LSU (Jared Mitchell) playing now on ESPN.
AJ Pollack is signed at #17 for $1.4 million, and the guy picked right after Mitchell signed for about one and a quarter million dollars. Hopefully that tight of a range means it won't take very long to get him into the fold.

6/26 games
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 08:17 PM) Hell, I'll have at it. Charlotte up 3-0 in the 6th. Marquez on the hill, 5 IP, 3 hits, 3 walks, 8 k's. B-Ham down 4-3 in the 4th. McCullough on the mound. No Viciedo tonight. W-S up 3-1 in the 6th. Rasner on the mound, 5 k's, 2 hits through 5. Kanny knotted at 2 in the 8th. Bristol getting hammered 7-1. Great Falls hasn't started yet. The Walks weren't pretty, but I will take the only three hits and no runs for Marquez. Anyone watch him pitch?

Gov. Sanford
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 08:25 PM) I could have swore that he was well out of the race before the story really started. Before it really started, sure. Because no one else would report it when he was really in the race. They just left it alone in the tabloids. That is kinda their point.

Gov. Sanford
QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 05:33 PM) My guess? Mrs. Sanford (who discovered the affair by finding a letter around the same time) When the Edwards story broke, could someone please tell me what state he was the governor of? When the Edwards story started he was running for President... of the United States. Everyone ignored the story at that time because it was in the Enquirer.

Gov. Sanford
QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 05:03 PM) I don't know about that. I think Edwards was raked pretty well over the coals. Not to mention, Elizabeth Edwards was all over the talk shows for a week or two with her new book and they did ask about it. Ensign hasn't been a huge deal. Sanford SHOULD be a huge deal. And not only that, what about Blago. Last I checked...Democrat...and he was all over the news for a LOOOOOONG time. So, really, lib media crapola just needs to go away. No one would acknowledge the Edwards affair for a long time. The only place that picked it up was the Enquirer until Edwards came clean.

ozzie
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 06:24 PM) I'd rather get a righty up to bat, as they hit .075 pts higher against Marshall than lefties do. We weren't going to get a righty up as the first hitter against Marshall.

ozzie
If you can get them to take their best reliever out of the game, you do it.

Cubs @ Sox 3:05 6-26
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 04:42 PM) Gameday calls it a slider. 85 mph, right after what gameday calls an 85 mph fastball. It wasn't s a slider. If it was anything it was a splitter that did NOTHING.

Cubs @ Sox 3:05 6-26
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 04:40 PM) What pitch did Soto hit out? High fastball.
-
Cubs @ Sox 3:05 6-26
Jose hasn't thrown a decent splitter since his back problem. He also hasn't gotten anything in the lower half of the zone. He is still hurting.

Cubs @ Sox 3:05 6-26
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 04:22 PM) Bradley threw a tantrum in the Cubs Dugout last inning and Pinella pulled him. Hmm, maybe that is the fire that they have been looking for?
-
Cubs @ Sox 3:05 6-26
Now we have to watch and see if he starts hanging the splitter. We know he can't finish if that is the case.

Time to move Alexei....
Alexei is the White Sox version of Tyrus Thomas. Someone just needs to punch him in the back of the head every once in a while to keep his attention.

Cubs @ Sox 3:05 6-26
QUOTE (ChiSox420* @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 03:46 PM) Jake Fox may be a better 3rd baseman then Fields... That isn't saying much. Fields ceiling is pretty much Russel Branyon.

Cubs @ Sox 3:05 6-26
Damn. That is vintage Contreras. Maybe we spent all of our money on a way back Machine for Pods and Jose this winter.

The "Ark of the Covenant" to be Revealed?
QUOTE (Soxy @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 01:22 PM) I mean, all snarkiness aside. Why? The point is that we're supposed to take this on faith. We're supposed to take on faith the covenant, the struggles of the ancient Israelites, the resurrection. Why do people want to have physical proof? It's just so contrary to my understanding of what faith is. You can't prove it exists, so why get all excited about some (probably fake) artifacts? The real Ark would kill people gawking at it. It makes it hard to take it seriously if it doesn't.

The "Ark of the Covenant" to be Revealed?
QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 01:10 PM) I just hope nobody tries to open the thing up and gets their face melted off. That's what I was thinking... Does anyone read the bible anymore?
-
Will they be selling the jerseys they wore yesterday?
The Sox lately have been auctioning these off for charity.

Cubs @ Sox 3:05 6-26
The Sox get to see a rookie pitcher they have never faced before, at home... Ugh.

Tidbits from Today's Winner Vs. Dodgers
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 12:50 AM) I actually wonder whether or not KW and therefore Ozzie are afraid to use Poreda in a key situation because they want him to put up some inflated numbers pitching in garbage time, raising his trade value. Anyways, all I see Ozzie saying in this is that Alexei needs to step his s*** up. He has big expectations for him, and he's not living up to them yet. Alexei's never going to be as good as Ozzie was defensively, but he can probably be an average shortstop. This is totally a Cooper thing. They do like to bring guys in at a specific pace, and if at all possible, set them up to succeed in as many situations as possible.

Interesting Oz quote about Gavin Floyd
QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 12:48 PM) FWIW, I put up a thread essentially giving Gavin props. I still don't understand how a guy can have a 7+ era for two months and then have a 1 era for the third. I'm also not sold that he's not the Rex Grossman of baseball, an extremely high variance headcase. He's Jon Garland. He has to be hitting his spots or else.

Healthcare reform
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 22, 2009 -> 03:28 PM) Some do, most don't. Offshore accounts, having two homes, one in which they live outside the country for a longer period of time than they live in it, things like that help them skate around a lot of tax laws and significantly lowers their tax rates in some cases. Statistically, that is a load of s***.

Healthcare reform
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 22, 2009 -> 02:24 PM) You can't just blame that on poor people. Rich people take advantage in other areas (i.e., taxes). How do rich people take advantage in taxes, when they are the ones paying the VAST majority of them?
