  1. With as little playing time as he has seen lately, this isn't a big surprise for Sands.
  2. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 03:08 PM) Callis article on tough signs, Groome/JUCO, and the possibility that the Braves are looking to cut a deal at 3. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/182564040/dr...picid=151437456 Interesting. This could mean another year of sliding talent for the White Sox, in a year where they have the extra pick at 26 to take advantage of it. Hopefully it all works out.
  3. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 02:27 PM) I dont think any of you need to be making this a personal thing. If the Sox are more important to someone else than they are to you, who are you to judge them? It's their lives and they are free to choose how they want to live it. I understand frustration with negativity, but a lot of people use message boards like these to commiserate with fellow fanatics. For you it may be a nuisance, for others it may therapy. Isn't it just best to block those that irritate you so your experience is more enjoyable? Definitely don't try to talk to or convince anyone to expose them to a different line of thinking.
  4. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 01:44 PM) Talk about a Cubs fan mentality That "mentality" allowed them to do the rebuild they just did. Boy, we are really showing ownership aren't we?
  5. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 01:21 PM) I can see that. I think working for so many different pro and amateur sports teams has taken some of the intensity out of my "must win" attitude. For years it was just keep them on the field or get them back ASAP. After awhile it becomes, is the one more win really worth all of this? I understand it it from the athletes and management point of view but from a long term health position it can be very different. At the end of the day, I can't see making a sport important enough (well without getting a paycheck from it) where it turns into something that I draw self-worth from. The game owns you at that point, and that just doesn't make sense to me.
  6. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 01:49 PM) Hmmm, hard to tell reading your posts. The Sox are also one of the more prominent parts of my life, always have been and likely always will be, but I take such a different approach to things than you. But as you said, everyone is different. Just don't think pointing out every single negative thing helps the picture, really, and certainly sucks out the enjoyment (at least would for me). Yes, totally this.
  7. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 01:02 PM) South: With respect that's your opinion. Your thinking isn't gospel and isn't set in stone from Moses. It depends on the individual. Again no offense, people are different, they have certain values and approach things differently. To me my passion for the White Sox is, was and always will be the third most important / prominent part of my life behind my wife and my son and his family. Mark It isn't gospel for sure. But in terms of it being a third priority in life, I will never understand that at all. Seeing something like that just blows my mind.
  8. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 12:42 PM) I guess this is the difference. I still love the game of baseball. Win or lose I still enjoy watching and going to games. The games are more enjoyable when they win but really just love to watch baseball. Bingo. The games are entertainment, not life, death, or any of life's other problems. It is an escape from that. If it stresses you out, or angers you for any real period of time, you aren't getting out of it, what you should be getting out of it.
  9. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 11:56 AM) They never give up on gamethread That was firmly posted with tongue in cheek.
  10. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 11:56 AM) Your last point is very interesting. At the time I was among those who felt that if the Sox won the World Series and then sucked for the next ten years it would be worth it. Having (ironically) basically gone through that exact scenario, now I really wonder. The Sox from 1951-1967 were one of the best, most stable franchises in all of MLB. 17 straight winning seasons, seven of them with 90+ wins yet they only made the World Series once and lost it. To be perfectly honest with you if the devil offered me that scenario today I might very well take it...at least I'd see very good baseball and know that more than likely when the season was done the team was going to win a lot more games then they lost. I'd have to think hard about that one. And one final point, you're chances of winning the World Series are zero if you don't even make the playoffs. Those teams you mentioned at least had a shot to do so by making it. I'd gladly take my chances of the Sox not winning it if at least they could get there to try. Mark I remember how common that line of thought was in the early 2000's. You are quite literally the first person I have seen bring it up and say they might have been wrong about. Everyone else just pretends it never was said.
