    QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 10:25 AM) Hal had more of an edge to him, no? si. Reynolds' characters are just too goofball for me to see him convincingly as a man born without fear. Plus, I can't see Hal giving a villain The Goat or The Batwing when the chips are down.

    QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 10:33 PM) Im actually curious if both Marvel and DC will allow Reynolds to play both Deadpool and The Green Lantern. I have to imagine one of the companies would jump in and ask him to choose I thought he was also tapped to play The Flash if they ever get that production off the ground. I guess I could see Reynolds as a decent Barry Allen or Wally West, but I just don't see a lot of Hal Jordan in him.
  3. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 04:29 PM) You and me both, Formerly known as Soxtex. I can't stand plucking. Way too painful, even if only for a brief second or two. Jezzus! I'm a plucker. But not a nail biter — that's gross.
  4. QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 01:33 PM) Holy s*** mark that is the most disgusting thing I ever heard on Soxtalk. Apparently you missed Soxy's netty pot thread. . .
  5. I let mine grow long enough that I can wax them and spread them out under my nose like a Clark Gable mustache.
  6. QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 09:43 AM) Wait, a 38 year-old stripper? I bet her Klootwyk was hanging down to around her knees. . .
  7. Really, until the earwax thread shows up, I got nothing.
  8. A fingernail thread!??! Can the nose hair thread be too far behind? I Kid Because I Care®
  9. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 12:20 PM) The Kindle is now priced at $299. I might be game after a 2nd price cut. FlaSoxxMom sent me a birthday check that has "For a Kindle" written right on it. Yea Me.
  10. QUOTE (Kid Gleason @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 11:35 AM) The only time I got close to crying over a celebrity death was when Stiv Bator(s) died. He had such a HUGE influence on me musically (and style of dress) that it was a pretty harsh blow. In the years after though I have also come to find that he was actually one hell of a person also. You won't find a bad thing written about him anywhere. It just seems such a huge shame that the guy is gone, and that he died in such a pointless way. Yeah, the smart money would have been betting heroin overdose, not hit by a taxi. He was shacked up with Liv Tyler's mom for a while wasn't he? Was that before, during, or after Todd semi-adopted Liv?
  11. How about this one. Figure skater Nicole Bobek circa 1997: Nicole Bobek's mug shot after being arrested last week on a charge of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine: YIKES!

    Echoing the sentiments that Star Wars is a film achievement on par with any of the real game-changing films in the history of film. And us 10-year old kids were not the only ones blown away by it when it came out. Also agree that Empire is the best of the Trilogy, and that the prequel trilogy is mostly a sad lesson that bazillion-dollar special effects and the worst dialogue ever written are no substitute for a good story and real acting. And I won't even start in on how much I hate the "Special Editions" and the digital retconing Lucas did on the various trilogy re-releases.
  13. QUOTE (Texsox @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 07:33 AM) What he said. And in a companion thought, never cry over something that can't cry for you. What if your poor kid was born without tear ducts? Did you ever once think about that??!? Azzhole.
  14. Frank Zappa was probably the big one for me when he died. The grief was compounded because he died in slow motion and very publicly from prostate cancer and I watched it happen over the course of a couple of years. The man was such a driven workaholic and he was literally racing death to complete Yellow Shark and Phase III Civilization (among other projects) before he died (he lived to see the release of Yellow Shark but not Phase III). He did a very candid Playboy interview a few months before he died and he was very matter-of-fact about his imminent passing - people get sick, sometimes they get better and sometimes they don't. His big lament was that his pain was such that he could only work a couple of hours a day rather than the 16 hours a day he'd do when he was healthy. Even before he died, I know I choked up when I saw the photo of FZ on the Yellow Shark CD cover when it was released. Wasted away to almost nothing, with so much left undone. Then, seeing him on his last tv interview. . . with full ancient swami beard and barely enough strength to speak. Heartbreaking. I watched the same thing play out with George Harrison and Warren Zevon, but Frank hit me much harder. He had lots more music left to create.
  15. My actual first post on what would become SoxTalk doesn't exist anymore. I think the few people that date back to the SoxNet days lost all of their earliest history with the first Soxtalk migration. I do remember that my first post on the mlb Sox board was quite similar to NSS's first post here, telling people not to panic during an extended team slump. Of course that was in 2001 and we did suck a$$ right out of the gate that year, so, that shows what I know.
  16. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 08:42 AM) Definitely a quality bump. On Gage's penis?!? ewwww.
  17. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 09:24 PM) And either way, I'll be picking up chicks at Burger King very soon if you guys turn out to be right. Just know you'll have to think twice before assuming that's just a little mayonaise on her chin.
  18. QUOTE (Texsox @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 04:52 PM) I guess the reference was too obscure. Yeah, U2 song references are incredibly obscure and arcane.
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 04:45 PM) Franken had a tax issue? I must have missed that. iirc, it was something his accountant should have caught but didn't. he was supposed to file returns in like 20 different states where he had earned money (on speaking gigs, etc.) over the span of a few years.
  20. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 02:07 PM) I've been following you whining about this sunburn for several days now. Even I'm beginning to laugh now. It's probably funny because you're this pasty white guy (I'm guessing) who got burnt and it just looks ridiculous. Shut Up!!
  21. I cannot wait to see that footage.
