  1. That's good stuff. I especially liked the part where he talked about clearing his schedule to meet with Jerry.
  2. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 2, 2016 -> 10:37 AM) Give him a minor league deal with an opt-out and give everyone a shot after a couple more Danks starts. Like you mentioned above, the other alternative aren't doing much anyway. The thought is that no one will offer him a major league deal, so as long as the money plus the chance at the rotation are there, the Sox have a chance, if they want a chance.
  3. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ May 2, 2016 -> 12:06 PM) Ted Cruz' schtick is that he's THE real deal, ideologically pure Republican. Of course, part of being THE real deal guy is the implicit accusation that all the other Republicans are RINOs/phonies/traitors. The Republican playbook is supposed to be "Dems bad, Reps good." Ted Cruz' playbook is "Dems bad, Reps not very good either, Ted Cruz good." He's willing to throw GOP colleagues under the bus to further himself, and that's why they hate him. Cruz will compromise as long as it's politically beneficial and doesn't really look like a compromise. For example, he was on board with the Gang of 8 immigration bill if it included a no-citizenship amendment. But once the bill became unpopular, he started pretending that he hated the bill in every form from the get-go, that his amendment was a poison pill (LOL GUYS I WAS LYING THE WHOLE TIME), and that Rubio and the other Republicans involved were RINOs/phonies/traitors. TL,DR: Dude is a self-serving douche Bernie Sanders is running the same campaign style at a high level. He keeps running on the idea that he is the one true Democrat, and that people like Hillary even with their "mistakes" and "changes" are not the true Dems.
  4. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 2, 2016 -> 12:05 PM) I have discovered this little-known secret to winning games: You should bottle this up and sell it. You could be rich.
  5. QUOTE (hi8is @ May 2, 2016 -> 10:59 AM) Ah. Word. I missed that part in the game and in the gif it looks like the ump is awarding him a base. He points at him, and then you can sort of see him motion out with his other arm.
  6. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 2, 2016 -> 12:06 PM) Buehrle never really stayed in shape to begin with. He was never a guy who was hitting the gym multiple times a week in the offseason. He did get to a point where he had to start doing though after an off year. At his age, it would take some work to get back into shape after not having done so all winter.
  7. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ May 2, 2016 -> 11:31 AM) I realize this topic has probably been beaten to death here, but I can't find it. Google searching for news on Buehrle makes everything seem like crickets so far. Is he just holding out for a Cardinals offer, staying retired otherwise? That's because there is no news. Teams tried to get him over the winter, he didn't care. I doubt he wants to pitch, otherwise he would be pitching now.
  8. The thing that jumps out to me is that his reads seem SO much better in RF this year. Basically by the time the camera is on him, he is already moving towards the ball. I can't think of a single time this year when I saw Eaton break the wrong way on a ball.
  9. QUOTE (hi8is @ May 2, 2016 -> 10:16 AM) My only question is: why wasn't that a strike? It was. He swung, and struck out on the pitch. He made the walk of shame back to the dugout.
  10. QUOTE (MuckFinnesota @ Apr 30, 2016 -> 09:56 PM) Name change to SpankyEaton please. Your display name is changed, log on remains the same.
  11. QUOTE (bmags @ May 2, 2016 -> 10:08 AM) This one was my favorite because how far it starts left to right, and how it hits him twice. This is definitely the "folklore" story I'll tell on Sale. Think about the thought process as a slider leaves his hand from "I can hit this" to "My KNEE" Watch Navarro's glove. Even his catcher is wrong by about 3 feet as to where he thinks it is going to go.
  12. QUOTE (Tex @ May 2, 2016 -> 09:52 AM) Why Galveston? Great beach, used to live in Webster, and lots to do in the area for the kids.
  13. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ May 2, 2016 -> 09:49 AM) Zero chance they would put him on the 60 day DL. You can get away with a 15 day trip due to a phantom injury but not a 60. NO reason to use the 60 day DL anyway, with a roster spot still open.
  14. QUOTE (Tex @ May 2, 2016 -> 09:48 AM) Interesting if those two are linked. In other words are they suggesting that any central team winning 90 games has a 66% chance of making the playoffs or are they saying there is a 66% chance that the Sox will win 90 AND make the playoffs? There are a lot of independent variables at play here. One is all of the factors that go into what the White Sox win total would be, including when the White Sox win, that another team has to lose. Another factor is that no matter what number of games the White Sox win, there are 29 other teams who function mostly independent of the White Sox, are are accumulating their own wins and losses. The White Sox in percentage is made up of a relative confidence level, down to a number of standard deviations. Within that is built in a certain level of odds that the prediction could be lower, higher, or match. Besides that are the confidence levels of other teams. Within that there is always the chance of an outlier event, such as the White Sox winning 90 games, but 2 other wild cards winning 91 or more games thus making the White Sox not a playoff team. This early in the season (somewhere between 23 and 26 games for pretty much all of baseball), the amount of variables that can still happen (around 125-130 games for each baseball team) are still really high, meaning even though a projection of 90 games won is being made now, there isn't a lot of confidence in that number, thus only a 66% chance at making the playoffs. At least that is how I see it.
  15. QUOTE (Tex @ May 2, 2016 -> 09:46 AM) It depends on how you read the quote. Keeping him on the roster is the GM's decision, playing him should be the manager's decision. Based on the schedule, Ventura probably doesn't have much in the way of an option, if a SP is on the roster they almost have to pitch every 5th day. But, you could read into it that Ventura is being told to pitch him. No, he would be told that he is not the on the roster as a starting pitcher anymore.

It would shatter some stereotypes if Lawrie finally had his breakout year with the White Sox, instead of somewhere like Toronto.
  17. Sounds like we will be making a trip to Galveston TX this summer. We'll probably rent a house on the beach, see an Astros game, spend a day at the Johnson Space Center, take the Bolivar Ferry, and plenty of beach days.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 2, 2016 -> 09:04 AM) For a team with a front office who get to work in a clown car, a manager who shouldn't manage a lemonade stand, and a roster full of has beens and never weres, they are doing pretty well, although if you read gamethreads, should be doing better. :eeyore
  19. Today's update. Fangraphs is at 58.8%. Indians have finally fallen to second at 54.2%. Tigers up to 42.5% Royals still down at 19.7%. Baseball prospectus has us at 75.9%, Cleveland still at 64.1%, and Detroit at 31.6% 538 has the White Sox projected at 90 wins, and a 66% chance at making the playoffs. The Indians are next at 39%, with the Tigers at 35%.

  21. That was incredible. It was one of those moments that you tell you grandkids about 50 years from now. I have no doubt if Hawk was 30 when this happened, we'd be hearing about it today.
  22. We are also four wins ahead of the next highest win total in the AL, and the first in MLB to 18 wins.
  23. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 1, 2016 -> 10:33 PM) Nah, you gotta earn this level of shade and you have not. You basically just shat all over yourself. Couldn't of said it better myself. Signed Enjoying the ride.

Realistically, you can't have asked for more than what we have gotten from Lawrie already.
  25. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 1, 2016 -> 10:57 AM) Ryan Braun? The White Sox are on his no trade list, even without getting into that horrible contract he has.
