  1. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 10:16 AM) I just wonder about those standing by a parking meter. Especially those that look like military men

So it looks like they have moved landfall down to around Port Lavacca/Victoria way. In a way that is good as that moves the storm track into much less populated areas, and away from the biggest unleaded gasoline refineries in the United States.
  3. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 10:32 AM) I don't think you can compare the two in credibility. I believe Robertson has far more credibiity in main steam America. Which is why his remarks are far more newsworthy and shocking. Farrakhan's remarks were not shocking and I think most people reacted like Nuke and found it funny. There is a huge difference in Bush saying something and some psycho guy muttering it on a corner and the media should treat them differently. Same with this. That psycho on the corner may have a great deal of influence with the other psychos on the corner. I guess we should also define large segment of the population. How large do you think Farrakhan has? How do you define sway? He is the leader of the Nation of Islam, involved in the NAACP, and the Million Black Man march. I would say that he is a pretty big number when you start adding up those organizations. I would tend to guess it would be fairly close to Robertson's organization. I would tend to say that a leader of an organization and the organizer of events that can attract a million people holds sway over people, but maybe that is just me.
  4. QUOTE(SnB @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 10:43 AM) so how long has it been since we've had threads BESIDES either: a) we're done, we suck or B ) shutup people! we don't suck. this place has gotten so old so fast. Shut up, we suck!!! (And so does Konerko)
  5. To follow that up... 1727 posts in the game thread yesterday is by far the longest game thread ever.
  6. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 10:14 AM) Pounded, we had 1 ER off of him. Here is all I have to say about last night. Politte 8th Jenks 9th Ballgame wheather we win or lose there is no real debate. s***ting on and pointing out the obvious are very different. I feel we still have a shot at the playoffs but this is very, very sad to think it is 50/50 right now. It could be worse, you could be a Red Sox fan. Since when did they stop counting unearned runs on the scoreboard? The Sox still had to get the hits after that to bring those guys in.
  7. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 09:47 AM) I don't think they'd get high ratings if the media went after Mr. "I need to rent out bingo halls" Farrakhan. That is exactly my point. One guy equals ratings, dispite Farrakhan holding sway over a large segment of population. Just because the guy doesn't have a cable network, doesn't mean he doesn't hold influence. There are many, many people who follow and believe him, just like Robertson. Heck the way the media portrays it the good minister basically speaks for the black race, while Robertson just speaks for the right wing wackos.
  8. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 10:00 AM) You're not kidding. I was there for batting pratice and Cleveland was just CRUSHING the ball. I don't think I've ever seen that many balls go into the stands, and I mean WAY into the stands. I'm surprised they only got the four runs that they did. The Sox also had two balls caught on the track, one of them would have been a 3 run HR IIRC. The thing about baseball is they all counted for the samething... Outs.
  9. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 09:23 AM) Next time Ozzie starts running out to the mound every batter to get a lefty/lefty or righty/right match-up, you may want to look at the stats of the 5 pitchers he does this for most often: Politte .159 against LH .175 against RH Jenks .089 against LH .273 against RH Cotts .215 against LH .127 against RH Marte .256 against LH .235 against RH Vizcaino .311 against LH .235 against RH Except for Vizcaino all the other guys actually have more success against the guys they are being lifted for than the guys they are going in the game to retire. I keep seeing these numbers, but I would like someone to answer me this. How much of this is due to the left handers that they do face. If they are a GOOD lefty Ozzie uses Marte or Cotts to get them out. Which means that when they do face a lefty, they aren't facing a Travis Hafner, they are facing a no named chump. Vizcaino being the middle reliever faces a lot more hitters, as he logs more innings per outing, much earlier in the game, which means he is seeing some of these same lefties that Marte would face later in the game. Would all of these guys have nearly the same numbers against lefties if they faced anywhere near the quality of hitters that first Marte, and then Cotts faces? I seriously doubt it. Once again there are 3 kinds of lies. Lies, Damned Lies, and Statistics.
