Cleveland @ Chicago 7:05

Cleveland @ Chicago 7:05
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 01:22 PM) Is there a record for most posts in a game thread before the game even starts? I think the opening day thread had way over 100 posts before the game started.

Cleveland @ Chicago 7:05
This is a taylor made Freddy Garcia game. For whatever reason he has trouble getting focused early against patsy teams, but comes in locked and loaded for big games. I think we will see a vintage Freddy Garcia preformance.

Sox have nothing to lose
If the rain holds off, the walk up could make this game a sell-out.

Hurricane Katrina
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 12:06 PM) Right now, the 17th street Levee gap is filled by a bunch of sandbags...so if it gets hit by any wind at all...that city could very well re-flood completely. It also is again on path to hit the exact same sort of waters that turned Katrina into a cat 5. Hopefully...people will have learned to get the Hell out of the way of this one if it stays on its current path. BTW, in order for that storm to make a beeline to Houston, it would have to pass right through Galveston, Texas...the site of the current worst natural disaster in U.S. history in terms of loss of life. http://www.noaa.gov/galveston1900/ If anyone ever wants to watch a compelling story about this, try catching "Isaac's Storm" on the History Channel when it comes on again. Galveston was the biggest city in the state of Texas in 1900 when this storm hit. The devestation and dead were incredible. Galveston is a lot better equipped to handle storms of this nature today as evidenced by the hit they took from Hurricane Alicia in 1983. They also remembered a valuable lesson in leaving the island if there is going to be a hurricane. http://www.usatoday.com/weather/huricane/history/walicia.htm

Hurricane Katrina
QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 11:57 AM) http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/storm_graphics/AT1.../151209W_sm.gif The center of that circle is a dead on aim for Houston Texas, which has the biggest gasoline refinaries in the country in Texas City, Texas... not to mention a metro area of about 5 million people, give or take a few. The far east track line is almost exactly what Katrina did.

Carl Everett
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 11:26 AM) They have needed to move a piece to get a good arm for a couple years now, and each year they've chosen not to do it. This year they even traded away a pitcher to get another bat. It would be very smart of them to talk to someone like Chicago or Minnesota about grabbing one of their young bats, but thus far they've just been unwilling to do it. I think they're just scared about trading any player the fans like for pitching and having it blow up in their face. Plus, my money says Soriano is the first one to move from that team out of anyone. Calling Chan Ho Park a pitcher, is like calling El Duque's second half solid.

Hurricane Katrina
All of those thousands dead, still have not materialized. So far there are only 579 dead officially in New Orleans. Also they are estimating only 40% of the city under water now.

N.Korea abandons Nuclear programs
QUOTE(The Critic @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 10:15 AM) I find myself skeptical. This seems like a pretty quick 180 by North Korea. And this part - "North Korea doesn't want to totally disarm without getting concessions. Washington has said it wants the weapons programs completely gone before rewarding North Korea" makes it sound like the deal could still fall apart. This kinda smells like more posturing by North Korea to me. I hope they're sincere, though. To be honest, I have zero expectations that NK will abandon their nuke program. I am sure that one of the involved countries bribed Il to say that they were going to comply, since that has pretty much been their MO for negotiations all along. They scream and yell about needing to have this program for energy and defense, and then when someone offers them oil and/or food, they take the offer.

Mark Buerhle's an Ace ????
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 10:29 AM) Case in point. Buehrle's consistant immunity is really getting out of hand. The guy deserves to be blasted right now. Until he proves otherwise, Buehrle is far from "ace" material. :rolly

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 12:36 PM) Don't go to the Cell. Our team f'n blows with fans in the seats. Now is not the time to start going. What happened to you never coming back here again?

American Idol
I had these people on my train in the morning. My favorite Idol encounter was the young girl all dress up for preforming including her cute little hat, and asked me which way "Lake Shore" was, while standing in front of the Sears Tower.

McCartney Concert Review
Glad to hear that you enjoyed the show as much as I did a couple of years ago. One of the things that amazed me is how vibrant he still is at 63. The rest of us can only hope we have half of that energy, and that is without mentioning the ability to preform. He did change around something since I went, and one of the songs that wasn't played was "Here, There and Everywhere" which was the song my wife and I danced to for our first dance. From now on I'll just assume that he played it just for us

Cleveland @ Chicago 7:05
QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 01:27 AM) "We'd have 10,000 a lot of nights in Chicago [and] they were loud and a great 10,000, but outside of that little loyal bunch, fan support there stinks," Howry said of Sox crowds that average 17th in the league at 28,692. "It's brutal. You have a team that for the longest time had the best record in baseball and a team that's been in first place by a huge margin all year long, and you can't pull fan support?" f*** Bob Howry. If Chicago fans are so great, what are Indians fans who are 24th in attendance drawing 4000 less fans a night, with no second option to go see. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/attendance Indians fans are the biggest bandwagon fans there are. There attendance fell 50% in two years after they quit winning. Try looking in the mirror before you speak, idiot.

Step it Up Garland!!!!!
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 10:39 AM) Sure, but I still want this game. Bad. Runs to make Step it up El Duque thread. Of course we all WANT this game, but the situation is a lot less dire with a 5 loss lead.

Back to the 1940s - Sox vs Twinkies 9-17
I am a little disappointed not to see Spods in the line up. Even if we can't hit Santana, we need guys to work the counts deep and get him out of the game ASAP. This would have been a perfect game for a Frank Thomas 15 pitch AB.

Step it Up Garland!!!!!
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 02:40 AM) Jon stepped up tonight. All be it against a very weak hitting team. We needed a domiant performance tonight and we got one. Jon's preformance makes today's game a lot less desperate.

Good point by Rozner...
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 02:31 AM) I'll bet they got a good celebration in tonight for Bobby's first ML win. Just watch...I bet tomorrow you'll see us looking 10x as loose as we've looked the last week. Finally someone else said it. To me that is the HUGE difference between April-July and now. All of the players look like they are trying to win a game on every pitch, on every swing, and every defensive chance. They are soooooo uptight it is scary. It isn't that this team has quit, or isn't playing hard, they are trying to hard. Heck they have all gotten that Paul Konerko syndrome where they are stressed out of their minds during a slump. They need to relax, take it one pitch at a time, and if it doesn't work, get 'em the next pitch.

Back to the 1940s - Sox vs Twinkies 9-17
Let's make this a fitting farewell to one of the best announcers in Chicago sports history. The whole city of Sox fans is going to be tuned in to hear John Rooney work his magic for a captive audience. Let's make it a good one.

Delta, Northwest Declare bankruptcy
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 05:12 PM) In that case...then yes, Nuke and I actually seem to be in full agreement on an issue. So let's see...first the 15 game lead falls to 4.5 Then Nuke and Balta agree on something... Presumably the next step involves 4 guys on horseback? [checks cubs magic number] Nope you guys are all right for at least another year.

Chavez calls for removal of UN from the US
I notice Chavez didn't call for someone else to be the primary monitary supporter of the UN :rolly
