  2. We finally have hit the 21st century and created a Soxtalk.com facebook page for the site. I invited everyone I had in my book to join, but be sure to look it up and join in.
  3. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 10:09 AM) I would say that this is more Bill Clinton's behavior rather than Hillary. Hillary has actually been quite the good soldier. She even kept her campaign going WAY longer than she should have, giving the GOP much campaign fodder to attack Obama on. Bill has definately been worse though.
  4. QUOTE (shipps @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 10:05 AM) If you were really faced with that situation I guarantee you would go dickless. He has been that way effectively since birth anyway

  6. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 09:36 AM) Nothing there indicated to me that he actually wants McCain to win. I don't really know how someone could draw that conclusion from that. However, he has been sending subtle messages to the Obama campaign. Its not just that one piece. Its been the Clinton's behavior ever since it because clear that Barack was going to be the nominee. They have pretty well undercut him every chance they got, even when it didn't make any sense. Something like this is just another piece of that puzzle IMO.

  9. QUOTE (Texsox @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 08:34 AM) Ozzie needs to put on roller skates and call it the roller dome There is an idea. We could take them in a roller derby... http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/footb...,5348645.column
  10. So do you think there is still a rift between Clinton and Obama? I still think they want Barack to lose so Hill can run again in '12. http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/20...clinton-do.html
  11. QUOTE (Texsox @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 08:30 AM) I'm too busy to be miserable, but I wish Nuke would post more and Change his screen name to NukeMinny I'm really hating that team. I'll understand fans of the Sox and Cub, Bear Packer fans, UT and A&M fans long before I will understand fans of Minny and Sox. I'd settle for NukeTheDome. We are 1-7 there this year, and 7-2 at USCF against the Twins. Talk about home field advantage.
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 08:29 AM) Wow. OK, maybe I'll be able to stick with 670 the whole way. Thanks. If not, take this with you. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/cws/schedu..._affiliates.jsp

  14. QUOTE (Texsox @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 08:27 AM) Thank you Annie Why not. If we want to kill ourselves, we might as well be truely miserable before doing it.

  17. I wish I had some photoshop skillz, because I would have two things done... First I would take the Tribs pic of Vazquez from yesterday of him rubbing his head in frustration and put the caption "Nickels for Neuticals, don't let this happen to someone you know" and second I would be photoshopping Jermaine Dye and Jim Thome onto a milk carton with a caption about the Sox offense going missing, if found return to the Hubert H Humphrey Metrodome.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 10:03 PM) Why would you not watch this game? It's the most important game of the season. You've watched over 150 games to get to this point, and you're going to chicken out now? QFT.

  20. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 02:26 PM) If I'm a professor, I want the answer to the poli 401 question at the poli 401 level. If I'm a voter, I want a candidate who can answer above a poli sci 101 level too. It's not about sophistication or bulls***, its about knowing and understanding the actual issues. It's pretty clear that she doesn't. And that is an unmitigated bad thing. There is always this too. Just because she gives a 101 answer, doesn't mean she doesn't know it on a 401 level. You risk alienating a lot more people the more detail you get into. Its the same reason Obama stayed vague for the first year of his campaign, and ran for President after two years in Congress instead of 6. The less that other party has to pick apart of your record, the better.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 09:23 PM) I'm willing to believe you're right on that, and still say that the bailout as currently proposed is a horrid idea. First of all, doing it in one gigantic sum is a terrible idea. Secondly, structuring it in ways that we're bailing out foreign banks, we're bailing out banks that aren't in trouble, we're not getting anything in terms of quality assets for it is a terrible idea. Everything about this just stinks to me. I get this feeling from this whole proposal that it's like we've got a couple of bank robbers tearing apart a bank, and suddenly they hear police sirens in the distance so they decide to try to grab everything they can and get out as fast as they can before the cops get there. Congressman "Baghdad is like a Market in Indiana" Pence had another good one. That's what happens when members of Congress gets millions and millions of dollars from an industry. Both of these campaigns and Congress are so intertwined into the banking industry its no shock to me that the checkbook is open.
  22. I had never actually heard Barney Frank speak before last night, I am glad to see that Elmer Fudd still lives on, just a little more angry and partisian.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 09:01 PM) The good news with AIG was as a nation we still got that 80% stake in the company. Which means we can hold it, take some losses now, but once things settle, sell off the assets and make a profit on it. The real problem here is that the stuff we'd be buying with that $700 billion right now is basically worthless. We'd be trying to say that the government can better judge the value of that stuff to be high than the market can right now. We're not getting anything that has tangible value for it if we buy it at the inflated prices that are necessary to shut down the mess. There really is no difference between the worthless paper that makes AIG worthless and the worthless paper that makes the $700 billion worthless. Its the same commercial papers, just on a larger scale. We are getting the samething, just with a nameplate on the front door.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 03:54 PM) Here's the problem with that idea. The bailout is horrible policy. Most polls show people don't like it. The stock market is hurting but isn't completely in the tank. Most people aren't stupid, they realize this. They saw other bubbles burst like in 2001 and know that we didn't spend a trillion dollars bailing things out then. Polling data pretty well confirms that. There's no reason this needs to be done during the pressure of a presidential election. The Fed still has $200 billion or so in reserves left, if they genuinely need more the Congress can authorize a much smaller buyout package to tide things over a little while longer and buy some time. This is one instance where I say flat out f*** the polls. Sometimes there are more important things. I don't think people grasp fully what a collapse of the financial sector would mean for their lives. They do need to fix this. I don't know if the bailout is the right answer, but I have yet to see anyone come up with something better.
