  1. He would be a good pick to be a darkhorse in the early primaries. He seems to be able to motivate people like few others can do. Obama seems to be the guy on the other side of the aisle with the same gift.

If the concern is E-bills, go in and change your email address in your account. It is really simple.
  3. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Oct 24, 2007 -> 04:29 PM) I have an innocent yet what I feel is valid question. Why doesn't Hahn get any of the blame for the failing of the team. Was he not the Asst GM of a terrible $100M payroll...... BTW, I like Hahn and think he did/does a great job. For those 80's/90's Bears fans, Hahn seems to be the Ted Phillips of this organization more than the Jerry Vanisi (sp?) but I could be very wrong. I think because of everything I read, Hahn doesn't get the blame. He is the guy who is primarily responsible for contract negotitations and initial contacts for potential trade partners. The biggest Sox failings, such as the farm system, aren't stuff that falls under his umbrella. When you look at the things have have been attributed to Hahn, he has done a damned fine job. Seriously think about the contracts he got for guys like Konerko and Buehrle, not to mention the initial AJ, Iguchi, and Dye deals. He does a great job of signing guys to marketable deals.
  4. QUOTE(ChiSox_Sonix @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 07:45 AM) ...IF he keeps his .300 BA that is It could be interesting. Assuming 500 ABs, (which might be optimistic....) If he hits .280, he would be at .3015 for his career If he hits .270, he would be at .3009 for his career If he hits .260, he would be at .3003 for his career If he hits .250, he would be at .2998 for his career
  5. New Hampshire polls... http://nh2008.blogspot.com/2007/10/ron-pau...bee-in-new.html Ron Paul is ahead of both Thompson and Huckabee, unfortunately Romney is leading the pack.
  6. This is the kind of deal you really can't judge for a few years. You have three young pitchers involved, which might make the trade an even longer term thing to evaluate. Personally have dealt with the junior and elder McCarthy's, I hope both teams win this trade.
  7. If they want to do something about decency on TV, they could cancel 90% of the crap that is on the air right now!
  8. I've never ate Salsa, I have no interest. I've never been to Wrigley Field, and never will. I've never been in the Sears Tower legally. I've never been to Canada without commiting a crime, or having been suspected of commiting one.
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 24, 2007 -> 04:02 PM) The social security shortfall is so tiny and so far out that virtually any change that doesn't cost the system money (i.e. private accounts) fixes the problem on the infinite horizon. Raising the cap on what income level counts towards SSI taxes does the same thing, as does having a slightly higher growth rate than the conservative estimate predicted by the Social Security trustees. "So tiny"? Alan Greenspan has been quoted multiple times about the scope of the SSI shortfall. I specifically remember him mentioning the number $10 trillion of shortfall. Actually pulling up his testimony it is $10.4 trillion (estimated of course) I'd hardly call that "tiny". And no offense, but I am going to listen to Alan Greenspan over pretty much anyone else alive when it comes to concerns of the economy. The link is his March05 testimony to the US Senate. http://www.federalreserve.gov/boarddocs/te.../2005/20050315/
  10. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 24, 2007 -> 09:21 AM) Trib reports that Hahn was kept out of many discussions at the organizational meetings because of his being recruited for other jobs. Secrecy and all. Sounds to me like they think he is likely to leave. To me that is the most serious sign yet that they expect a deal to be done.

  12. Yeah I can't imagine why people would get the idea that some people would exploit the global warming debate for their own gains and profits... http://www.drudgereport.com/flash6.htm
  13. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 24, 2007 -> 11:03 AM) Yup. Of course, the team's payroll has been huge for years now (compared to previously), and all these luxury add-ons are one of the reasons why its possible. Catch 22. By the way, one great way to get closer to the players for cheap is going to Spring Training games. Only problem is having to fly out there. Hmmm... Figure if you go cheaper on Southwest or something, you can get to Tucson for $200 or less RT. Add in two inexpensive hotel nights, that's another $150. Maybe even with the airfare and hotel its actually cheaper to do Spring Training. The money from this weekend does not go towards the payroll. The procedes from Soxfest go to Chisox Charities. Yeah its nice to raise money for charity, but with the prices at the ballpark, it would be nice if there was something left for the non-rich fans out there.
  14. QUOTE(YASNY @ Oct 24, 2007 -> 01:41 PM) Agreed. I don't see how anybody can justify the performance of either party. They are both being controlled by the same puppeteer. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
  15. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Oct 24, 2007 -> 01:09 PM) Insane. When the President has a 25% approval rating, and Congress is at 11%, it accurately portrays people's view of the current policital enviornment.
