  1. QUOTE(Brian @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 09:56 AM) I'm torn on this. By Briggs, I assume you mean Lance Briggs. That said, if it was the offseason, I would of seen why people would be upset Urlacher left like that. But it is the middle of the season, he is beat up and hurt, and any rest time is rare for these guys. Hwould of been better off not showing at all if he was gonna upset people by leaving like that. He;s got the foot injury too, which that has got to be really uncomfortable to bowl in...
  2. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 09:21 AM) Thabo is head and shoulders a more talented player than Duhon IMO. Being 6'6" sure helps too.
  3. Nice poll Unfortunately I regret to announce that due to the discriminatory constitution of the United States of America, I cannot run for President in 2008 because of the age-ist laws prohibiting anyone under 35 from being the leader our fine nation. But look out in 2012 OH yeah, I did want to throw out there that the first to announce will be a relative nobody. The big names want the spotlight to themselves and also want a little begging to go on before they announce.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 07:01 AM) Actually a PhD in Psychology is his education goal, but he would like an opportunity to sample things along the way. Learn how to think. The 11:1 student/faculty ratio and an average class size of 16 seems like nirvana. From the research he has done, graduates seem to do well in grad school. I am concerned about the accreditation. It seems legit. FWIW, you get those kind of numbers in just about any small liberal arts school.
  5. Robocalling you say?
  6. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Nov 6, 2006 -> 12:37 PM) One statement does not make up for his years of being hypocritical. He needs help, yes, and I hope for his sake and his family's sake he can get it, but i still have no respect for him. This statement is years too late. Shouldn't this relate to all PEOPLE, not just evangelical ministers? QUOTE(Nokona @ Nov 6, 2006 -> 05:24 PM) Not even close. Haggard is a (hypocritical) bigot. There's a huge difference there. Yeah, if you guys all hate Haggard, you must really be harboring some awesome grudges against the poster child for lying and hypocracy, Bill Clinton right? I mean not only did he lie about his stuff for how long, but he got up on national TV and accused everyone else of lying, unlike Haggard who just had a congregation to lie to, and on top of it all he lied under oath about it. Wow, this guy must be super unpopular right now.

  8. QUOTE(mmmmmbeeer @ Nov 6, 2006 -> 02:00 PM) The 2006 Twins. The Twins rotation had one rookie to start the season. Baker was the only rookie starter to begin the season. Plus none of the guys mention is anything close to a Liriano or Santana.
  9. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Nov 6, 2006 -> 01:24 PM) Not necessarily. If you can (my point is only if this is possible) pick up Heilman and Pelfrey for Garcia. You've got BMac as well as Heilman to move into the backend of the rotation. Meanwhile, you have Pelfrey developing. That allows another trade of a SP to be made. Texas? Danks and others. Suddenly you rid yourself of a ton of salary as well as age for a ton of young talent. A nucleus of BMac, Pelfrey, Danks, and Heilman is pretty damn good. Just an idea. IF all of those kids develop right away. How many times does a touted starting pitcher step into the rotation and realize his potential right away, let alone having multiple starting pitchers do it, all at the sametime. Its one thing to be breaking in one starter, which it sounds pretty for sure we are going to be doing, it makes things even more complicated. Sure it might work 2-3 + years down the road, but odds are in 2007 we do not make the playoffs. Heck, who was even the last team to make the playoffs with two essential rookies in the starting 5.
  10. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Nov 6, 2006 -> 12:45 PM) If we can get some kind of package involving 2 players like we have been talking about from the Mets, then I hope Kenny doesn't stop at just trading 1 SP. Trading 2 SP and getting those returns could set this franchise up for much extended success. And it would also pretty much ensure that we missed the playoffs for at least one year, if not a couple while those two pitchers developed.
  11. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 6, 2006 -> 12:37 PM) He only owned up to it after being exposed. (Haggard's sermon a week ago). And his prayers were answered.
  12. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Nov 6, 2006 -> 12:22 PM) It's absolutely tragic. But, unlike someone who has bad luck thrust upon them...Ted Haggard did it to himself. Sorry, but I have a lot less respect for someone like him than I would someone who owns up to it. "I am a deceiver and a liar"
  13. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 6, 2006 -> 10:10 AM) Where's the pink Sox cap?!! She continues to be adorable. Didn't want to ruin it with foodcoloring, duh Also for those who haven't heard, she took her first steps a week ago, so pity the poor cats. The kid is thriving like nobodies business.
  14. Good for Kenny. He realizes that his $10 million pitchers are going to be worth big money on the open market this year, when the rest of the starters are looking at 13-15 million per, plus a 4-5 year deal, at least. Mark my words, someone will overpay for one of our starters.