  10. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 12:14 AM) I feel okay because it's still baseball. And I love baseball, even when they suck. But I think they'll make the playoffs. And if they don't, well, that sucks. But irregardless of the outcome, you know I'm going to be cheering for them again next year. So, I mean, might as well not let it ruin my life--and see it for what it is: a game I love. Jason: have you been drinking? QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 12:14 AM) If they lose, they lose, its a f***ing game... you want real life, go talk to the folks of New Orleans that have no possessions anymore. Go talk to the almost 3000 families that lost a relative or friend from 9/11. Then realize how STUPID it is to live and die by the White Sox and the game of baseball!!! Baseball is entertainment, if its not entertaining you, turn it off and go do something productive Very good posts. ITS A GAME PEOPLE!!! Quit letting it affect your lives. If you don't kick your dog after a Sox loss, it doesn't make you less of a fan, it means you have perspective on life. Be mad that people are dying in Africa from diseases that we eradicated 50 years ago, be mad that people may never get their lives back after Katrina, don't be mad at a game. Get out of the house and do some good in the world. If you are blessed enough to sit for 3 1/2 hours watching a game, and still have that much negative energy, you need to rechannel it, and do something positive for people who do not have the luxury of being able to waste that much time on something that isn't survival oriented. Its called perspective folks.
  11. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 09:03 AM) Looking at the weather map all I can think of is Rita, nothing can come between us. I just hope she doesn't tow your heart away...
  12. Thank God that Everett and Crede didn't play last night or we would have never gotten back in that game :rolly
  13. I too was proud to see the boys battle back. It goes to show all of those who are preaching about the Sox quitting and all of that garbage were dead on wrong. The biggest problem we had yesterday was Freddy Garcia's refusal to work to the inside corner, and a complete failure of the bullpen from Marte to Jenks to Hermanson.
  14. Rita's approach has suspended Mayor Nagins plan for returning to New Orleans.
  15. southsider2k5 replied to kapkomet's topic in SLaM
Rita has been officially upgraded to a Hurricane.
  16. Wow. Too bad Pat Robertson didn't say it, that way the rest of the networks could run it as their top story.
  17. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 06:27 PM) If I'm reading this right...I think we can say precisely why it is the Republicans have increased the size of the Federal Government by 33% in the last 4.5 years since Bush took office. At least 1 Congressional Republican thinks $500,000 is greater than $223 million. Anchorage Daily News. A Clinton recession, terrorism, and war will do that to a budget. Also interesting from that article There were SIX THOUSAND items added by congressmen to the Highway Bill. Even worse than things like bridges to no where were items that had NOTHING to do with easing traffic flow such as these... Those over 6000 items that were added to the Highway Bill were worth $24 billion ALONE, which would supply potentially 15% or so of the expected cost of Katrina. That isn't even touching any other of the wasteful bills and budgets that exsist out there.
  18. QUOTE(whitesoxgt @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 03:32 PM) HE WANTED TO TRADE MCCARTHY FOR GODS SAKE HE didn't want to trade McCarthy. Other GMs wanted him to trade Brandon to THEM. Everyone was asking for him, and judging by the fact that KW didn't trade for anyone, I would take that as KW NOT wanted to trade BMAC.
  19. I have been in trading for 7 years now, almost 8, and let me tell you this makes *perfect* sense with everything I have ever seen.
  20. That story about the nursing home drownding is not agreeing with the timeline of events... http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9368952
  21. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 02:57 PM) That's about as dumb as the people who think the Sox are better off not making the playoffs instead of winning the Wild Card. ^^^ They'll let anyone on the radio.
  22. Boy when you add the way the Sox have been playing to a bottle of lotion and some kleenex, this is the stuff that dreams are made of for Kotex-boy.
  23. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 01:51 PM) Oil spiked 4 and some change to 67.5 a barrel today cause of concerns about the new hurricane forming near Florida. That and they aren't sure OPEC is going to raise production at all.
