his median. His zenith. His bottom. We are talking about a kid who hasn't even played a total of 162 games yet. Again, the average OPS of all 2Bs is .775. So he is slightly below average, with way above average defense. If you go off of Fangraphs OPS+, the kid is sitting 21st in baseball at 96 RC+. The crazy thing is that in the counting state of Dwar, he is 13th. If you were to extend him out to a full season's worth of games, he'd easily be in the top 10. What you are looking at already is a middle of the road major league 2B, if he doesn't improve a lick. If he improves a marginal amount, he is a top 10 major league 2B, as a cost of 500k for another two years.
