Achoo! - Oink!
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 02:36 PM) Currently the WHO is not yet recommending any sort of travel restrictions (as was done with SARS as that outbreak developed.) Here's their reasoning: So stopping people who are infected won't help... Brilliant.

Arlen Specter to switch parties
QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 02:56 PM) Major? That was like a case of the sniffles. Well the deficit is about 6 to 7 times what is was when the Dems were campaigning against it.

Arlen Specter to switch parties
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 02:27 PM) That's the inherent problem with the GOP right now. Complete isolationism. If you dont 100% walk the party line, then we dont want you. This was the argument I put forward in the GOP Rally the Base thread I stated a while back. I think the more you try and narrow the funnel, the harder it is for you to be a viable political party. might as well just blow the whole thing up and start two new parties. This is really a debate for that thread, not this one. but you get my point. I'd happy call myself a republican if they would open up their umbrella beyond strict "Christan" values and analy-conservative fiscal and governmental size policy. With all due respect, that is a load of crap. I posted an article about the Dems targeting people who haven't followed the Obama agenda in Congress and supporting people to run against those incumbents. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 02:29 PM) And there is actually a PLAN to move forward and cut the deficit. It's short term hurt, for long term gain. Except the plan is based on wildly optimistic assumptions that have about zero historical chance of actually coming true. Ever stop and think how come no one stopped to apply the stress test to our budget, and not just the banks?

Arlen Specter to switch parties
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 02:16 PM) One could certainly argue that the economic conditions have changed from the period about 1.5 years ago. That sure didn't change Democrats opinion of the budget after 9-11. For some reason after a major Democratic recession and a terror attack on US soil we weren't supposed to be running deficits, because they sure as heck have used that as a major talking point ever since then. I take it things are different now?

Arlen Specter to switch parties
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 02:07 PM) Sullivan That kinda goes the other way too... The Dems who just a year ago were screaming about the debt and the deficit are now supporting trillion dollar deficits are far as the eye can see.

Achoo! - Oink!
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 12:58 PM) No one in the United States has died yet from contracting the disease. Hell, we all may be better off getting it now and building some resistance in the event it mutates. Although I'd have to believe, even if the mortality rate was 100% they wouldn't close the borders. You'd just end up with people illegally crossing to receive medical treatment, or something resembling a movie where border crossings become war zones between migrants and soldiers. Didn't someone within the government say something to the effect of "containment would do nothing" and "its already too late." Well, yeah -- that's what happens with viruses; they spread quickly. Especially those which have incubation periods of a few days. It proves to me if the worst were to occur and millions began dropping, we'd just be writing our own version of The Stand soon enough. The government wouldn't do s***. Just look at this swine flu and how quickly it seems to have jumped across the US. The belief is that the US strain has already mutated, down to a less lethal form. The real danger would be someone bringing in the more dangerous Mexican strain, which we aren't even caring about preventing. I can't imagine it would be too difficult to check people coming back from Mexico to see if they are having a fever, like they are doing in Asia, and then going from there.

Your tricks to maximizing your USCF experience
So lets hear it from the fans themselves. What are the things you do that make things better when you go to a Sox game. Is there a special street parking area that is free? How about a place to stop and eat before the game in the area? Is there a special vendor who hooks you up? Is there a section that offers the best view of the game? Spill your secrets!

I think the Hawks can hold their own against Luongo as long as we see the Khabi of the last two games. There will be a lot more open ice in this series which bodes well for our boys.

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (Cknolls @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 10:47 AM) I would like to know if the gov't. will track how many people lose their private health coverage when the Obama abomination passes. I'll venture a guess and say 50 million within 10 years. And that is probably optimistic. They know that. It also gives them the opening to "give" people health insurance down the road.

4/27 Games
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 07:37 AM) Cubano, I was joking. I think it's funny when people add vowels to the end of words and think they're getting Italian or Spanish somehow. The noun/adjective structure doesn't work as well, either. Titan de bronze would be Bronze Titan in English, not Titan of Bronze. Are you really giving a guy whose native language is Spanish, a lesson in Spanish?

Workout Tips & Tricks
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 25, 2009 -> 03:23 PM) Another tip for the runners who get into long distance. Its on your shoe purchase. Make sure that you get a good shoe, and make sure it matches your strike pattern and pronation. Pronation is how your foot rotates and distributes weight when it lands. You can get your gait analyzed at a running specialty store, and then make a better choice on your shoe. pronation means you fall to the outside of your foot. Supination means you fall to the inside of your foot. They do make shoes that correct both of these, though pronation is WAY more common.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 27, 2009 -> 02:03 PM) Brashear suspended 6 games. Ridiculous. He had one game coming automatically for making contact with a player during the pregame, which is what Andre Roy got suspended for during the Hawks/Flames series. Plus as a guy who has already had a suspension during this series, not to mention all of his other suspensions, going out and doing what he did ... well you get what you deserve.

Ozzie's vendetta continues....
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 27, 2009 -> 02:05 PM) I think this one was Cooper's decision, based on the fact there was so much resistance about developing David's offspeed stuff. What will undoubtedly happen is that Aardsma will do well for a couple of months in non-pressure situations, then he'll crack (not unlike Boone Logan) and just disappear mentally and not even seem like the same pitcher again for the rest of the season. Who knows, maybe he will just "find it" like Thornton did after one film session and day working with Cooper, but a reliever who doesn't throw 101-102 can't get away with just a fastball. Logan, Sisco and Aardsma are the three "strikes" against Cooper, but it's not like Boone stormed into Atlanta and became the closer there. I'll take the successes of guys like John Danks, Jose Contreras, Esteban Loiaza, and Gavin Floyd if it means failures like that bunch any day.

The Economy, stupid
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 27, 2009 -> 06:33 PM) I actually kinda like this move. The government gets a significant share in the company that can be sold off once the government-funded reorganization is complete, the shareholders and the bondholders get a huge hit, and GM starts to do the shrinking that it needs to do. It's better than dumping money down the GM hole like we're doing with all the banks. And they're giving the bondholders an ultimatum and trying to face them with legit bankruptcy. The bond market IIRC is trading at something like 10% of the value on GM, so they'd be getting a fair value for them. The issue for the last couple months has been that the bondholders have been demanding a better deal from the feds than they could have gotten had anything other than a federal bailout happened, which would be a terrible thing for the taxpayers to do. No big surprises there, the union who has run the company into the ground gets more of the company than the bondholders who actually have been keeping the company afloat. The government is going to have to do a lot of financing because they keep screwing over the people who can finance debt and deals in this country. Brilliant.

Achoo! - Oink!
The interesting thing is that the CDC admitted today they are doing nothing to stop it from entering the US anymore than it already has. They aren't testing anyone as they come into the country, they aren't even asking people about it. They also are not stopping anyone who could potentially have it from coming into the country.
