9/24 Games
None of the team's offensive players are among the most highly regarded. You have the previous #1 pick in Gonzalez, and some guys who have some single tool types, such as Nishida/Tatum/Gladney, who you squint at and say "if things go right...", but not any really slam dunk type guys.

KC Royals
They also had some great farm players who had played in previous seasons and took their lumps ready to break out. We benched ours for guys like Tommy Pham and Nicky Lopez.

2025 Projected Arb Salaries (MLBTR)
Which is exactly what 29 other franchises would do so they could run Ramos at 3rd.

Crochet open to extension...
Because we spent it on Vaughn and Nicky.

Sure. But they also play defense better than Vaughn.

Team video review success rate...
Jerry probably doesn't want to get rid of his lucky betamax.

At least we weren't last.

That's not how this has worked in sports with floors.

Wildcard Round
It just goes to confirm what we all know. Getting to the playoffs means everything. Then anything can happen.

2025 Projected Arb Salaries (MLBTR)
Like I said before, if we are going to penny pinch, these are the places to do it, and not shoving Benny into a Crochet deal to save that same money.

2025 Projected Arb Salaries (MLBTR)
As I said yesterday there were 36 people who played significant amount of 1B this year and got 400 PAs. The White Sox were represented at #31 and #35 in that list. Seeing as Sheets was actually tied with Ty France at -0.9 fWAR , who actually split time with two different teams which means his failure wasn't concentrated in one team, unlike Sheets and Vaughn.

2025 Projected Arb Salaries (MLBTR)
Yeah, paying a guy six million dollars for being terrible is really sticking it to him.

2025 Projected Arb Salaries (MLBTR)
Look if the Sox want to be in the business of giving away millions of dollars for no production, they can pay me to sit home and put up more positive WAR than Andrew Vaughn did in 2024.
-
Andrew Vaughn
That continues to be an indictment of the White Sox, and even if it did happen, there is no promise he would have done the same with the Sox seeing has he hasn't seen anywhere near his earlier potential in 4 full seasons here.
-
Andrew Vaughn
-0.2 fWAR. He is a no hit, no field 1B only. He has no value.

I will also note that he took responsibility in a LIVE INTERVIEW, not a press release.

2025 Projected Arb Salaries (MLBTR)
This is exactly what I am trying to say. There are other cheap options. If you really want Andrew, non-tender him and bring him back for a number that looks more like 2024's salary. Especially if we are so damned budget crunched that we need to ruin a Crochet return by including Benny, take the common sense moves to cut payroll first. $6 million for a no hit, no field 1B in 2024 is insanity.

I am all for a Tim Elko getting a shot. Odds are he is the next Sheets/Vaughn, but I would rather pay him 800k to do that, versus talking about paying Vaughn/Sheets 9 million dollars to be the worst 1B combo in baseball.

And if you REALLY HAVE To have Nicky, Non-tender him and negotiate with him as a free agent and save yourself some damned money.

2025 Projected Arb Salaries (MLBTR)
Leave it to the White Sox to value "work ethic" over actual performance. We spent an entire winter bringing in all of these work ethic cases via free agency and trade, and it got us the worst season in MLB history. What would we learn from that lesson? Let's do it again! Imagine how many losses we could have had without Andrew Vaughns leadership.

This would totally be a Getz move, though I wonder if Jerry needing to save a few bucks for his kids would dictate this over Getz's wishes.

Crochet open to extension...
Here's my crazy idea of the day... Seeing the Diamondbacks meltdown over Jordan Montgomery, see if they are interested in a bad contract swap. Call it a crazy hunch, but a few things here. #1, he signed March 29th. Especially for pitchers, late signings seem to have big problems the same season. That spring training seems important #2, looks like he has a $22.5 million option which would have exercised and only one year of cost. While he costs more than Benny in year 1, the contract is over after 2025. #3 Benny's contract is apparently too much for the Chicago A's to stomach, so this gets them out of the last two years while saving a good chunk of change. No idea if AZ would be interested, but after hearing their own blow up Monty in the press today, he can't go back there.,
