QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 08:54 AM) Ann Coulter of the left... except a little less hate, and a little more valley-girl grammar. Neither are worth our time or concern. I haven't ever listened to her, or Coulter for that matter, but if this is representative of what goes on in her head, I have no use for her either. All though a little irony in this situation is that some of the real whack job enviornmental groups have been known to commit really stupid illegal acts to further their cause. Personally I am waiting for someone to make the same comparision of a group like ELF on the right side of the radio dial.

Rhandi Rhodes = Ann Coulter of the left? Here is the audio clip, apparently Blackwater is buring California down so that they can build an HQ out there. http://s65.photobucket.com/albums/h219/pjc...ndi_rhodes1.flv

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 12:02 AM) Yemen free's USS Cole mastermind. Thanks Yemen! Hopefully we find out where he is, and impose the first penalty on him. From Death Penalty, to 15 years to free as a bird. Nice system. He did pledge his loyalty, what more do you want from the guy?

'Jena 6' update
QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 06:30 AM) Firstly, it wouldn't surprise me that the lazy, for profit, corporate media got a lot of this wrong -- because it is more about sensationalism, emotional involvement and a cheap bottom line for production rates to get the highest rating possible rather than actual substantive news (i.e. eating sugar vs eating spinach...how many people like to eat spinach when they could get candy?) Secondly, from Reason Magazine http://reason.com/blog/show/123167.html /throws a few more logs on the fire... What logs? He didn't really address the article's meat at all. He just basically laid down the race card, and that was it. That was a pathetic attempt at attacking the people instead of the facts.

QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 02:36 PM) then lets call it a charity and not a loan. as someone who "loans" money all day long to businesses, the lender isn't supposed to lose $ on each and every deal. why not just cancel out the loan all together, figure out how much $ kiva and paypal would be taking from me and just give it to the individual with no strings attached? Kiva is a 501 ©3 organization.

QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 02:17 PM) Romney wants to set federal student aid based on how useful your degree is to society. http://www.bostonherald.com/news/national/...ticleid=1038792 Seems like the worst idea, by far, from any of the candidates, and a lot of dumb s*** has been floated already. It would just result in colleges pumping out corporate drones and nothing more. It depends on what exactly he is talking about... Is he talking about giving more to teachers, police, firefighters, social workers etc? How about professions like medicine which require a whole lot more college years, and leave the students with a huge pile of debt when they are done? If that is the case, what is so bad about that? With the low pays that lots of societitally beneficial positions have, there are chronic shortages in those areas (think teachers and nurses for example) what would be wrong with encouraging those nobel fields? Now if he has another set of standards to base this stuff on, my reaction would be different, but I don't see what is so stupid about a plan like this on the surface. To be honest, it sounds like something that would usually come from the Democratic side of the aisle.

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 12:37 PM) Doesn't LaRussa have a Harvard law degree? As far as contract negotiations, the guys wanting to stay and come here is the first thing which I think is more Williams and Guillen than Hahn. The extensions worked for both teams and all appear to be fair. Depends on what you mean by "fair". A guy like Mark Buehrle could have taken more years and more money in this years free agent market. The Sox could have jumped at his first offer and signed him to a much bigger contract than he did end up signing.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 11:46 AM) I wish Frank would hang them up at the end of the year because it would be great for him to finish up with such amazing statistics. However, Frank has consistently had money problems over the past couple years and I would be stunned if he didn't stick around solely for the paycheck. Didn't he sign with Toronto over Oakland because they gave him a bunch of money up front?

Who ever gets the nomination is going to get a lot of money all at once, after they emerge from the pack. The field is so lame, everyone is waiting for a winner.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 11:37 AM) An interesting topic to touch upon today. The USA Today notes that basically since the beginning of June, there has been more than a 4 fold increase in the number of airstrikes taking place in Iraq. The article pens that the reasoning for this is an increase in the precision of U.S. bombs, but I for one don't really buy that. While there naturally has been some development, even with a smaller bomb, it's only as effective as the people deciding which target to hit. This article is worth pointing out then, for the quote from one of the generals, who probably let part of the secret out: As we've known since before Vietnam, one way to keep fighting a war but to cut down our own casualties is to use more airpower and cutback on ground forces. The problem of course is that no matter how smart your bomb is, if you're going after a group of people or a building with an insurgent, you still hit the people in that building or in that group. So if your goal was to say, produce numbers showing a drop in U.S. casualties, this certainly would be one way to do it. But it wouldn't necessarily be a positive sign for the endgame of the war. So how does this account for the drop in civilian casualties and the drop in violent attacks?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 12:49 PM) Dude, isn't it supposed to be at least on some level a charity? Do you really need that $.51 that badly? That's kind of what I was thinking. I think you are missing the point of the organization.

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Oct 24, 2007 -> 07:12 PM) According to Wikipedia, this is what the DREAM act would do. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DREAM_Act Its a nice way to take the "illegal" out of immigration the same way people have been trying to outlaw abortion and guns for decades. You just chip away at it little by little, and every once in a while pull out the sledgehammer and take a whack at it. If the whack doesn't work, you go back to chipping away again.

Tyrus Thomas: the joke
QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 09:52 AM) Limited mobility = understatement of the year. As stated on the Boers & Bernstein show a while back, the Bulls have cornered the market on big, slow white guys over the past quarter century. Dave Corzine, Will Perdue, Luc Longley, Bill Wennington, Jack Haley, Jared Reiner, Napoleon Dynamite, Ed Nealy, Mark Randall, etc. Just a giant suckfest is all.... Yeah, okay; he can hit ten footers. Good for him. He's basically a slower version of Malik Allen. The fact that Skiles is even toying with the thought of giving this guy meaningful minutes is just another example of how retarded he is. What's retarded is when a team basically clears the way to give you a job, and you can't even show up to practice with your teammates for the summer. Its also retarded when the #4 pick in the draft is getting shown up by the #49 pick.

eMail forwarding
QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 10:05 AM) Telephone company does it. Isn't that the same? If you switch companies, they shouldn't do it either. Seriously, explain to me why the burden should be placed on someone who is no longer getting compensated for their services?

eMail forwarding
QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 09:45 AM) The same was true of snail mail, yet we found value in forwarding. Snail mail forwarding is much more costly than email forwarding. Why shouldn't our emails be considered on the same level with our telephone number and snail mail address? I believe, for most of us, our email is more important than at least one of the other two. You are also forgetting the big obvious difference between the two... One is run by the government, one is run by public industry. Once you leave as a customer, why should it be up to a for profit entity to take care of you? Are you willing to keep paying them for this extra service, until which time you quit forwarding? If the answer is no, it shouldn't be their burden.
