A. Jones to White Sox?
QUOTE(S720 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 02:34 PM) If it's just BMAC to get Jones, KW should be shot for not making the trade. There got to be many others beside BMAC that the Braves want. Or perhaps, Jones' contract and salary are just way too big for the Sox to manage, especially when the Sox already has one of the highest payrolls in the league. You hit the nail on the head right there. They are thinking about Brandon replacing one of their starters at a savings of about 10 million dollars a year, plus not wanting to add another $13 million a year long term on top of that. To the Sox that is the equivilent of adding about $20 million a year in payroll, and giving up their top prospect. Remember this is more than just Xbox trades going on here folks. Just because the names wow you, doesn't mean the trade is right.

Middle East conflict
QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 12:31 PM) This is news, how? It's a guerilla war movement that Hezbollah fights. Of course they have some support of the people in Lebanon. Especially the Shia who live in Southern Lebanon. And frankly if the bombs were falling on my house from Israel, I'd probably side with the people fighting back myself. Six weeks ago, Israel had a chance to affect change by attacking Hezbollah politically and helping the Christians and Druze who wanted a disarmed Hezbollah. They didn't do that, did they? Southsider: to answer your comment, of course Hezbollah hasn't done that. And they wouldn't. Their stated goal is the destruction of Israel. That's unacceptable. However, Israel's stated goal wasn't bombing shelters of women and children either. It was stopping Hezbollah and making tactical mistakes like that doesn't stop Hezbollah. Even if some families are letting the militias fire from a backyard. A mistake is just that... a mistake. The underlying theme as this is portrayed is that Israel is out of control just shooting missiles anywhere and everywhere hoping to get lucky and hit Hezbollah guys, and that seems to not be the reality there. The reality seems to be that these guy are firing missiles from densely populated areas, and then when Israel answers fire, they take the opportunity on the world media stage by dragging out the bodies of all of the dead civilians as proof of Israels aggression, when in fact all it might be proof of is that Israels bombing is much more accurate than was thought because they are hitting the areas they are being fired at from. It seems pretty simple to me, if you don't want civilian areas targeted, don't use them to conduct military operations.

Aussie paper offers up "proof" of Hezbollah attacking from residental areas As always the truth is what you want to see in it. Its hard to tell from the couple of pics exactly where they are, and what areas they are in, but it seems fairly plausible.

Gload
Judging by his complete lack of ability to dig a throw out of the dirt this weekend, I don't think teams will be beating down Ross's door for a starting position. He's a solid bench guy, but nothing more.

have the yanks forced KW to make a move?
Kenny is sending the message that this is his squad for better or for worse. We'll see if it makes a difference or not.

Miguel Tejada
Wow. Just wow. How do you pass up that deal if you are Baltimore, and make that deal if you are Houston?

Be cool everyone!
Heat wave expected here again as temps approach the record of 100 degrees for today and tomorrow... With the humidity temps will feel as hot as 115 degrees, an an Ozone/Pollution warning has also been issued. Also be sure to check in on people you know who do not have air conditioning, especially the elderly!

Films
Finally saw Old School over the weekend, and it was funny, but overrated IMO. There were some great parts, but I just don't get Will Ferrell. He plays the same character in almost every movie, yet someone he is still considered a comic god of somekind... Eh to each his own.

Minimum Wage Passes House
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 08:12 AM) That, in my opinion, does too much to further the current wave in transfer of power to the executive. That branch has already grown too big for its britches. Either way I think gives too much power to one branch. I think the legislative branch should only be working with one law in one bill, otherwise bundleing them, gives them too much power, while giving the executive branch the ability to pick and choose, gives them a lot of power. I would rather see neither have their abilities, but the line item veto is the proper balance to bundled bills IMO.

I wonder when the last time Hebollah issued a time out after killing 50 Israeli citizens was?

