Again, it is common sense. You can't have a guy who is everything you describe, yet still claim that GMs want him at $18 million a season. That doesn't add up. Either he is a decent enough pitcher to demand trade value even with an $18 million price tag, or he is awful, and no one else is going to want him. You can't have it both ways.

So no GM is going to want to trade for him if all that is true. Seems simple enough.

I can't see anyone claiming him, but yes. If he flows through waivers, he can either accept an assignment to the minors, or elect free agency. Either way Eaton gets paid.

It is definitely worth pondering.

I think they are riding the hot hand until Eloy and Robert get back.

I think their philosophy is pretty obvious. They think they have the majority of the talent they need for the next few years here. What they are trying to set up for is to have a second wave of talent arriving when guys start to hit free agency or potentially fade away.
