  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 12, 2008 -> 01:02 PM) "Too big to fail". http://newsbusters.org/blogs/tom-blumer/20...costs-uaws-conc
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 11:44 AM) Consumer retail sales dropped by 2.8% in October - the largest drop ever recorded. Yowza. Good news is, oil is down around $60/bbl on the economic weakness and dollar strength. Well, good news in terms of short term spending, anyway. Bad news for alternative energy. And those prices won't hold that low either, in the long run. Short-term I wouldn't be surprised to see them go under $50. Buy calls is all I have to say.
  3. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 11:27 AM) It appears as though Ozzie may get a bit threatened when one or more of his players displays a similarly boisterous attitude in the dugout/clubhouse. Obviously this is all speculation, but it appears as though he enjoys being the one and only center of attention.... I would say more accurately boisterous and lazy.
  4. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 11:01 AM) Saw this on MLB.com about Marquez and Nunez; The last paragraph on Nunez is the exact thing that Coop preaches. He could be an interesting darkhorse to this deal.
  5. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 09:54 AM) I think if the Cards were willing to deal Rasmus for pitching then they'd already have Peavy. Peavy has a full no trade clause. He might not have St Louis on his OK list.
  6. So he plays in Washington two or three years before forcing a trade to a team he really wanted to go to in the first place?

  10. QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 09:16 AM) Every few weeks? Every few days, she changed shells with the poll numbers. Sometimes she was more than one person at a time. This was a Clinton trait long before Hillary ran for President. Bill perfected this a long, long time ago.
  11. Wow I had no idea how highly rated the kid was. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/R/colby-rasmus.shtml

  13. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 08:12 AM) As much as I dislike her, I think she'd be a large improvement over Reid. Blech. Is death an option?
  14. QUOTE (Texsox @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 08:33 AM) damn, how soon I forget. The memory is the first thing to go...
  15. QUOTE (Texsox @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 08:06 AM) Post on a message board she may never see? hilarious, but possibly/probably wrong. There is some gray area. Post on her myspace page? Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. That is a classic taking a joke waaaay tooo far. I don't think the op on the body building forum had any idea it would get that big. Think of the thread starts here, non have gone that wide. Knock, knock. Who is there? Sports Illustrated.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 05:07 PM) It certainly seems to me like we're locked in to 1 of those 1000 point cycles right now, where we're bouncing between 8000 and 9000 and no one wants to cross either number until something much worse or much better comes in. So in other words, today's the day to sell! Its been more like 7900 and 9500.
  17. I found this pretty interesting. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,2316997.story
  18. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 03:23 PM) I know for a fact that 3 coaches absolutely hated Swisher and his act. I think I mentioned that a few weeks ago. One coach in particular. That doesn't surprise me at all. Ozzie doesn't bench his starters, and Nick was behind DWayne Wise. How much more is there to say?
  19. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 03:11 PM) Eh, two good prospects for Garland is better than the Type B comp we'd have gotten had we kept him. Not to mention we don't make the playoffs last year with Garland in place of either Danks or Floyd to start the year, and with Uribe as SS. To me, THAT is what wins the trade.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 02:56 PM) Anyone know stuff about Jhonny Nunez? http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/N/Jhonny-Nunez.shtml Stats...
  21. http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/11/13/jonestown...ies#cnnSTCVideo If you really have the ability to sit through it, the full 40 minute video on CNN.com is just powerful. Scary, creepy, but powerful.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 12:02 PM) If you think you are going to lose an all-star 2-3 years down the road because you won't give him a major league contract today, would you? Odds are pretty good someone is going to give him a major league deal, and that is agent is requiring one, along with the waiver of their rights to arbitration years. And according to this, that is what it is going to take to get Viciendo http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=jp-v...o&type=lgns
  23. QUOTE (sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 12:15 PM) Admittedly, I should read more. My comments are more out of lack of deep knowledge and a simple understanding of the subject, but found myself thinking about it the other day. I just think that no matter what side or belief you take, there'll always be some amount of conclusions you must jump to or faith you must take. I personally believe that there's one way given, but I don't need to push that on others and I don't think Christ calls us to do so. The movie "Jesus Camp" drives me crazy for that very reason. so, Is that why so many rednecks have like 20 kids? I'd call you a tool, but that would just be insulting my Craftsman
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 11:44 AM) He's 19. If he's under control for 6 years, he hits FA when hes' 25. In other words, you do a chunk of his development in AA and maybe AAA depending on how long he takes, and you're either trading him or letting him walk for nothing because you have to cut him and you don't even get draft picks. I haven't yet seen a 19 year old who's worth that. Maybe he is. But even the most highly, highly, highly touted 19 year olds wind up taking a couple years to grow in to their body and their "Potential". If someone's going to pay for his development and then let him walk for nothing, let that team take that gamble. It doesn't make sense for a team like the White Sox to spend 2-3 years developing a kid for a lot of money only to have him walk after they get barely a season out of him. If you think you are going to lose an all-star 2-3 years down the road because you won't give him a major league contract today, would you? Odds are pretty good someone is going to give him a major league deal, and that is agent is requiring one, along with the waiver of their rights to arbitration years.