Minimum Wage Passes House
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 12:39 PM) While I actually agree with both of these moves individually, I do agree that these railroad rider bills fly in the face of the intended purpose of legislation. I'll state again my support of something like a Truth in Legislation Act, requiring bills to stay on topic. You want 2 bills? Send 2 bills. This would prevent all sorts of the B.S. underhanded stuff that goes on, keep the budget under control (since the add-ons often cost money), and allow REAL transparency for the American people. This means that people who choose to monitor Congress can more easily know who they are really voting for. Either that or we need a line item veto to be passed...

Middle East conflict
Maybe its a tacky example, but this almost reminds me of the fight scene during the big party in Dazed and Confused... The not-so-tough nerdy guy is mad about being verbally abused by one of the tough drunk guys, so he hatches this scheme to where he will take the first punch, and stall thinking that everyone else will jump in and break up the fight. Instead everyone wants to watch and the guy gets the crap beat out of him for a while, before the fight finally gets broke up. I don't know how Hezbollah thought they could run raids into Israel and kidnap their soldiers and not expect the nation that has a sixty year history of kicking the crap out of anyone who dares mess with them, and get off scott-free. I really believe they thought they were going to be able to draw Syria and Iran into a broader war, and now they have no idea what to do, and are just waiting for someone to break up the fight. Hezbollah really miscalculated things, because now they just gave Israel an open door to bomb their infrastruct back to the stoneage, and they are doing just that. Is it right, I would say not to the extent that it happened so far, but was it expected? Hell yes. The whole middle east knows you don't mess with Israel without expecting a big reaction in return.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 10:44 AM) Not Jerry... And I'm not even sure about Brooks. Maybe Christine (brain cramp on her last name right this second) who is in charge of special events? Though if you mailed it to BB he would get it to the right person I'm sure. Suggestion... don't call it shoddy. They just underplanned. It's not like they did it on purpose and FWIW, I know they feel like crap that a lot of fans got shafted. I believe it is Christine O'Rielly (not sure of the spelling)

****Carlos Lee to Rangers

Lee Rejects Huge Offer
Does anyone remember what year Gonzalez got offered that deal by Detroit? It seems to me that he could be either in his last year of that deal, or that last year would have been the last year... Damn how screwed would the Tigers have been paying that guy 20 million a year for nothing, still?

Potential other Sox deals
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 02:38 PM) That last quote is priceless. LOL Well I guess the Pube Watch is on now as Brians OPS looks like it is .623

Soriano Rumors: Part Deux
QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 02:57 PM) That is if what ChiSox9 is reporting is true. However, it is not. He did not say "Detroit is willing to include Humberto Sanchez". ChiSox9 is rephrasing it the way he wants to. Olney said "may be leaning towards including Humberto Sanchez". That seems like a big difference to me. Which is still a giant leap forward from Dombrowksi saying there is no way he gets traded... The mere fact that they are contemplating it is a huge chance.

Anybody Else Getting Burned on this Grinder Party Thing?
QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 02:56 PM) Oh this is the White Sox organization through and through. The Grinder Party is all about the Sox, but the overselling of Soxfest falls squarely at the feet of the Hyatt.

Right Now
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 12:16 AM) How many of these type of threads are we going to have? Starting a "Let's get going" thread after every series loss is not gonna magically spark this team. Then again neither will all of the fire/trade/sucks/seasonsover threads either, but that hasn't stopped them from popping up all over the place either.

Anybody Else Getting Burned on this Grinder Party Thing?
QUOTE(salty99 @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 02:50 PM) They obviously didn't learn from SoxFest The White Sox didn't screw up Soxfest, the Hyatt did. That's exactly why they aren't holding it at the Hyatt next year.

Soriano Rumors: Part Deux
QUOTE(ChiSox9 @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 10:40 AM) Olney reported this morning the the Tigers would be willing to give up right handed pitching prospect Humberto Sanchez for the deal for Soriano. I believe this is the player the nationals were holding out for to complete the deal. Kenny Williams has done a heck of a job of scaring Detroit if nothing else...
