For GOP only
To lots of people the messenger is more important than the message... Ron Paul wasn't exactly the easiest guy to vote for on the planet, and not all of his positions fell into the category I am talking about.

Canseco "introduced" Rodriguez to Steroid dealer
I'm still waiting for our apology to Soxtalk from SI regarding the Roger Clemens story...

For GOP only
Reading that about Paul just reinforces the belief that I have that American is ready for a third party consistant with small government and limited social policy. So many of those people exist, and NO ONE speaks for them.

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
These salvo's between Clinton and Obama are John McCains wet dreams. A lot of the dirty works that the Republicians would usually be doing, are being done for the, and they don't even have to have their names attached to it. I still can't believe they have let this go on as long as it has.

For GOP only
QUOTE(lostfan @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 10:23 AM) Correct me if I'm wrong here, but Congress is the one who sets budgets, not the president? I thought all the president does is approve or veto. In the rubberstamp era, it is nothing like that. The President tells congress the budget he wants, and his congressional lapdogs jump up and do it. It has been that way forever. Yes, technically you are correct, but in practice, the President is doing the leg work.

3/25 roster rumbles
With the 3-4-5 we have in the rotation the long man is a must. Even if his innings aren't great, we need someone who can give us innings to save the rest of the pen for what they are needed for.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 07:58 AM) I can't say I've seen anyone in here defend McCain by throwing the "He's a vet" card. People out there somewhere may be doing it, but, I don't see it as a pattern of any kind. At least not yet. And in any case, the fact that he is a decorated vet and a POW, I think does have some value for a President. It sure makes him the most qualified to talk about the troops and how they should be handled, which is one of the MAJOR issues in the war. It will be an odd election in the sense that none of the candidates has any executive experience, so it will be interesting to see which of them is perceived to be better in budgetary matters because there isn't a one of them who has done it before.

QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 05:35 PM) While I don't rule out for a second Obama winning this thing on his own, Reid might be talking about a superdelegate convention. Where the superdelegates vote before the convention, so the winner is known in advance. Ah yes, the Democrats standing for Democracy, except when it is their own party... If they are going to whine about the electoral college ever again, they need to do away with the superdelegates. Period.

Obama's Pastor
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 12:59 PM) I just find it odd that a Republican can defend Obama but Clinton just keeps trying to rip the party apart. When you look at who is involved... It doesn't surprise me at all. Hillary would run over Chelsea if it meant getting elected President.

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 08:42 AM) For me philosophically it is a tough question. The Fed bank does exist, and this is actually a banking situation. I really disagree with most of their handling of this situation so far on the consumer side, but agree with the liquidity they have been adding to the system. That is exactly what they are supposed to exist for. Where do you draw the line? That is where it gets interesting. I personally feel that the fed banks role is more of a macro role, related directly to banking. I do not think it is the role of the fed to look at stock prices and make decesions based on those commodity prices. I don't much care for what the fed has become in micromanaging things. I guess this is the evolution of all of our government over the past 75 years or so though. They are involved in our lives from the day we are born (health insurance, shots, get your SSN etc) to the day we die (medicare/cade, SSI, etc) so what is the difference if they control the economy while they are at it? It is kind of depressing. Actually I just found this, and it kind of sounds about like what I was trying to say... http://campaignspot.nationalreview.com/pos...zEzZjE0OTkxZDQ=

Obama's Pastor
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 12:32 PM) Clinton keeping Reverend Wright in the headlines. I find it funny that Mike Huckabee defended Obama but Clinton keeps trying to drag him through the mud. Why? Mike Huckabee seems to be at least a decent person.

More Spring Games? Oh, The Horror!
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 12:05 PM) Tribune reporting Sox could make their final cuts today, and said Hall was called into the office after the big organizational meeting, but he was back to pre-game practice shortly afterward. Maybe a DL stint? Interesting. I bet they are trying to trade him.

Bush's War
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 10:58 AM) Why is it that people constantly let Mr. Bush off the hook. "Oh, it was just Cheney and Rumsfeld, if Bush had it to do over again he'd know better". The dude still to this day defends the Iraq war as practically the greatest decision he ever made, at every opportunity to pull back he chooses to escalate the conflict, I haven't seen a shred of evidence that would convince me that if Bush had it to do over again, he'd be more open, more practical, or more dovish. He got the war he wanted with the people he wanted leading it. Honest question here... Has there been a President since Nixon who actually owned up to doing something (big) stupid or illegal?

Idea
Lack of writers with time to write is the big reason the front page has not been maintained. Most of the people who used to write have gone onto work, families, college etc, and just can't commit to doing it anymore. I am sure if we found enough people, we could re-create the front page again.

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 09:36 AM) The voters can be fined for this. Could prevent voters in future voting states to think twice. Its karma, and the pouting about it is hilarious. The democrats suggested and failed at doing the samething in Michigan, and no one seemed to think it was a bad idea then. Now because someone might have been successful at it, now it is a crime? That is too rich.

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 08:31 AM) I pretty much agree, and so here's the honest question: Should Bear Stearns have been allowed to go belly-up with no Fed interference? Your statement is pretty black and white, so I'm assuming your position is that the Fed should not butt in and economic ripples be damned. For me philosophically it is a tough question. The Fed bank does exist, and this is actually a banking situation. I really disagree with most of their handling of this situation so far on the consumer side, but agree with the liquidity they have been adding to the system. FWIW, we are trying to arrange a second softball/patio party with WSI this year. It is a great chance to meet people and play a killer softball game. Once we get details figured out, we will let everyone else know!

2008 Schedule
QUOTE(Soxfest @ Mar 24, 2008 -> 05:42 PM) Cubs NEVER have a schedule like this............Sox get the shaft every year! Ah yes the grand conspiracy to help the team that always sells out, at the expense of the team that rarely sells out... it makes sense to me!

2nd Base job
Personally I would rather see Ramirez get some minor league time seeing some junk-balling minor leaguers to work on his off speed hitting and his defense. Richar is obviously out of the equation right now, and Ozuna is best in a reserve role. By default that leaves Uribe.
