  1. I see it more like this... The Sox had this hole and even with having every piece of statistical data on Yermin Mercedes, they still chose to play guys like AJ Reed and Matt Skole over him. The Sox know more than anyone in baseball about Yermin, and still went out and found waiver wire garbage to start over him. Even with the Sox decision making, no other team in baseball has been wiling to acquire Mercedes. The odds are really, really, really high that 2+2=4 here, and he joins the scrap heap of 4A players who never could break though after putting up insane minor league hitting numbers.
  2. So what are we having the discussion about? A one in a thousand chance that he is special? That's your point? Again we are talking about a 27 year old without a defensive position. He is not an option at catcher. That is 100% for sure. He's also not going to be the DH because of Vaughn. Despite all of that, the Sox have not traded him to someone else who wanted him more. Why are we wasting time lamenting Yermin Mercedes then, and entertaining someone calling him Rick Hahn's biggest failure?
  3. So your argument is that Yermin Mercedes is a once in a generation player, with just one major league AB and no defensive position. Pass.
  4. Edgar Martinez had a .300 season with am OPS of 800 by age 27, including about 1000 MLB PAs. Let's not be ridiculous here.
  5. You are embarrassing all of us Midwesterners.
  6. Yermon Mercedes in all likelihood is a 4A player. He has no defensive position to play. You are talking about his skills in the past tense like he has proven anything.
  7. Not playing a back up DH is a bigger blunder than Tatis for Shields. This is officially a parody account now. Yermin doesn't rank in the top 10, let alone #1.
  8. False. Plenty have talked about it. Problem is those people don't talk about the teams upside at all.
  9. This. If he could catch at all, he would have already been on the roster.
  10. Vera hasn't officially signed yet, but because of COVID the situation is fluid. Even other members of the Sox class are signing on separate days, including a few over the end of last week. The older Cespedes has had no real rumors, but it was an interesting tidbit about the agent switch. Maybe an incentive laced contract draws him here? Who knows. The younger Cespedes is going to AZ for a separate minor league mini camp. He is not invited to spring training at this time, so there is a near zero chance he breaks with the big club unless something drastic happens.
  11. Speaking of extensions, should the Sox approach Crochet about an extension, and if so, what should they approach him with?
  12. It cracks me up when people have a point of view like this, yet spend hour after hour invested in these teams. If you really feel this way, why are you letting the man continue to violate you? Man up and walk away. Quit letting Jerry Reinsdorf live in your head rent free.
  13. Yeah I am not going to go as far as some have to stan for Law, but in the case of Tatis, he was by far the first prospect guy to be talking about Jr.
  14. September 25, 2020: Selected off waivers by the Seattle Mariners from the Chicago White Sox. December 7, 2020: Selected off waivers by the Philadelphia Phillies from the Seattle Mariners. February 5, 2021: Selected off waivers by the Minnesota Twins from the Philadelphia Phillies. And then add today waived by Minnesota.
