The legal side of playing movies
QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 08:55 AM) and with that theory, what if a 15 yr old girl has a sleepover with 20 of her friends. can they not play a movie there either? A private residence is considered a private showing.

The legal side of playing movies
As I understood it, has to be germane to something specific that the teacher is teaching. You can't just show a movie.

Back Up Catching Options
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 02:56 PM) I don't think AJ is a bad guy, I think he's just a survivor. And that wouldn't mean going out of your way to train your replacement. I mean, sure, if he was 40 and about to retire. But I'm pretty sure AJ sees himself as still a starter, for quite some time. And I recall a quote from Flowers describing his time talking with some of the Sox, and he said something to the effect of "well, AJ is AJ, what can you say?" I just don't see AJ being much of a teacher in this scenario. That is a pretty solid assessment IMO.

Sox GM Meetings
QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 08:46 AM) Is there any reason the GM meetings are shorter this year? MLB has been cutting back costs. That is why it is around O'Hare this year, instead of some resort.

Sox GM Meetings
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 08:31 AM) And at the same time penny pinch like a small market team. Somewhere you have to take a gamble with a bigger payroll. If it doesn't work then you can probably move some expensive pieces. Yawn. Just because it keeps getting repeated, doesn't mean it is true.

The legal side of playing movies
It is technically a "public showing" which is illegal without proper compensation or permission. The one exception is movies which are in the public domain.

Sox GM Meetings
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 06:23 PM) They did the exact same thing with Gio. They knew how to get the most out of him, and didn't want to expose him by moving him up the organization, killing his value. Twice.

Sox GM Meetings
Jenks might be an interesting name if there is any fire in the Halladay rumor. The Jays could still cut payroll, and get a closer. It would also make the trade fit into the Sox payroll scheme.

Is Joe Crede Done?
That was the rumor. I don't think he will get much more than a minor contract offer this time around.

Javier Vazquez Shopped by Braves?
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 01:12 PM) I'd take him back. People say that Javy can't win big games. But he can certainly help us get to the big games. He's an innings eater. You have to get to the big games before you can win them. Not a chance. We need to spend the money in other places that it will make a much bigger difference.

What's next ?
QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 01:18 PM) According to the Worldwide Leader , MLB Rumor Central had an *idea* to trade Jenks for Milton Bradley. Let me repeat that *idea*...Jenks for MILTON BRADLEY! Here's the deal, if Bradley weren't an utter and complete headcase, I might like the move. Yes, it does create a hole in the bullpen, but it closes a hole in the line-up. BUT, just close your eyes and imagine an Ozzie/Milton clubhouse. Wow. That has the potential to get ugly. REAL ugly. Thanks but no thanks, ESPN. Yeah, that won't happen.

Sox acquire Mark Teahen, $$$ for Getz/Fields
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 12:22 PM) It would be more like A) Move Beckham to 2B, because Beckham is by far the most important player in the conversation B) Get Teahen C) Try to trade Josh Fields before we have to DFA him anyway prior to the Rule-5 draft I thought the first step was to cut a whole in a box?

Back Up Catching Options
I think it would be an ideal situation, I just don't see AJ being the type of guy to train his replacement.

Financial News
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 11:45 AM) We've spent an enormous sum through the initiative process. A very large fraction of the state's budget is required to be spend on education via Prop 98. The 3 strikes law was a proposition that has required a lot more spending on jails. Then there's all the small ones. The $3 billion for stem cell research. The Bullet train from San Francisco to L.A. After school programs. Mental health services. It's a long list, even in recent years. A lot of them are for good things...but the problem is that they become constitutionally mandated, such that even in the event of a budget crisis, the legislature can't override them, nor can it override Prop 13, the anti-property tax initiative. So the only thing the Legislature can do is crank up the sales tax, pull off gimmicks like closing all the state parks, or this higher withholding rate. They can take care of Prop 98 themselves.

Healthcare reform
QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 11:54 AM) Pelosi wasn’t the only one getting pressure on the amendment. As rumors spread that Republicans might vote “present” in order to scuttle the entire bill, even Cardinal Francis George, archbishop of Chicago and president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, called Republican leader John Boehner to make sure the GOP didn’t play any games with the Stupak amendment, sources said. Also interesting from the Catholics, was that they are now urging members of Congress to vote for this bill as is.... Mostly because I didn't see anyone wanting to take away their not for profit status for being involved in politics here.

Official 2009-2010 NBA Thread
QUOTE (dasox24 @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 11:44 AM) Exactly. There's no way Deng wouldn't start, so I think LeBron would essentially be our 4 (even if he doesn't have to always play down-low like a PF 'cause I'm sure he wouldn't like that). The Cavs have a small line up they use down the stretch of games where James is the PF.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 11:42 AM) Deng is 24 and showing signs of returning to his previous form. You could move him easily. Deng is the Bulls equal of Carlos Quentin. He has to stay healthy. When he does that, he is a very good player.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 11:08 AM) The problem is...the people can want anything, but there are consequences/tradeoffs that typically happen for things to happen. If you want better services, typically the trade is higher taxes. The initiative process though allows you to legislate higher services and lower taxes at the same time. How often has this happened out there? Most everything I have seen is rejection of taxes.

Shooting at Fort Hood
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 10:12 AM) Pretty much every two bit pundit is going to take something out of this, as there are so many hot button issues that can be pulled out of this (Muslim, Obama supporter, gun purchase, military activity/war, etc) and try to make himself look smart and prophetic. At the end of the day they are exploiting the deaths of 13 servicemen. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 10:15 AM) I assume he will be extradited and his detention and trial will be overseas since I was told that terrorists shouldn't be kept on our soil.
