NHL salary cap to rise to $44 million, with a floor of $28 m
Wow. So teams will have some money to spend this off-season, and IIRC that means the top salary will be $8.8 mil for an individual, right?

Soxtalk's consumer thread
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 12:46 PM) Comcast double billed me for services, they are still "looking into it" Callaway golf clubs has one of the best customer service depts I have ever seen. They sent me a new golf bag no questions asked, very nice people. I had the same problem years ago with their automatic internet billing service. Everytime I paid my cable bill (which I did on-line) for some reason the same amount also got paid to the internet. It was a pain the ass to fix, and was a reason I dropped them and went to DSL at home.

Not many teams to trade with.
There was a blurb in the Trib about the ATL GM saying there was no way they were conceeding this season, and they think that they can still win the division.

As you call can tell, we are doing a little rearranging and promoting to better fill in spots, so that we can better moderate Soxtalk. Some people don't have as much time as they used to, while we have a lot of newer posters who have proven they deserve a chance at the wheel of the Soxtalk ship. Right now we are in the process of asking some people who are already mods if they are interested in becoming global moderators, and as those people move up, we are asking people to become single board moderators to take their place. Our hope is that we get a little bit better coverage of some of the sections of Soxtalk, as it has gotten busy enough to where we can't keep an eye on stuff as well as we would like to. The cool part is that this is all possible because of the incredible growth of Soxtalk. It seems like all too often we are idenifying some problem, directly related to the astronomical expansions here. The awesome thing is that this is a "problem" we wouldn't trade for the world. Keep telling your friends about Soxtalk, and keep posting away. You all are the reason Soxtalk is the PRIMARY spot of talking White Sox baseball on the internet. Again, we owe all of this to you, the readers and posters. As always, if anyone has any comments or concerns, feel free to post them, PM your favorite mod/admin, or email any of us as well.

Soxtalk's consumer thread
Here is something I just learned the other day for those who are interested in Kodak digital cameras or accessories. My camera recently crapped out on me, and so as I looked for the sameone to replace it, I came across a group on Ebay the specialized in Kodak auctions... well it turns out it actually IS kodak, and they sell their refurbished stuff for WAY cheaper than the factory new stuff. The refurbs come with the same warranty and guarentees, and are factory sealed in the box. The cheapest I could find a replacement anywhere else was about $150, and I won it on Ebay for $83, plus 7.50 for S&H. Here is their list of auctions if anybody else is interested, I definately recommend them to purchasing the exact samethings in the stores. http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQfgtpZ1QQfrppZ2...odakQ2eauctions

For GOP only
http://new.heritage.org/Research/Budget/wm1132.cfm This is the Save Our Spending bill. It is interesting, and seems to recognize the ridiculous spending that we are still engaging in, but the big thing I don't like is some of the automatic triggers imbedded in here, and that takes away the option of spending to stave off recession or depression when needed.

Cubs sign Samardzija
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 09:54 AM) The Sox signing of Borchard was just as skewed. And brought about the "recommended" signing bonuses from the commishes office IIRC.

Soxtalk's consumer thread
This thread is for people here to talk about their experiences with companies that they have interactions with, and either like or don't like, or would like to recommend to other people. For example, if you have a problem with a cellphone company, and want to advice people not to use that company, share your story here. Did you have an excellent experience buying a car at your local dealership and want to share it? Do it here.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 09:42 AM) They won't 'ignore' the Sox right now. Why? Because the Sox will make the Tribune $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$, as silly as that sounds. That's the hole in your theory, IMO. Ding. Winner. If this were TRUELY an effort to bury the White Sox, the effort by the TribCo would be INCREASING now, as the Cubs have fallen into the toilet, while the Sox are world champs. This is a crucial junction at which we could be witnessing the transformation of Chicago from a Cubs town to a Sox town, and yet the Tribune is theoretically helping out the Sox by publishing more of their stories in relation to recent history than they ever have done before? No way. There would be more of an effort to slander the Sox, as the Cubs marketshare is being challenged for the first time since the early 90's. Now why would the Tribune all of the sudden be MORE interested in the Sox, at the expense of their own team? Profit motivation. They see more dollars on the table, and they want them.

Is ANYONE in Chicago even submitting ALL Star ballots?
There are plenty of people submitting ballots from here, thank you very much. If you paid attention you would notice all of the respective White Sox have been making moves up the ranks in the balloting.

QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 08:21 AM) #2 Hey, I ask the same thing, Im not sure what the heck the SunTimes is thinking ............ other than they ARENT thinking. The SunTimes looks at the Trib as the belle of the ball, and tries to mimic everything they do. Someone at the SunTimes will have to step up and tell us why theyve gone out of their way to help promote the product of their rival. The only thing I can think of, is they are simply taking the SAFE way out. Cowards The thing is, that isn't their methodology AT ALL, when you compare the rest of the papers. The Chicago Tribune is a world wide newspaper with one of the top 5 circulations in the US because of the highly respected writers that they hire. The Trib has excellent hard hitting investigative reporters, while the Sun-Times favors the more tabloid side of things, focusing more on the screaming headlines. The Trib has reporters world wide, and is known for their news coverage independant of the wire services, while the ST focuses much more on the local stories. Heck compare some of the writers for the Tribune, you get guys like John Kass, Clarence Page, and Charles Madigan while the Sun Times leads with people like Carol Slezak and Jay Mariotti. The Sun Times tries to distinguish itself from the Tribune at EVERY turn, and once again, it is for the explicit reason of trying to offer up an alternative to the massive TribCo, and to try to get underserved readers to pick up their paper instead... Yet we are to believe that in the one instance where there is a market of potentially millions of underserved Sox fans, they blow it off in favor of trying to siphon of the one area where the Tribune is going to be strongest provider of, and that is their own Cubs? It does not add up.

Game 7 -- Stanley Cup Playoffs
That was a great game, and an awesome job by the fans there. They were into EVERYTHING. Also I thought it was cool that the whole stadium sang with the national anthem instead of just listening.

Cubs sign Samardzija
The money is impressive, but misleading. He only gets it if he sticks out all 5 years. Most of the money is at the very end of the contract. If he leaves the Cubs for football, he ends up being paid like a typical 2nd or 3rd rounder from the sounds of it.
