Sox, Cubs respond to Sun-Times column
QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 11:43 AM) So why is Selig being the only one raked over the coals in here? Not one person has mentioned Donald Fehr. Who actively worked to PREVENT drug testing... unlike Bud Selig.

American flag banned at public school
QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 09:44 AM) If not for the political battle that the parties have hoped for, this would not be an issue. Like Presidents before him, Bush would have quietly allowed the practice together. The great GOP President, someone that Republicans call the greatest ever, Reagan knew that these workers were necessary. What we have today are politicians and pundits fanning the flames of racism with cries of terrorism and widespread American (re white) unemployment. Watch out fot the boogey man, he's sneaking across the border tonight to steal your jobs and commit untold acts of terror. There is actually a fairly sizable movement out of the black community too. By and large because of lower general education levels it is black workers who have the most to lose with illegal immigration. And its not just white people fanning the flames of racism, some of them are mayors of formerly black cities who are on record as wanting to keep Mexicans out of his "chocolate" city. He was applauded for it, and never really met with any outrage both in the media and the public at large. But thanks for the racial generalizations, which do no more to help in this debate than Mexician students intentionally defaming the American flag... http://newsbusters.org/node/2147

Organ
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 09:18 AM) Oh I'd rather see her stay. But between a new organist and no organist (just cheesy replayed stuff), I'll take a new one, thank you. Canned music sucks. Even a Nancy Faust replacement is better than that crap. I am going to really miss Nancy though, talk about the theme song for your childhood... Its a sad day in Sox history when Nancy unplugs the organ for the final time, just as much so as when some of the star players have retired IMO.

A Look at the 2006 Kannapolis Intimidators
QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 09:25 AM) cool stuff. I wish comcast would show some minor league games instead of endless hours of poker. Where the hell is Kannapolis? One of the Carolinas... North I believe.

Guillen gets a tad upset with Iguchi
QUOTE(Harry&JimmyRocked @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 10:15 PM) totally agree on the Gload thing. i believe ozzie and kw just don't like him for some reason. Which is why they traded Joe Borchard to keep him on the roster...

Guillen gets a tad upset with Iguchi
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 09:41 PM) I think Iguchi should have probably made a better response than "no comment." He should have said something like, "I will do whatever is best for the team." Of course, Iguchi sitting on the bench really isn't what's best for the team due to him being our fourth best hitter. Ozzie probably shouldn't have snapped off like that. I wonder what Gload must be thinking. Dude can't even buy an at bat off the bench and he's our best pinch hitter. By the time the question got asked, translated, answered, translated back to English, the answer got recorded, and printed... How do you know he didn't? Factoring in the difference in subtleties between English, Spanish, and Japanese, Tadahito could very well have been giving a nonanswer, and probably was. Something like this is being blown way out of proportion for all of the potential grey areas here. Its hard enough to get information second hand in one language, let alone two or three. Its like a game of telephone to the extreme.

That is spectacular. Too bad a newspaper would never print something that is an intelligent rebuttal.

American Idol Predictions
QUOTE(The Critic @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 07:13 AM) I love the music of Queen, so I'll avoid this show even more than I usually do. If I can't handle a solid pro like Paul Rodgers singing Queen songs, I might throw a brick at my TV watching this. ....but you kids have fun.... Well that would be one less guy b****ing during game threads...

No More Complaining About Jerry...
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 12:39 AM) Remember those days when we had those threads with some of the fans crying poor, about how JR didn't put enough money into the team, yet the "sane" people argued that payroll HAD increased over the past 5 seasons? Ahhh those were the days. But it shows how far this team has come in such a short period of time since last season. And let's just enjoy the ride while we can. And the funny thing is that those of us who argued attendence=payroll got proved right... again. At least that is one stupid arguement that got buried along with Kerry Wood being better than Mark Buehrle.

Not to sound too critical
Don't worry I am done with the arguement. There isn't any point to keeping the same circle going. Its all yours.

American Idol Predictions
QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 10:47 PM) How about Queen? That far enough on the other end of the spectrum? That should shake things up a bit. I have no idea how this will work out, but it certainly could be interesting. Yeah I gotta say I like the Queen theme too. It is going to put pretty much everyone on notice because no one has anything like that kind of a voice. Song choice should be interesting because there is a big variety of styles, but in the big picture, Freddy Mercury never really wrote a "safe" song. Plus I love the music of Queen, so it should be a fun week.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 06:18 PM) You hurt your chances of playing in October by making stupid ass decisions in April too. They're also not won when you have 21 year old rookie ball pitchers facing the best lefthanded batter in the division. That's not even mentioning the 4 better options Ozzie had in that situation. GMAB. Did anyone happen to mention that using Logan early just so happened to leave Ozzie Neal Cotts to fave Travis Hafner late in the game? Would you rather have seen Logan or Thornton facing Haf in the 9th or 7th? Also, we all can look back at the last two season and see repeated instances where Ozzie used young guys in key situations. For christ sakes he used a 300 pound alcoholic rookie with an eating disorder to close games in the playoffs and world series against one some of the best powerhitters of our generation! You want to tell me that was smarter than using a 21 year rookie leaguer on April 4th? This is the way that Ozzie manages. I know many people can't see past today, but there is a method to the madness, and you can't convince me that we win the World Series with Cliff Politte close, Damaso Marte facing the key lefties late, and not utilizing our bench in the playoffs. The only reason Ozzie Guillen knew that these kids were cut out for the bigtime is because he tested them in pressure situations that in the grand scheme of things didn't mean a damned thing.

American Idol Predictions
QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 08:35 PM) You scare me Mike. Nice prediction with the final result. Its the samething every year.... in the middle rounds there is always one of the "favorites" who gets booted and Ryan makes this pitiful guilt trip about voting for your favorite contestant. Then they seem to get rid of the dead weight pretty quickly. This show has gotten so predictable.

QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 05:10 PM) He had a lot of JerryMaunelitis last year.....did you see his game 3 throw-away lineups? Or the need to play Timo a 1st over Gload? And this proves my point that you and many, many others, don't get what Ozzie is doing at all. Ozzie does not manage for April. He is managing for October. Ozzie wants to know who has the ability to do what, in specific situations. How do you think Neal Cotts got to be mentioned as a closer canditiate, because he was afraid to use him in the 7th and 8th innings? He had to get from being a middle inning guy to a late inning guy somehow... Those weren't game 3 throw away line ups. Those were ABs to keep the back ups sharp, and the starters rested. I am sure you managed to watch September and October when we toasted everyone in our path right? Since you seemed to have missed the lessons, let me refresh you. Everything Ozzie did turned to gold. Do you want to know why? Because he knew the capabilities and shortfalls of every single player on that team. Do you think we win the World Series with Bobby Jenks as a middle relief guy because Ozzie was afraid to use a rookie in important games in August and September? It would have been Cliff Politte closing according to conventional wisdom, do you really think we win then? I hate to come off as condisending, but look beyond the box scores and Xboxs. Games aren't won on paper.
