  1. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 05:46 PM) So would the Little Mermaid ride be something like the old 20,000 Leagues? I havent been to Disney World in forever, I went to Land 5 years ago. But when I was young I went to Disney World 6 or 7 years in a row. Yeah, that would seal the deal for me. Killing off 20,000 Leagues — despite it's many operational issues and substantial down time — killed a lot of what made Fantasyland and magic Kingdom unique. I also have a lot of nostalgic love for Mr. Toad but they did a nice job with the Pooh ride replacement so I can accept that. As for the current renovation plans. . . I very much dislike the focus entirely on the princesses in the theming, and I agree with that blogger that calling a meet and greet station an attraction is a stretch. On the other hand, most of ToonTown Fair needs to be dozed to build something better. Back when that arae opened it was for Mickey's 60th birthday and it was fine for that. But then they got lazy and added a couple more mermanent elements and turned it into the ToonTown Fair area. My kids grew up loving the Goofy Barnstormer rollercoaster, but it is the single most uncomfortable coaster for adults ever built. The solid molded plastic seats are awful. Our annual passes blocked out for a couple more weeks, but once we're open again I'll be on the lookout for telltail construction signs. Space Mountain's renovation is finished in a couple of months, so that will be good— they always add nice attraction elements when they redo that one.
  2. Unreal. I've watched the MLB.com condensed game three times now and istill can't believe it!
  3. QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 02:45 PM) Oh yeah, we have a Shoeless Joe or two running around Don't disrespect the Kid. I loved dick Allen's old av of dick juggling baseballs and smoking a cig by the dugout. I need to pick up that old SI issue on eBay one day. Gene Honda civic is brilliant. I also used to like SitNarniSit from the old MLB sox site.

  5. Yeah just call me Clark grisswold. Hiking and rafting are just my speed.
  6. Put together an impromptu family vacation, and we're up at Skyland Lodge inside Shenandoah National Park. What a phenomenal place. Saw a momma black bear with two small cubs while hiking today and there are deer everywhere. Did a nice hike down to a waterfall and another to the summit of Rocky Man Mountain. Rafting tomorrow, more hiking, caverns and maybe some trail riding the next couple of days, and then planning on finishing out teh week with a couple of days in DC. No Internet for miles other than a weak 3G signal that comes and goes, so I figured I'd check in and say hi while I had a signal. Later!
  7. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 12:07 PM) That last time we had a babysitter it was for 3 kids at $2 an hour. You are a cheap SOB, aren't you?
  8. QUOTE (Soxy @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 10:58 AM) How weird is it that Jermaine got an emmy nomination but Brett didn't? That is sorta weird, unless he's getting a nod for doing more writing or something. Then again, I'm betting you're a Figwit fan and are coming in with some bias. . .
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 11:28 PM) Have you seen NASA's budget? They do more on less than any other governmental agency in existance. When they do it right, you are absolutely correct. Very proud Space Coast Resident here.

These days I guess I also collect rum drink recipes. Tiki. . . Caribbean. . . faux tropical, etc., my myxology is decidedly and almost entirely rum-centric. A rule of thumb I try to stick with in figuring out which rums I need to keep on hand with limited cabinet space and budget is that I need to have three well-balanced, go-to drink recipes for each rum on-hand (sippers excluded) otherwise it's not worth keeping around. That has actually become a fun challenge, particularly for in-your-face rums like Cruzan Blackstrap or Wray and Nephew Overproof. I think I may have found my third cocktail for the Wray and Nephew (If I have one too many I'll probably be posting the recipe in the drunk thread). Amazing that a country like Jamaica with world-class rums like Appleton Reserve and Extra and Coruba actually actually reports 90% of domestic consumption is the W&N Overproof because it's a pretty harsh rum unless you find the right punch to match it to.

    Downtown people

6pm traffic may be brutal all around, but back in high school with the Jebbies at St. Ignatius, Roosevelt to Ashland would have been the route of choice.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 02:53 PM) Is he still doing the voice in the cartoon series? If so, that is pretty solid. No, a voice-over actor named Danny Jacobs is doing Julien on tv.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 02:27 PM) The only time I've been able to stand Cohen was in the brief role he played in Sweeney Todd. Not a fan of King Julien?? I think his Julien ad libs are the funniest thing he's done by far.
  14. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 11:18 AM) Don't forget the Pope-to-God red phone hotline! Hell yeah! And that Ex Cathedra papal infallability thing is pretty sweet too!

Need to add that for out-of-market baseball fans. the iPhone MLB At Bat app is the world's best bargain at $10. Every radio feed for every game streamed right to your phone, plus game summaries, box scores, in-game video highlights, etc.
  16. QUOTE (Soxy @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 07:38 AM) Actually, I think only Catholics have that option. I've never heard it preached in a protestant church. Yeah, we Catholics have made up a bunch of wacky stuff. Unbaptized babies go to Limbo, but not Heaven. Folks who were mostly good in life have to take a stopover in Purgatory before going on to Heaven. Our priests are the only ones who can actually pull off the miracle of transubstantiation and all those poser Christian denominations are just going through the motions. . . On the bright side, between the options of the 11th hour deathbed confession or just buying a boatload of indulgences, even lazy Catholics throughout history have been able to secure a spot on the Heaven express.
  17. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 04:38 PM) I believe in the soul. The cock, the p****, the small of a woman's back, the hanging curve ball, high fiber, good scotch, that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent, overrated crap. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days. Crash!
  18. I believe the female orgasm is highly overrated, if not an outright urban myth much like Bigfoot and the Liberal Media Bias.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 12:57 PM) I love Rum. What's your favorite? I bought some rum in the Domincan last summer that was great. Also, surprisingly, I tried a rum on my cruise that was a Captain Morgan brand actually but aged about 20 years that was phenomenal. It had subtle hints of vanilla that was just great. I don't normally drink rum straight but that was too good to mix. Favorite rum is sorta like favorite child for me, but some of my favorites are. . . Sippers: El Dorado 15 year Demerara Ron Botran 8 year solara Zaya 12 Ron Zacapa 23 solara Oronoco (brillian Brazillian white) Martinique: St. James Royal Ambre Rhum Clement Mixers: Appleton Estate Reserve Rhum Barbancourt Coruba Goslings (a must for Dark and Stormys) Pussers Navy 95.5 proof (a must for painkillers) Cruzan Blackstrap Cruzan white El Dorado 5 year Give me those rums in my cabinet, along with juices and mixers, and I'm a happy camper.

I have the last gen and love it, but man do I want one that can do video and cut/paste. Only advice on apps is to take time to look through all the free ones before you start spending wads of money. There are some brilliant free apps and most games have free demos that you can usually play until you get bored and save your money.

I guess rum is my current collection/obsession. I grew up on beer and craft beer is still dear to me, but 20 years in the subtropics has turned me into a rum head I simply can't stand going out to most bars and trying to order a rum cocktail or classic tiki drink when I see the two bottles of rum they have behind the bar. I currently have 23 different rums on hand at home and still don't quite have everything I need to match the perfect rum with the perfect cocktail. Nor do I have nearly enough fine sippers. I'm down to a single type of aged Martinique rum right now, and only have one Demerara on hand, so that's kind of embarrassing. And no. That doesn't make me a alcoholic. There are other factors I blame that on.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 01:24 PM) Am I the only person in the world that thinks Harry Potter is lame as heck? The films are fun, always visually enjoyable. Can't hold a candle to the books. I'm very much looking forward to the Half-Blood Prince now that it's finally out.
  25. Belated best wishes and hope it was an Evil but Good one.
