F McDonough. Who the hell is he throwing Pat Foley under the bus nationally for saying something that the whole fan base has been saying. Chris De Luca @ChrisDeLuca 20m20 minutes ago No surprise: McDonough called Bettman to say he wasn't happy with Foley's comment. Commish says call unnecessary, not a #Blackhawks issue.

Avi Needs to Go
QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Apr 22, 2016 -> 09:59 AM) My midyear pie-in-the-sky scenario Quentin and Morneau DH platoon. If you need 12 pitchers you can still get by if you promote Leury Garcia, who has OF/IF capability. Saladino and him can backup all spots on the diamond besides catching. Carlos Quentin couldn't even make the Twins.

**2016 TV Watercooler Thread**
I don't know if there are any Vikings watchers back, but overall that was disappointing season, followed by a really good finale. Too much stuff other than fighting and the Norse. I am bored to death with all of the English and French crap. Those characters are so much less compelling than the Viking group.

The only real decent team we have played so far was Cleveland, and they split with them before the rain out. On the bright side we are playing this in Chicago, and not in the bandbox in Arlington.

2015-16 NHL thread
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 22, 2016 -> 07:45 AM) I watched the play 10 times. I still have no idea what he's griping about... WTF REF!!! I COULDN'T SEE THE PUCK THAT CAN'T COUNT! A rant like that could have also come from a shift before that play. Kinda like a batter who gets a s***ty strike two call, and then swings and misses at strike three, but still yells at the ump about strike two setting it all up.

A fair and balanced soliloquy about Jose Abreu, by ron
QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 11:05 PM) Robin mentioned it after the game in his interview at mlb.com. He seemed frustrated in that Jose has to be selective. For a mod, you'd think you know some things deserve to be discussed on a message board. Why is Jose off limits? Your line is unbecoming of a mod who should know better IMO. Yes, it's worth discussing right now. If he was raking, our lineup would be looking a lot better. Melky has had a good start so the Eaton/Melky/Abreu threesome could be doing some damage if Abreu was doing Abreu-like things. Apparently only greg gets an opinion, and not mods. Sorry Q.

The Offense
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 10:10 PM) What, pray tell, is the "historical norm season" of which you preach "there is enough to compete" of the: - non-PED Cabrera - unproven Lawrie - post-2013 Jackson - post-concussion Avila - 37 year-old Rollins - Avi Garcia EVER Apparently this concept is too complex?

The Offense
QUOTE (Scoots @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 06:15 PM) We all know the offense sucks. I am hearing a lot of people saying that it will get better...but will it really? I remember a lot of people last year saying it will, but it never did. It never even really came close to getting better. I don't know if they need a better approach up there or what. It seems like each player has been figured out by the opposing pitchers. Those averages are just horrendous...a lot of the hitters aren't even hitting .200! With Texas coming to town, if the Sox don't start hitting, then I am afraid they will get swept. I REALLY hope that is not the case, as we have Quintana, Latos and Rodon (hopefully he's put that last start behind him...basically on 10 days rest) coming up, but the Sox are going to have to start scoring at least 4 runs pretty consistently if they want to have consistent winning baseball in my opinion. I' d be willing to bet that we do not finish the season with a team OPS of .613, considering even last year was .686.

The Offense
QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 07:28 PM) I think there are some real reasons to be pessimistic about the Sox offense. It's looking like they will be a bottom 10 squad on the positional side, maybe bottom 5. We need multiple guys to exceed expectations and that just isn't happening yet. Exceed? Nah. We just need the guys who are good to actually be good, and the guys who are OK to hit OK. It would be a bonus if the guys who suck could hit a step above sucky. If you get historical norm seasons from Frazier, Abreu, Cabrera, Lawrie, Jackson, the catchers, and Eaton, that alone goes a long way. Add some not awful seasons from Garcia and Rollins, and the improved defense and solid pitching, and there is enough here to compete.

(Insert Celeb Here) is Dead
QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 03:35 PM) Don't we celebrate people when they're alive by listening and paying for their music? Or watching their shows or movies? Hall of fame inductions? If you don't like what you read, scroll by. MTV is actually playing music videos today for Prince. And it is a human reaction to deal with the finality of death by realizing what you have lost. Honestly, I am not sure why that is a shock.

Misc. Sox Quotes & Tweets
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 03:29 PM) Cowley was on the radio today saying Samardzija used to "bully" the Sox catchers into calling the game he wanted to throw. He said this year that Avila and Navarro are much more willing to stand up for themselves to call the game Cooper wants. Bully them? Doesn't a pitcher always have the option to shake off a catcher if they are a vet?

20 Players Who Could Be Dealt At Deadline (MLB.com)
QUOTE (SoxSteve @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 04:30 PM) No it's the classic case of using WAR as a argument whether we should get a guy or not. Do you guys actually sit here and say" well i wish we had Justin upton on the Sox" but I'm not sure what is his WAR"? If i wish i had a dollar for every post when someone here said we should get Ian Desmond because he had a plus 2 or 3 WAR or whatever. Well i look at his his last 3 year average of 170 strikeouts and his 25 errors to realize he doesn't fit out team. But i look at a guy like Fowler or Markaikis and their OBP and say i wish we had one one those in the 2 hole no matter what there stupid WAR is. Actually yes, front offices have evolved past the Hawk Harrelson age of feelings and eye tests, and do look at advanced statistics. The White Sox are one of them. Though I do appreciate the irony of calling something stupid, while using the wrong "there".

The Offense
QUOTE (harkness @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 04:08 PM) If we don't start scoring (which we never really did last year) then we will keep falling towards 500 and eventually be under it. So wait, if we don't score more runs, we won't win much? That is a limb to go out on.

*Gamethread* 4/21 - Angels vs White Sox
QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 04:16 PM) If only we can hit like we hit in the 9th every other inning. There was actually a sense of urgency late in the game that was completely missing for the first 7-8 innings. I think it was the opposite. Guys took pitches and got good pitches to hit, instead of swinging at the first thing that was close. Cabrera and Lawrie worked the counts. Frazier didn't try to pull it, instead waiting back and hitting it the other way.

Again, nice patience. A base hit can tie it, a gapper wins it.