  11. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 11:19 AM) This is like blaming the Jews for the Holocaust. If the Jews hadnt taken German jobs, then the Germans wouldnt have been mad at them. Shame on those Jews. The real problem is no one wants to take responsibility for their own actions. Who cares what the other side thinks, just because Trump may think idiotic things, doesnt make me all of a sudden change who I am to combat him. I think the actual reality is that the right convinced themselves that the left believes racism only works one way. I have yet to meet someone on the left who wouldnt concede that there can be racism against white people. But then again, I think the point that many on the left are actually making is: While racism may occur against white people, it is more prevalent against non-whites. The reason why Trump is so popular is because creating scapegoats is effective. There is a certain percentage of the population who are very willing to blame everyone else for their problems, who do not want to take accountability for their own position in life. Well see what happens in November. Bingo. You have also hit on the reason that Bernie Sanders has gotten as far as he has, and large share of the Democratic platform having been what it has been historically.
  12. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 11:15 AM) Well you certainly have. On the bright side, with all of these people who have given up, the game thread should be much better tonight.
  13. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 11:45 AM) Right, I've been a fan for 55 seasons. I must be a masochist. LOL. Try something else please. Mark tasty irony.
  14. QUOTE (Tony @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 10:53 AM) I would expose both Seabrook and Hossa before Pokka and TVR. However, especially in the Hossa case, I think they have an agreement worked out with him to eventually go on LTIR Totally agree on the end idea.
  15. Anyone else watching After the Thrones?
  16. In a non-traditional sense, now might be the time to trade Corey Crawford. His value will probably never be higher, and it would free up $6 million a year.
  17. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 09:13 PM) So who is going to recommend some shows? 12 Monkey's has been excellent again this season. Looking forward to Mr Robot.
  18. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 10:08 AM) That's why I think the the Blackhawks will likely expose at least one core player in the expansion draft. The problem remains, though, a guy like Seabrook or Hossa can still hose the Blackhawks by retiring early even from another franchise. Expansion draft doesn't help for this year at least.
  19. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 09:59 AM) Maybe, but if they can just continue to make the playoffs, they still have a shot with their top end talent. I still maintain their core is too big by one Seabrook. Panarin next season is going to be tough to pay. If the cap drops, like is being talked about, the team is pretty much capped out, and one of the core has to go.
  20. QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 09:33 AM) 42 years old and in better shape than most. Heart attacks are weird. I don't know the guy, but what you take to get into that shape can destroy your heart.
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 09:36 AM) Ummm they traded 6. None of the above crazy spending happens without Cabrera, which necessitated gutting their system at the time They also traded a ton to get Juan Gonzalez. November 2, 1999: Traded by the Texas Rangers with Danny Patterson and Gregg Zaun to the Detroit Tigers for Alan Webb (minors), Frank Catalanotto, Francisco Cordero, Bill Haselman, Gabe Kapler and Justin Thompson.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 09:12 AM) Then how did it happen in Detroit? Ilitch spent the money, built a winner...and then the fans started showing up and became loyal customers. They didn't come out first and buy season ticket packages after having historically some of the worst seasons in franchise history, THEN he authorized spending the money. So we should say it could never happen with the Reinsdorf family still in charge of the team. That's all fine and good, maybe 17-18 franchises work in that same fashion. The other teams prioritize winning first, budgets second. Ironically the best thing to happen to Detroit during that stretch wasn't any move they made. It was Gonzalez not signing the 7 year $140 extension before falling apart and busting.
  23. This cap situation really has the potential to finally do in the Hawks.
  24. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 09:08 AM) Now that there is Caulfield post.
  25. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 08:07 PM) Structural racism isn't a two way street. The prejudices and assumptions minorities face aren't the same as a white person is going to face. That's why it doesn't work in reverse. That's easy the Supreme Court will throw out a case when it's shown that the prosecution worked to get an all white jury for a minority defendant - they are well aware of these realities. So it's not linear, and trumps racism doesn't actually flow logically from a recognition of structural racism. Which is exactly why Trump is so popular. The left has honestly convinced itself that racism only works one way, which drives the right crazy, so now they are returning the racism favor. Hate begets hate, racism begets racism.