  16. QUOTE(YASNY @ Oct 24, 2007 -> 12:52 PM) Give Obama about 8 years and he may be a qualified candidate. He's not at this time. In eight years he will have too much of a voting record to be a viable candidate. They will take it apart and use it to rip him apart.
  17. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 24, 2007 -> 12:53 PM) Yes, presidents have been one-upping each other for a long time. In other words, you just admitted my exact point; the Bush Administration has one-upped the Clinton administration. In fact, I'd say that the last time it went the other way was back in the 70's right after Watergate when we realized how big of a disaster we'd had. From that point, we've gone through Reagan with Iran Contra, Bush the 1 following it up, Clinton with another step, and then Bush just topping it off. Just because Clinton did it too doesn't make what GW Has done ok. Nor does the fact that GW did it too make what Clinton did in cutting off access to documents and cutting openness good either. But until we actually demand things from the Congress regarding openness, and not just cower in fear and completely capitulate to the President every time he says terror, no one is ever going to see those documents or ever learn a damn thing about how this government is running. Now that would be a much better post. I also have no doubt that we will either get 4 more years of either the samething, or 4 years of "VAST RIGHT WING CONSPIRACY" after every time they get caught doing something wrong, or streching their power. Its not going to change.
  18. Fred Thompson's social security plan is out as well, and it also interesting. Essentially he wants to unpeg benefit COLAs from wage inflation, to price inflation. The difference would supposedly make a tax hike unnecesary, and while some call it a "cut" in benefits, it still would be a true cost of living adjustment every year. http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/TheNote/sto...6350&page=1
  19. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 24, 2007 -> 12:40 PM) The matchups: Hillary Clinton, 45% Rudy Giuliani, 35% Stephen Colbert, 13%. Hillary Clinton, 46% Fred Thompson, 34% Stephen Colbert, 12%. Yes, this is a national poll. And Stephen is in double digits. Is this a poll of likely voters?
  20. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 24, 2007 -> 11:46 AM) No, I wasn't that naive, and that's the point. It should never have been allowed to get to this point at all, but with that classic combination of the Republicans controlling every house of Congress for 4 years and the constant calling of anyone who spoke out against their actions some version of the word "Traitor", this is where we wound up. You think that those warrantless wiretaps and that surveillance apparatus that winds up with people who speak out against the war unable to get onto airplanes isn't going to wind up hurting pro-GOP folks someday? We're going to be stuck in the mess GWBush created for a long, long time, and I'm not just talking about Iraq. Oh puh-lease. Acting like GW is the first President to do this is naive all by itself. Presidents have been one-upping each other for a long time, and if the promises/preformance of Congress is any indication of what a Democratic Presidency would be like, I really don't see that changing.
  21. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Oct 24, 2007 -> 10:21 AM) The White Sox mailbag speculated they'd try to keep Bourgeois in the organization and perhaps offer him a minor league invite to camp. I don't see why they just don't put him on the 40 man, it seems stupid to me. Maybe there's something I'm not seeing but he looks like a sparkplug type to me and he can play multiple positions. I wonder if they see him as some AAAA player, kinda like Bajenaru was?
  22. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 24, 2007 -> 12:18 AM) If he's capable of playing SS, Alex Cintron shouldn't come near the 2008 team. I'd love to see a scenario where Bourgeois makes the team and Mackowiak is (cheaply) brought back, but I'd bet on the Sox going with the old-and-busted (Cintron + Erstad). Cintron won't be back with teh Sox next year, I would almost bet on it.
  23. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 24, 2007 -> 11:23 AM) I was mixing groups in that post. For any voter, if they require "proof", I doubt they will vote for that candidate. You don't require proof to decide what candidate to vote for? What do you use then? The biggest smile? The best commericials? The biggest promises made?
  24. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Oct 24, 2007 -> 10:44 AM) I just don't get the complete hatred you have for him. I'm by no means a fan of his but you make him out to be the worst human being on Earth. With some of the stuff I read here on a daily basis about people, I can't believe you are asking that!
  25. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 24, 2007 -> 10:41 AM) Yea, because I'm sure he's some nutjob wacked out Republican and all. GMAB. Edwards is a class pig. Period. Well you already have the "rabid republician" part down, if you got a gun, he wouldn't talk to you anyway.
