  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 07:58 AM) Definitely not, but it was still Chris' play, and he was still there to make it. This was not intended to be a dissection of that play, it was just one example where his hesitation and judgement show me that he's not mentally there right now on the field. As the player coming in on the ball, it is Anderson's job to tell Getz that he CAN'T get to that ball. He is the general on that play, not Getz.
  2. Here is my biggest problem with the idea that this is all Greg Walkers fault. Take the 8th inning yesterday. We had the bases loaded and one out, the only run we got was off of a walk. It wasn't Walker who couldn't lay off of a slider in the dirt, was Anderson and Getz. I blame the guys who are hitting.
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 06:10 AM) No it's not. Poreda has struggled with his control, and as far as I'm aware, hasn't done much but flash very good secondary pitches. He may be a step above Morton and Locke, he may not. I would rate Hernandez quite a bit higher Shelby, and I don't think it's far-fetched to believe that Locke is along the same lines as Hudson as a prospect. In the end, it all evens out. Soxtalk would have blown up giving up that much for, quite frankly, an .850 OPS CFer with bad defense. s***, Brian Anderson could be that next year, or Jordan Danks could be that come 2011. Which is exactly why we didn't give up too much for the guy.
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 07:50 AM) I was saying Anderson was a better choice than Pods a while back, because of Anderson's superior defense. But I admit, I apparently drastically underestimated what Pods could do offensively, and slightly overstated how bad he'd be defensively. He's better than BA right now, not much doubt in my mind. That pop up was about 10 feet into the outfield grass, Getz was right there, and Anderson was going in full speed and couldn't get there. It was Getz' play, he was actually in position, then started hesitating and looking around, and it dropped. The infield was drawn in on that play, so it wasn't nearly as routine as it would usually be.
  5. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 01:05 PM) Eh if you're talking to a local crowd that's probably a lot different than being on TV. I imagine being in national politics is a lot different, much more coaching and image management. Almost every speech Obama gives is to a local audience. He rarely gives a "national" speech.
  6. QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 12:46 AM) At this point, does it really matter? Is he really gonna just click? He hasn't done well this year at all. Seems like inserting another dull bat into the lineup at this point. But he definitely has the most potential. I'd rather him stay on the DL for as long as he absolutely needs. Even if its all year. I mean, because why would taking a guy falling towards the Mendoza line and replacing him with a potential MVP candidate change our line up at all
  7. We have the best record in baseball when he homer, and the worst when we don't. We can't get TCQ back soon enough. We also need to figure out the power problems of Alexei, Josh, and Brian.
  8. I don't think anyone should be surprised that Cleveland can hit. Its disappointing that we couldn't do more to hit them.
  9. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 12:55 PM) You would if you had a packed schedule and had professional speechwriters to do it for you. Actually I wouldn't. I hate prepared speeches. They slow me down and I spend more time reading than talking to the crowd. I hate having to follow a written speech.
  10. QUOTE (Texsox @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 11:49 PM) I always kind of liked Bush speeches during his first term. It seems like sometime during his second term that it broke bad for him. And I do a lot of public speaking and always have note cards with me. If I had the choice to have a prompter, I would. I'd be more upset about a President that didn't embrace technology/ I have done a fair amount of public speaking and ran for office. I have never once written a speech. I'll write some notes once in a while before hand, but I don't refer to them during the speech. Its just not my thing.
  11. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 10:15 PM) Puh-lease. Not counting todays game, he's averaging 107 pitches a game. If you're saying that he's been overworked, your crazy. Maybe his arm has gotten tired, it happens, but he hasn't been over worked. Also, he's still only 26, so his arm can handle a heavy workload (which really isn't heavy). He's been dominating in 90% of his games, there's no reason why he shouldn't have had a lot IP piled up already. For reference, Justin Verlander (who's the same age) has pitched in the same number of game, but in about 10 less innings. Yet, he's averaging 108 pitches per game. Is he being overworked to? PItches thrown is WAY more important than innings pitched. The guy had been incredibly effecient all year long, which is why he had piled up so many innings. Without giving up hits and walks, it makes your pitches go further. That IP per start number will come way down as his ERA goes up.