  15. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 6, 2006 -> 08:43 AM) The media only reports stories that fit with their devious bias, they hold secret meetings to decide which stories to run with and how to report it to make Republicans look bad. Republican's on the other hand are perfect, so the media has to make stuff up. I am so tired of any bad news for Republicans being portrayed as media bias. It is the most amazing political strategy of all time. Good news is the media finally getting it right and bad news is media bias. The funny part is that it wasn't bad news for the republicians. As a matter of a fact is wasn't bad news for anyone BUT the guy going to the gallows as far as the overwealming majority of the world is concerned. Even if the story line had stayed to just "Hussein Guilty, to be hung in 30 days" fine. But within a matter of seconds it went from the Iraqi justice system to being a sinister plot worked in the shadows by the evil Karl Rove and company forcing this trial to last the perfect amount of time so that it magically fell right before the American elections. Incredible. You know if the right wing was this completely powerful and omnipotent, they sure as hell wouldn't have all of the problems that they have had, because they could just manipulate them away. Bury your head in the sand if you like, but if you don't want to question why things are done and said by BOTH sides of the aisle, have fun getting fed what to think.
  16. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 5, 2006 -> 07:18 PM) There is one more possible explaination, if a player on another team suddenly lost 20 pounds and his team soured on him, what would we be saying? Umm, a guy losing twenty pounds in a week is usually pretty easy to figure out that he can't keep anything down him. If he lost twenty pounds over a winter, that would be different. Also you kinda have the timeline backwards because the Sox soured on Brian THEN he got sick and lost twenty pounds... but nice try anyway Jay
  17. I am kinda active with a campaign... Yeah, I am doing a little bit of everything right now... to be honest, at this stage I am ready for it to be done. Whatever happens, happens.
  18. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 04:52 PM) I agree. While Ben seems to be "the leader" and we know he was born on the island, Juliette's story is mostly unknown and she seems to be quite free to do whatever she pleases. I think she was the wife of the previous leader. thoughts? Lover, wife,, sister, cousin... hell with this show, who the F knows???
  19. I just love the fact that they captured, convicted, and sentenced the guy and all of the news shows were talking about this being purposefully arranged as a Republician plot to fall right before the election... Yup, that's the conservative media at work all right.
  20. Damn. You hate to see injuries happen to anyone. It probably also means RIP to that Liriano slider.
  21. QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 02:28 PM) two quick things... 1) I've seen many studies showing that the market performs better under Democratic control versus Republican Control. I'll try to dig something up. 2) This market typically prices in predicted events 6 months ahead. Will the fed move rates in Q1, 2007, etc. Do you honestly think that the market hasn't priced in a Democratic House Majority over the past 3 months. The Dems taking the house has been a predicted event for a while now. on yahoo business front page right now.. the middle of the article points out Consider: even as Democrats' election hopes soared following a sex-scandal cover up embroiling Florida Rep. Mark Foley and some Republican leaders, the Dow Jones Industrial average climbed to a new record above the 12,000 mark. That suggests one of two things, according to Prudential Equity Group LLC: "either investors don't believe a shift is afoot, or more likely that they don't think it matters." "Control of one house of Congress when the president is of another party is not particularly helpful," said James Glassman, a fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. "That is even true if the Democrats take control of both houses." Here are what the experts say... Glassman said there are two key areas where Democrats may assert themselves most effectively: trade and taxes. Democrats could play a critical role in helping President Bush revive global trade talks that collapsed over the summer, he said, though they will be tempted for political reasons to withhold support. On taxes, many Democrats strongly oppose the cuts Bush enacted in 2001 and 2003, but Glassman said the party might use its newfound power to force a "grand compromise" with Republicans that extends the cuts, which are set to expire in 2010, but with major revisions aimed at helping working families. Because the Democratic party's election success partly depends on victories by some conservative candidates, or "blue dogs," in districts that traditionally elect Republicans, the ramifications on fiscal policy are not clear cut, lobbyists said. "The easy criticism of the Democrats of an earlier era is not so easy to make anymore," said David Resler, chief economist at Nomura Securities. "The Democrats are splintered politically." I think you missed where I said "if the democrats take control of both houses of Congress"
  22. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 02:25 PM) There you go. PA is a self-affirmed met'ro and fiercely proud of it. Nothing comes between him and his Calvins. Except maybe Calvin
  23. QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 01:51 PM) Do men even shop at Gap? I buy my pants at Sears or Kohls. Maybe metro men?
  24. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 12:02 PM) I'm pretty sure we got to that point because of chemistry, pitching and defense as well as hitting. No doubt, Brian sucked at the plate for the majority of the year, but it seems strange that we'd change our modus operandi after something got us to point B. I don't mean keeping the same personnel, but the same way of getting things done. This years third place finish was a total team effort, that's for sure. That just it, we didn't. Brandon McCarthy actually regressed through last year, and what are we doing with him? Trading a starting pitcher to move him into the rotation. There is something up with Brian specifically.
