Joe Torre?
QUOTE(greg775 @ Oct 8, 2007 -> 11:40 PM) He should resign after the game and beat George to the punch. Obviously he has a job next year if he wants one. Obviously he's rich and even can have a TV gig if he wants one. Girardi to the Yanks? Mattingly? Does Joe Torre have anymore years left on his contract? If so, don't quit, take every penny of Stein's money.

Razor Shines....
QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 8, 2007 -> 10:10 PM) http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune....hes-corner.html Looks like we found his replacement. Lacheman would be a much better bench coach than 3rd base coach.

Trading Fields and/or Danks for a star
Cabrera has some nasty little red flags going up around him. There are already rumors about his commitment to baseball, and fears that a big contract could be the beginning of a large decline for him.

GOP Primaries/Candidates thread
It will be interesting to see if the national race is effected by an Iowa upset. The strawpoll was supposed to change things, and it hasn't really done much.

TBS
I still don't believe no one has paid Steve Stone an assload of money to become the face of their broadcasting team. He has got to be one of the best in the business. He made Hawk sound 10Xs better for the few days he was in the booth this year.

Tomohiro Nioka
Interesting. Its seems the homers do not translate over, but if he plays defense and can hit for a decent average, we could find a place for him.

Gooch keeps Sox in mind
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 8, 2007 -> 02:29 PM) Career Splits: April/Mar. .294 .342 .453 .795 May .231 .277 .348 .625 June .246 .283 .408 .691 July .205 .256 .351 .607 August .249 .282 .417 .699 Sept./Oct. .295 .332 .560 .892 Clearly, we have to keep Uribe. He's the only guy we have who can hit in the cold! Hmmm.... Uribe is acting too white? Lets ask Dusty Baker!

Films Thread
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Oct 8, 2007 -> 12:12 PM) Watched "Happiness" over the weekend. What a disturbing film. Did not leave me feeling happy. The Pursuit of Happyness? That was one of the most unintentionally depressing movies I have ever seen. Its one thing to be depressed after say Schindlers list or Hotel Rwanda, its another after this movie.

New Television season
QUOTE(vandy125 @ Oct 8, 2007 -> 12:32 PM) It was pretty interesting, but I really don't know what to think of it yet. I thought that it was pretty fun, and it could be a very good show. But, I am waiting to see where they go with it. The premise sounds interesting, but I haven't sat down and watched it yet. Two more shows that have gotten off to good starts this season are House and Bones on Fox.

Stupid network question
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Oct 8, 2007 -> 01:05 PM) Some asshole saving the file wrong? I can see the file and get into the file. No one else is in the file, and when I open it up, it shows up as read only instantly. I have to save it as something different to save my work in it.

Stupid network question
What would cause a file on a shared network drive to go into a "read only" state besides someone else having the file open?

Media Matters claims to be 'unpolitical'
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 8, 2007 -> 11:54 AM) So basically, you want every single organization in the U.S. who acts in any political way or who passes along any information to the public removed? So that an election would be basically 100 million people voting for 2 guys they know nothing about and choosing based on how they like the spelling of their names. Hmmm.....at least we know it couldn't turn out worse than the way things have gone with the media actually existing the last 8 years. I'm all in. Heck I thought we were playing GMs with organizations that hide behind "objectiveness" If we were making a trade, I wanted to make sure we got value. And your last sentence is ooooo true, except I would expand the time frame.

Gillespie Chevrolet
QUOTE(The Critic @ Oct 8, 2007 -> 11:18 AM) The effect it has on me is "avoid Gillespie Chevrolet at all costs". Its effective if you buy a car there... Which there is no chance in hell of actually happening.

Media Matters claims to be 'unpolitical'
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 8, 2007 -> 11:08 AM) Just like ALL of the other 501©'s out there. I'll make you a deal. We'll give up Media Matters if you give up the NRA, the Heritage Foundation, the CATO institute, etc. Sure if you throw in movon.org, the labor unions, the network news, etc.

New Television season
QUOTE(Brian @ Oct 8, 2007 -> 09:29 AM) I don't think it was that bad. If the guy isn't dead and starts stalking them like "I Know What You Did Last Summer", than I will agree with you. If that would have happened, I don't think I would ever watch the show again

New Television season
QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 11:21 PM) I liked Back to You and Kitchen Nightmares on FOX. Also, loving the Sarah Silverman Program. Eagerly awaiting I Love New York 2 for some reason, and the Salt N Pepa Show and Project Runway. Morning radio broke me of good TV. Just bad reality fare for me thank you. I've tried to watch Silverman a couple of times, and just cannot make it through a segment. Sometimes being outrageous just isn't funny, and to me, this is one of those times.

New Television season
QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 10:33 PM) Exactly my thoughts. Obviously they're trying to make it edgier to see if the ratings improve, but it got away from the fun of the show. agreed. This weeks episode was terrible. The whole accidently-killing-the-stalker-and-throwing-his-dead-corpse-off-of-a-bridge thing made me turn the show off.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 03:34 PM) I just caught Weeds for the first time this week. I need to rent th DVDs of seasons 1 and 2 if they are out. Mary-Louise Parker is MILF Numero Uno. Shouldn't you be onto GILFs at your age?

Stat of the Day/Lineage of third base coaches
I'd love to see Pudge as a bench coach, but he seems to have no interest in coming back into baseball.

2007-2008 NHL Catch All Thread
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 7, 2007 -> 04:18 PM) It would take more things to go right but it's certainly possible. Among those... - Toews and Kane have to be pretty good. They don't have to be Crosby/Malkin/Crosby good, but they have to be pretty solid. Toews/Kane/Ruutu may technically be our second line, but with Havlat out, the most talent is on that line. Speaking of the third guy on that line... - Ruutu has to take the next step. I think he's gotta focus more on becoming a goal scorer than a big hitter. Take the hit when it's there, finish your checks, but don't go out of your way to look for a hit. Without Havlat, he has to be the team's best finisher. With Kane and Toews he's going to get the puck whenever he wants it where he wants it (i.e. right on the tape, on three feet behind his skates). He's gotta stay healthy and score goals. - The defense needs to start to progress. I think Johansson, Sopel and Wisniewski should be fairly reliable 4-6 types. I don't like what I've seen so far out of Vandermeer -- he's slow and his physical-ness doesn't make up for his lack of speed. Seabrook needs to keep improving and Keith needs to stop making so many stupid turnovers. He can fly when he has the puck but in his own end he's gotta be a little smarter. - Khabibulin is going to need to have his best year of his Blackhawks career. We've played 125+ minutes of hockey against two very good teams. Unlike past years, we've been able to keep up with these teams -- no longer do I feel like any given night against a good-to-great team will be a loss. We're still out-talented most nights but the discrepency isn't anywhere near as big. We've also played both these games without two top-six forwards (Ruutu/Toews and Havlat/Toews). Maybe I'm overrating Toews but I tend to believe his addition to the lineup will be huge -- it pushes every center down a line save for Lang. That relieves Perrault of some of his scoring duties and let's him play a more defensive role. Only two games but so far, so good. The big thing there is that Tuomo has to be on the ice for 70+ games. No more missing two months for injuries.
