  4. The site is back up and running. Please check and make sure because some old registrations did carry over. Also please be patient as we are manually approving each new registration, so it might take a while, as we can't check them all of the time.

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Jan 4, 2007 -> 09:11 AM) because they're more likely to enjoy fiction? I would think history buffs would pass out from all of the false logic and assumptions that the movie/book makes. Even if you buy into "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" it wasn't very historically accurate.
  8. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 05:59 PM) We're not arguing teams, we're arguing sports. It's also really not that fair to compare MLB atttendance's to NFL's. If the Sox or Cubs played only 8 home games a year, they sell out. Easily. Look at the coverage the Sox and Cubs get when they play each other. They broadcast 2 hours of BP on comcast now. Bingo. I highly dount the Bears would draw 67K to every home game if there were 81 of them. The Bears also have by far the highest ticket prices in town too. If they cost what a baseball game cost, their attendance would also be much higher over the course of a longer season too. The Bears also get 3 hours of pregame on their radio station, the game broadcast and then 3 more hours of post game for each game they play. It doesn't even have to be a rival game. You are getting about 9 hours of coverage on just their station, not counting all of the stuff on stations like comcast.
  9. Welcome to the site
  10. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 06:06 PM) To be fair, running for the most powerful position in the world probably requires a slightly more in-depth look into a person's background than running for the governorship of Texas, the House, or the Senate. Also to be fair, I think most Senate races look at the canditates a little closer than the "examination" Obama got during his run. Because of the carpetbagging nutcase he ran against, he pretty much got a free pass into the Senate. Trust me, something like that would have been used against him, even in a school board race.
  11. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 4, 2007 -> 01:06 AM) When it first came to America though, it was much more rampant among the gay community than the straight. And there is no denying that..... If I am remembering my stats right, today it is much more of a minority disease than anything else...
  12. QUOTE(NUKE @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 04:38 PM) I wonder if they'll give him the same amount of s*** for doing cocaine as they give Bush over the unfounded rumors he did cocaine. My guess is no. The memoir has been around 11 years, that kind of answers that question...
  13. QUOTE(Dan @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 05:23 PM) its just a username. who cares. ...says the guy who took the time to reply in the thread...
  14. Obama the "junkie". Tried cocaine amongst other drugs according to his own memoir from 11 years ago.
  15. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 12:50 PM) Cornholer2k7? That is the answer for the question, what is the most requested name on TalkCubs.com
  16. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 12:42 PM) Actually, I'd argue that the LESS you pay judges, the more corruption becomes an issue. Because even those with the best of intentions still live in the world of money. See: cops. Lowest paid major city PD in the US? New Orleans. Most corrupt department in the US? Same. I'm not arguing for them to be paid less, I am arguing that they deserve COLA consideration. I also don't think that just because some scumbag lawyers can make seven figures chasing ambulences, that judges should do so also. Positions of public service have always historically paid less, than there public sector counterparts.
  17. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 11:04 AM) So I'll admit I'm a little torn by this. Yes, you are correct, you don't enter the legal profession as a judge to make money (even though the couple hundred thousand a year would make most people drool), you do it because you're willing to sacrifice a little in salary for other things. On the other hand though, Roberts' argument does have some persuasiveness. These judges can go from making 6 figures working as a judge to making 7 figures working as a lawyer. In other words, there's very little economic reason for them to stay as a judge. So, if the salary for judges doesn't at least have some ability to rival the salaries people would make in the private sector, wouldn't it stand to reason that there would be a lot of problems in keeping judges on the bench, problems that long-term could lead to real personnel shortages? To be honest, I don't want people who are motivated by money in our judicial positions in the first place. That just begs for corruption to happen. Like I said, I have no problems with setting them up with raises and such, and would much prefer that it was a COLA system to ensure fairness, and the lack of politics to be involved with it.
  18. Did anyone actually ask about Buehrle's future here?
  19. QUOTE(wsxkid @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 09:11 AM) A new poster here,Hello everyone. If we find a decent 5th starter I think we have a good chance to make the playoffs.I do believe our SP will rebound from last year. But if Beurles goes out and rights his ship,KW made me believe that he is gone.I was hoping to keep him and Garland around for a while to help these young arms. Welcome to Soxtalk!
  20. You don't take a job as a judge because of the salary. If you want to make money in the legal profession, there are plenty of other ways to do so. Now I do believe they deserve adequate compensation, but anytime you take a job working in a public service type sector (teacher, police, fire, public office etc), money should not be a motivation. I do believe a COLA is in-line with what the rest of government employees should get, and in many cases, do get.
  21. Wow. Thanks for the info
  22. WTF is wrong with a COLA? Is it only good for people on welfare and SSI?
  23. You can thank all of the little bastard pimple faced assholes who have nothing better to do than to hack websites. I guess they could actually go get real jobs and move out of mom's basement, but what fun would that be? We are working on getting a newer version, but unfortuntely that isn't cheap.