  12. WORK.THE.PITCHER. Even if we don't hit the guy, make him throw 5-6 pitches an AB and get into that God awful bullpen.
  13. QUOTE (ChesterCopperpot @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 11:29 PM) The Solution. Man I hope he is ready to go in a couple of days. We could use the 08 TCQ in this offense REALLY bad.
  14. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 11:17 AM) I still worry about character issues with Zambrano. The guy has an anger problem and a history of not getting along with teammates. I'm not convinced that even Ozzie could keep him under control. I also agree that $18 million a guy who has declined from a #1 to a #2 over the past four years is too much. Character issues is my number one problem with the guy. If you are looking at $18.3 million on average for five years, you had better KNOW this guy will be willing to go into battle and lead you over the hill, and not go AWOL.
  15. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 12:49 AM) We might see Jordan Danks sooner than people think. ALl depends on what happens this month. Danks needs to cut the strike outs WAY down. He would K 200+ times at the major league level right now.
  16. QUOTE (TLAK @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 09:31 AM) What's up with Alexei's mindset this year? He's made more bonehead plays already than I remember from all of last year. Bunting into 3 consecutive strikes (he is NOT showing he is a good bunter), barehanding grounders even though he has plenty of time, forgeting how many outs and getting picked off, sliding into 3B when he's supposed to score from 2B on a double? He really looks lost sometimes. He's thinking about something but it sure isn't the game. Next inning something snaps out of it and he is back, but I can't figure out the lapses. He did the same thing last year. The worst thing Alexei can do is be relaxed. That is when he starts to take a play for granted and does something stupid. Much like Jose Valentin, he is at his best when it is a tough play and he has to make it happen. Look no further than throwing Hafner out at the plate today. That was a webgem if I ever saw one. To make that play barehanded, and have enough on it, throwing off balance, to nail a guy at the plate was just awesome.
  17. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 11:14 AM) It's not like anyone expected Betemit to be a world beater, just a contributor. It's possible that Betemit might not even have made the team out of spring had Nix not gone down. I was hoping for something like a Juan Uribe contribution, even with the bat. We didn't even get that out of him.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 08:13 PM) You really think his arm is going to hold up for that kind of work load? He seems to mostly get the flukey injury, but nothing serious. Also being a bigger guy, he seems to hold up to the workload a little better. Also lets not kid ourselves, Ozzie isn't going to burn him up the way that they did on the northside. Ozzie really protects his starters.
  19. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 09:33 PM) Nice we finally decide to win but of course Detroit had to win as well... We have been really lucky not to lose any ground this week.
  20. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 05:44 PM) I ran on to mlb.com for gameday to see Jenks' last pitch. It said it crossed the plate and it wasn't all that close. It might have crossed the plate, but they weren't calling much better Floyd curves during the game.
  21. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 07:06 AM) If you wanted a comparable package, on possibly the low-end, it's probably something along the lines of Poreda, Shelby, and Hudson. Just gonna throw that out there. Soxtalk would have melted down if we traded that package for him.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 12:42 PM) A blogger had the idea of a 3 way trade between the Sox, Padres and Cubs. Since Peavy would go to the Cubs, if you were KW, would you trade the same package, although if Broadway was involved, it would have to be tweaked, and get Zambrano instead? In all seriousness, the only way I would touch Zambrano is if about half of that contract got picked up. He would be a solid middle of the rotation guy, who would give you spectacular games here and there, but he would also get you a solid 200 IP a year. I wouldn't want him at the ridiculous annual price tag though, as that wouldn't be worth it.
  23. Nice to see Joshua Fields Forever continuing his solid streak of hitting lately. It was really sweet to see him power one out to center, because he is way more dangerous if he isn't trying to yank everything into the pen. It was also great to see Gavin as the stopper. He was excellent today.
  24. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 11:08 AM) I was debating with a co-worker today that Will Ferrell's career is on the downswing. He is great in a secondary role, but horrible as the star.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 08:10 AM) Oelwien, IA is "meth land"? I knew Des Moines had big meth issues, but... Oelwein? Really? Small towns are ideal for meth labs. The less attention, the better. They are all over southern Il and In.
