  3. QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 03:05 PM) If they hussle and suck, no problem. If they take $60m, dont care/hussle, and suck, I have a real big problem... No need to be calling anyone 'pathetic' -- with 64k posts on a website, you clearly have a lot of free time on your hands. Well using your standards, I am going to judge you by your last three posts, and since they suck, I have a real big problem with you. I think I will start another message board dedicated exclusively to your suckiness.
  4. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 03:05 PM) With our lack of pitching depth, if he has a good year he can easily be the #2 pitcher called up after Hudson... perhaps #3 if the sox like Torres alot as well. It could also make Hudson available for the right price in a big trade...
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 11:37 AM) Nope. I think its entirely plausible, but certain? God no. That's pretty much what I figured.
  6. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 12:05 PM) The GOP has made some strides lately, because of the economy mostly, but also frustration over Obama's performance, and some other factors. But none of that has changed the fact that the Republicans are fractured, and having trouble keeping the band together (which they have been very good at until recently). You have the Christian Coalition types, the libertarian/small government types, the old school moderate Republicans, and then the whole angry old white guy crowd that doesn't know who to align with (and driven mostly by talk show hosts and unfounded "facts"). The Tea Party seems to have started as the small government crowd, but then became the "I'm angry about Obama" crowd. I think the GOP has a golden opportunity in 2010 and 2012 to make big gains - but I also think they are unlikely to rally around anything other than "Obama sucks", successfully. That will work to an extent, but it won't give them anything huge, like 1994. People keep talking about the fracturing of the GOP, but why isn't anyone talking about the breaking apart of the Dems? Heck, they just lost one of their most moderate voices in Washington in Evan Bayh. He was a guy who routinely fought with the left wing of his party. They can't even keep their own people in line to pass their own agenda. Those divides have been in the GOP for a while, and this schism still hasn't happened.
  7. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 01:35 PM) Eric Gagne admitted to past HGH use, shocking the baseball world. Another name of the Mitchell report...
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 11:58 AM) Finally, a legitimate health update on Marquez and whether or not they did anything about those bone spurs in the offseason. Answer: they did! I'll be interested to see what happens now with him. Not being able to get a sinker down means you are basically a BP pitcher. He was a pretty highly regarded prospect before this.
  9. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 05:31 PM) Jermaine Dye , $4M. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 05:00 PM) JD for $4M to $5.5M There is zero chance Dye gets anywhere close to that money.
  10. QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 09:54 AM) Alex Rios http://www.talk-sports.net/mlb/sucks.aspx/Alex_Rios Why would you post by yourself over and over about Rios? That is just pathetic.
  11. QUOTE (The Critic @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 12:51 PM) SHRUNK 48 Nice.
  12. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 09:46 AM) Is Herm Schneider our new Fat Joke target!?!?!? That's brilliant, I never considered the coaching staff! Hurray! There is hope for this season yet! Low hanging fruit is always the stuff that gets grabbed first...
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 12:52 PM) Did Rios run over your dog? Nah, he tried, but of course he swung and missed.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 11:19 AM) What kind of odds are you willing to give? Who needs odds, you are convinced, right?
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 09:39 AM) So let's see, the other day I cited Gallup, R2K, Rasmussen, and CNN for polling data and my polling data was attacked. This time I go with Fox news, and my polling data is attacked. And then you say that I only post polling data that agrees with me. Of course I do. So do you. It was more attacked because you treat Fox News like the plague, but boy three months ago they showed Sarah Palin with an approval rating, so now they have to be right!!!! It's an old act. Sarah Palin is not going to be the nominee, I will bet you pretty much anything on that.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 09:14 AM) Romney is never going to be trusted by that party, probably with good reason. He's too slick, too wealthy, and he's not a real Christian. Huckabee...IMO, Palin beats him solely because they have the same base, and she's stronger with that base than he is. Pawlenty is sort of in the Romney mold except with less money to spend but no crazy religious background. I could see someone like say, Scott Brown, coming up as a legit outside challenger, but I think she easily winds up beating any of those. And anyway, just because I have to prove you wrong with data, here's a recent Fox News/Opinion Dynamics poll of approval ratings of all the Republican candidates. Amongst Republicans, Palin shows a 70% approval rating, best of any of the candidates. That poll is three months old, and from Fox, which is funny that when they agree with something, you have no problem pulling that out. Just last week the WaPost found over 50% of Republicans felt she was unqualified to be President. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/...s_slipping.html I know the left wing keeps pushing the Palin crap because short of actually being a decent President, the best thing that could happen to the Obama re-election campaign is Sarah Palin being on the GOP ticket.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 09:09 AM) Hell, I'm scared that we go into the 2012 race with still 11% unemployment because we never fixed the financial system or the housing market or health care or passed an energy bill and the stimulus was too small and not only is she your nominee, she winds up with a dominant win because "it's the economy, stupid". Even under the Obama administration's optimistic scenario we're still looking at 8%+ unemployment then. You really are that brainwashed, wow.
