February 13, 20251 yr Crazy money. Cubs are probably better off in the long run considering their top prospect is a 3B.

But he had already turned down 6/$156 from the Astros. $26 million per year. Didn't take a school of a haircut as Alonso. Cubs' fans still have Shaw. Feel the same way about this deal as Chapman a year ago at third for SFG.

And $40M/yr is what Bregman is actually going to get paid. That's what I'm referring to.

So she wouldn't have been HAPPIER with 6 years and $156 million in Houston, or the 6 years/$171+ offered by the Tigers? Because he's not going to get another contract like that again at age 33....even with relatively big offensive numbers induced by 81 games played at Fenway.
February 13, 20251 yr Most Cubs fans I know were convinced they were getting Bregman. I look forward to their tears.

Sadly, they are likely better off without him in the long run at this price and the fact that they have Matt Shaw. Nightengale said their final offer was 4/$120. $40 million AAV for Bregman is crazy money. Also, not spending this money on Bregman could help them resign Kyle Tucker next offseason.

February 13, 20251 yr I think the Nick Pivetta signing for Boston moving here. They lose pick #54 for Bregman but they receive #75 for Pivetta. They also forfeit $500K of international space. The Cubs otoh, would’ve forfeited 2nd, 5th and $1 million in international space.
