  1. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 02:26 PM) Which is why I prefer Braun, if we are going to throw caution to the wind in terms of character references Braun has a bad back, bad ethics, and a very large contract.
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 02:13 PM) Oh who gives a s***? These guys aren't your friends. We are men, who cheer for other men in silly outfits to play a game against other men in silly outfits. You aren't endorsing their character or their behavior off the field by cheering for them to win a game. If you really want to look at it that way, Jose Reyes hasn't been that good anyway.
  3. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 02:08 PM) Agreed. Steroids are one thing, beating women is another. How about trying to ruin someone else's life for something that didn't happen?
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 02:04 PM) Great, bulls are sending me down a goose chase where I imagine Wiggins on the team. There is no reason to. I can't see the Wolves ever agreeing to it.
  5. CBS Sports NBA ‏@CBSSportsNBA Jun 14 Report: Bulls won't trade Jimmy Butler to Wolves unless they get Andrew Wiggins http://cbsprt.co/1Ui1QIp
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 01:14 PM) Yeah, years. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...&hl=decline The 2002 Paul Konerko threads were something special too. I remember people wanted to trade him for Edwin Jackson really badly.
  7. For what this team needs, I'd rather chase Alex Guerrero
  8. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 01:02 PM) How many times have we heard this, or a variation of it, regardless of the position: well, they won't be this bad all year! They'll snap out of it eventually. They can't suck forever. They'll eventually find their form. Etc., etc., etc.... Been hearing this for years. Yeah. Yeah, years. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...&hl=decline
  9. QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 11:54 AM) Okay, I trust your opinions. Considering the Hawks grabbed him with the 18th pick and he still shown flashes of being a dynamic offensive threat at 21 (He hasnt completely bombed since joining the team) I would have thought there would have been some team that was like, hey we have to jump in and get this guy, with a pick better than the 50th. If we had just traded TT, yeah, the return would have been much closer to Saad. But packaging him with the Bickell deal nuetralizes a ton of that trade value as the NHL is talking about a very static cap this year, if the escalator clause isn't enacted. That alone is a difference of $2.6 million.
  10. QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 11:41 AM) DAMN. I am nothing close to a hockey expert but I would have thought Teravainen would have netted a waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better pick/picks than that. I know they are taking on Bickell but good lord, TT may be one of the leagues top stars in a year or two? Am I overrating him? I think a tier below that is his top. A big time point scorer maybe, but not a franchise changer. He has really got to learn to fight in the corners. Kane's game didn't go to that next level until that happened, I think TT is in the same boat.
  11. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 11:06 AM) I'd probably always answer trout regardless, but the impact of his bat in the mix, plus elite CF, plus giving us back our elite RF is a really sweet fit. Best pitcher in the world won't matter if every hit to right field is a double. Yeah, the addition of Mike Trout would be bigger for a team that lacks offense and CF help right now.
  12. If you are willing to drive out to NW IN, you can get same day interviews.
  13. Any chance at Schmaltz getting signed now?
  14. QUOTE (Tony @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 10:47 AM) Per Myers #Blackhawks trade Bickell and Teravainen to Carolina, get a 2nd-round pick (50th overall) in this draft and a 3rd-round pick in 2017 draft. Damn that sucks. f***ing cap stagnation.
  15. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 10:35 AM) Ss2k5 please explain how Republican presidential nominee donald trump claiming that current president Obama is a Kenyan Muslim foreign agent is actually the fault of the Democrats, I'm lost on this one! Obama is the one claiming that labeling leads to radicalization. Ask him.
  16. QUOTE (shysocks @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 10:37 AM) Or, perhaps, the people who disagree with you are not simpletons, and there's a third line of thinking, which is that his peripherals, velocity, general ability - all of it has been declining as his advancing age would suggest, and that he was never nearly good enough to maintain a 3.02 ERA or whatever he had. I was against acquiring him well before the last three starts. Like I said, time will tell. A small decline is much different than this. Even thinking of something a little worse than his career line makes sense to me. When you have people complaining that James Shields hasn't been DFA's after two starts, yes, I will mock that.
  17. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 10:27 AM) Bruce Levine was on with Mully and Hanley this morning and said in the 3rd inning that a team executive came down after identifying a mechanical issue. They feel like he's tipping his pitches. Shields and Cooper have begun to work on it apparently. Coincidentally the 4th and 5th innings were scoreless.
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 10:17 AM) It is the point, because it's more important when people in power do it. Because when people in power do it it is part of policy, policy that can be enacted, policy that will affect real people. SO "some people on the left use labels" doesn't matter, because people on the left didn't nominate a candidate proposing new immigrants identifying as conservative sand banning them. Marginalizing them and taking away rights. Trump matters in this thread because he is the republican nominee for president of the United States. So yes, people on message boards call a section of the republican party radicals. But they didn't nominate a presidential candidate on the premise that they blame, marginalize, discriminate and remove rights of other American groups. But the Republicans did. Important things are happening in the world and in the United States, and the Republicans elected Trump. He's not some random republican congressman saying dumb things, he is the major party canidate. It matters a lot what he says, what he says has a large constituency. The point is Obama made a whole speech about labels and radicalization, but apparently doesn't see any connection with labeling, and the further radicalization of this political party at home. If Obama really is right, and this does contribute, he, the Democratic candidate for President, and his party are assuming the same level of responsibility for Trump, that they are trying to assign to Republicans for the radicalization of moderates abroad. The President is marginalizing and labeling an entire group of people here, and sure doesn't see any problem with that. It makes his words ring much more hollow than the first time I listened to them.
  19. The Sox almost have to take a look at him.
  20. QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 09:55 AM) http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/shielja02.shtml I won't post the stats here, but just check out that link - it should give Sox fans some hope. I know he's aging, but he's thrown over 200IP every year since 2007 (which shows his ability to not only be consistent, but go late in games) and has had an ERA over 4 only twice since 2007. Every other year has been UNDER 4. So 4.20ERA to me is very doable even in old age. He's not going to be this bad all year - just sucks it happened in his first 2 starts with the Sox. I hate this team as much as anybody right now and have taken negative takes on almost every aspect, but Shields is one where I think it may work out decent. A Hall of Fame pitcher just publicly posted his mechanical flaw. People can either go with that, or they can go with their idea that in the matter of 3 starts James Shields has completely forgotten how to pitch.
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 09:29 AM) It is different. Donald Trump believes the President of the United States faked his birth certificate and was born in Kenya. While some people on the left say that Bush planned 9/11. Same thing. It's just like when Reinsdorf complained about Horace Grant backing out of a verbal deal. None of that stuff is actually the point. The point was the gigantic speech about not needing to label and marginalize large groups of people, all of which are being done anyway.
  22. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 09:07 AM) When the democratic nominee gives a speech blasting the democratic president for not saying "radical right" when talking about gun control, you can throw around your #bothsides insults in all of its glory. But for now, the right nominated Donald Trump, who is making the case that all non-white people living in America are not really Americans. It's just #oneside. #itsdifferent
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 08:36 AM) KW said the same thing about Jon Adkins... Oh crap, someone different said something similar 15 years ago. We might as well all quit posting now.