  18. QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 09:14 PM) Rios completely sucks, as you will learn - again. Worst move KW ever made... I wish I had a dollar for every time a Williams trade was described that way. I'd buy the Sox myself.
  19. QUOTE (Lillian @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 04:26 PM) Very funny. However, we are talking about a former perrenial All Star, and genuine super star, who got injured, became overweight and out of shape. His performance then fell off dramatically, right at a time in his career when he should have been in his prime. That suggests the possibility that his getting healthy and in shape could make a significant difference. Here is a link to his injury history: http://www.baseballinjurytool.com/injury-tool.php I understand that he has been linked to PEDS, however he was always a very good player until the last few years. Moreover, steroids don't help a hitter to make contact, nor to win Gold Gloves. Perhaps they made him stronger, and maybe he wouldn't have hit 51 homers in 2005 without them, but this guy was an elite player. He has really only struggled for the first time in his career, during the last 3 seasons, the time that he was hurt, and out of shape. Even then his numbers from last year project to 36 doubles, 34 homers and 86 RBI's. Wouldn't you take that at DH? The previous season, his first with the Dodgers he was injured and missed more than half the season. The year before that, his last year in Atlanta, he did have his first really bad batting average year, but even then he was productive, with 94 RBI's. I just think that while your point is well taken, in that they don't award wins or championships for being healthy and in shape, the improved physical condition can definitely enable a gifted athlete to perform up to his potential, while being injured and out of shape is a tremendous handicap. I'm optimistic, and am looking forward to seeing what he can do, especially with his apparent improved attitude. And remember that he's playing for a contract. And here is the pessimist in me... If he was a PEDs guy, what would stop him from finding something undetectable through piss tests to save his career?
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 08:01 AM) I'm 50/50 on Palin. If you put the primary out there right now, this moment, and the competitors were the suspects we have right now (Palin, Romney, Huckabee, Paul, Pawlenty, perhaps Jindal, etc.) then I think she'd win it and do so with relative ease. I think there needs to be either a new name in that field or a fundamental shift in the nation's politics before I'd say that changes. Do you disagree? If so, who would you say would win that case; a Repub. primary held right now? That's just it. It doesn't matter who would win today. The leader has not emerged yet. The leaders right now all have huge flaws, just like the Dems did four years ago at this time. Those thing will pull them down, and someone new will emerge. Like I said, I will put it in print here today, there is zero chance Sarah Palin or Ron Paul is the Republican nominee in 2012. I can't believe that you actually think it is possible, unless you have been drinking waaaaayyy to much of your own parties flavor-aid.
  21. What an incredible game. I have no idea how we won it, as it felt like we were shorthanded for the last 10 minutes of that game as Canada just put it on us. Ryan Miller was just incredible. The scary thing is, if Canada plays like that for 60 minutes, instead of 10, I don't know if we can beat them again.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 07:36 AM) So, which one should we consider you to be defending here, sarah palin or ron paul? Do you honestly believe that Ron Paul or Sarah Palin will be on the 2012 ballot? I will bet you your entire first year's salary that doesn't happen.
  23. I don't know if anyone has said this or not, but the Shaq/Howard Superman thing might be the dumbest grudge in all of professional sports.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 01:58 PM) The Tigers traded away Granderson for Financial Reasons, who will make $5.5 million this year, and signed Damon for that same role at $8 million. Good God can you imagine if the Sox had an off season like that? This place is ready to burn to the ground after a fraction of that.
