Sox sign Toby Hall
I would just like someone to explain to me how you get adjusted to MLB pitching in Charlotte? There are somethings that another year at AAA, just doesn't teach you, such as the speed, nuances, and intensity of the MLB game. Ryan Sweeney could stay in AAA until 2010, but there is still going to be an adjustment period when he hits Chicago. Heck look at Joe Crede, he was MVP of AA and AAA, and he still took 4 years to put together an entire solid season at the MLB level.

Happy Longest Night!
QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 02:13 PM) has anyone ever stood eggs up on their end at spring equinox? LMAO! One of the funniest stories I remember from HS, and this is a true story. In our econ class, my senior year of HS, a girl in class (who happened to be in the top 10) saw a picture on the wall of the classroom of multiple eggs standing straight up and down with no one holding them. The girl then asked the teacher how they did it. She told her that they did it on the Equinox. The girl pauses for a second, and then asks "Where is that at?"

QUOTE(Jimbo @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 01:19 PM) Duke takes on Gonzaga tonight. Ravio should make Paulus look like a fool tonight. How is that Duke does not go on the road until Jan 10th?? I dont count MSG as a road game, since its like their second home. LMAO! hearing a Kansas fan complain about scheduling is like listening to a Red Sox fan complain about payroll dollars.

The Problem with Illegal Immigration raids.
QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 12:38 PM) Southsider, Nowhere in that article did it say that Swift was hiring at the same wage. My wager is that Swift just upped their pay a few bucks an hour so that they'd attract legal workers. Imagine that, American's want jobs that they can support their families with... Here is a silly thought, maybe we wouldn't need a minimum wage if we didn't allow half a million new illegals into the country every year? Maybe then we wouldn't allow corporations to artificially keep wage levels down, and we wouldn't need the government deciding living wages. But then again the wages are a secondary point. Its the actual jobs that are the point. I never hear that illegals do jobs American's don't want to do AT A HIGHER WAGE, the mantra is always they are jobs American's don't want, which is a load of crap IMO. All things being equal, a company would hire an illegal over a native anyday, even at the same wage, because they know they have absolute control over them. Do you think an illegal would file a complaint with OSHA? or start a labor union? Or file a lawsuit again their company? Of course not. If the company didn't think they would get caught, they would totally take the employee that they had complete control over, even if their were qualified, legal, interested workers at the same wage point.

Oh that's right, I forgot the name Bill Clinton got mentioned... Silly me, he could have never screwed up anything. I am sure there was no reason why his former aide was removing and destroying documents or anything. It had to be just coincidence. *yawn*

true or false
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 10:58 AM) I'd contend that, the older you are and the more you are around baseball, the less likely you are to be one of the people on this board who makes every move out to be either genius or disaster. We've made some small improvements thus far. Others could be, and may still be made. But right now, we are indeed a little better off than we were at the end of the season. ^^^ I agree 100%. Usually people get perspective with age.

The Problem with Illegal Immigration raids.
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 10:57 AM) At least based on the charges coming down from the government, I don't think "a lot" is the correct term. Over 1200 were swept up, and only about 50 or so have been charged with anything other than immigration violations. The report from the feds originally said that around 60 had actually done so. Not a zero number, but certainly not a gigantic ID theft ring. 50 people out of 1200 isn't a ID theft ring? Its not like we are talking about one or two people here. That is a pretty significant number, especially if those numbers are replicated in other places around the country. Each of those stolen IDs is potentially someone else's life who is being ruined. For me this incident is finally starting to blow the lid off of some of the stereotypes associated with illegal immigration, such as... no American's want these jobs, and they aren't bothering anyone etc.

Flying Under The Radar
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 10:40 AM) Yeah, the old place is Comiskey when it opened in 1991, w/out the insane upper deck. It's just a block of cement with seats; there's no character in it. The sketches of this new stadium look cool, and though this city fears anything that has to do with change, this would be a great thing for this place moving forward. I remember the fight over the Jungle expansion quite well... Lawsuit central. Yeah, I don't miss NE Indiana at all.

Flying Under The Radar
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 10:24 AM) Believe it or not, Fort Wayne. It's been talked about all year about revitalizing the downtown, and moving/rebuilding a stadium's been the biggest idea. It's still not official or anything, but they just issued the sketches and everything yesterday. Supposedly if this all goes through (it needs to), it will be ready for opening day of 2009. good for them, because the old place was terrible.

Soxtalk gift list
In the spirit of Christmas, I though this could be a fun thread. What you are supposed to do is pick Sox players, organization members, and/or posters on Soxtalk, etc and if you had the ability, the gift you would give to that person/those persons... For example... for Texsox a one way trip to Anchorage in January... for PA a fastforward to the wedding night...

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 09:16 AM) Short term, they do. Long term, you're right, which is exactly what we're doing. Seriously, if Iran were to stop selling oil tomorrow, their government would collapse before our economy would. I'd bet money on it.

For GOP only
QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 09:12 AM) Obstruction of justice is not too much of a stretch here. The problem is that they would have to find the documents, which are potentially destroyed, which would have given a reason for something to hide. Proving a reason for the obstruction becomes hard without a smoking gun document.

The Problem with Illegal Immigration raids.
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 08:24 AM) Reading that article, it seems in this case that this was more about rescuing the community and the company than the fact that immigrants were somehow blocking others from jobs. So people with better jobs were heading down to the meatpacking plant to try to get worse jobs just to save the plant? I really have a hard time buying that, especially since the article mentions the company raising wages in the same article. If they were attracting enough attention based on either saving the plant, why would they need to pay people more money to do so? That is kinda contradictary IMO.

Danish art group slips a crack at Amenenawhosits in Tehran paper...
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 08:46 AM) They have us by the balls and they know it. No they don't. Iran knows if they were to quit selling oil on the world market (technically we don't buy oil directly from Iran, we buy it from other OPEC nations, while Iran sells to everyone else) the tenuous hold that the Clerics hold over the people would disappear, because the rich elites would collapse. They know they have to sell oil to stay in power. If we really want to disassociate ourselves with the problems in the middle east we need to do everything we can to pump them dry, that way we HAVE to find an alternative energy source to fuel our economy, and we go back to caring about the middle east like we do subsaharran Africa... I.E. not at all.

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 08:36 AM) Well, Iranian Oil Ministers are beginning to publicly say that they dont have the kind of investment they need to fund their oil and gas programs.... So I'd put the over/under at 75. Yet they have the money for a much more expensive nuclear facility? Ah, it just keeps getting better. Damn I can't wait for $5 a gallon gasoline.
