QUOTE(Linnwood @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 01:47 PM) I have (had) Game 5 tickets for this last Sunday. Are you saying if I call and b**** at ticketmaster I will get 100% of my money back, including ticketmaster fees? That is correct.

Evolution, Creationism, & a middleground
No, no long drawn out debates for me. I have plans this evening. :gosox2: But two things, requiring a straight up answer from Juggs. First, as to the alleged lack of a 'why?' in the natural selection mechanism, I think the statement is incorrect if you will allow that a proximal rather than a distal 'why?' is still a 'why?'. In natural selection, one phenotype wins out over another phenotype and eventually supplants it in the population because it is better suited to meet the challenges thrown at it by the operant environment. That is clearly a reason WHY some phenotypes persist while others fall by the wayside. The environment changes over time, and so must the extant phenotypes if an evolutionary line is to survive. Phenotypes cannot remain unchanged over time or they will lose out - the basic tenets of the Red Queen hypothesis. If your accusation of the lack of a 'why?' is more distal in its viewpoint – lack of a higher purpose or a 'grand plan' - then you are correct. Of course, that is left out of the equation by design. And to try to insert any teleological end-point, including humans as the gleam in God's Eye back when organic life first got cooking, would be to undermine the very foundations of the science. I've got a soft spot for the great philosophers and for the matrix fils as well. But Neodarwinism is neither a philosophy or a Hollywood screenplay. It isn't a religion either, despite your past assertions to the contrary. It's a science, full of all the best guesses, knowledge gaps, and iterative refinements that characterize all good science. Any 'why?' lines of inquiry that look to invoke a Divine Hand or some preordained goal of organic evolution do not belong in this (or any) science. As for the second point, and all those proponents of Genesism. . . I sure hope they're fans of the Proponents of the Peter Gabriel incarnation and not that Phil Collins drek.

Colon Gone
QUOTE(Mercy! @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 12:58 AM) I’ve got to disagree with the folks who say that the players will be unaffected by jet lag. You don’t go back and forth across time zones as frequently as these guys have in the past few days without it affecting your body to some extent. That is undisputed biologically. Agree 100%. Adrenaline might get them through Game 1, but as the series drags on the Angels are much more likely to fatigue than the Sox. The most important question is, can the Sox finally manage to extend a winning streak to 9 games tonight?!? Didn't we hit the wall at 8 on three different occasions during the regular season? Go Go White Sox!

Very cool thing for them to do for a long time member of the band's road crew. I hope the recording gets releases, officially or otherwise. http://www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/Music/10/1...reut/index.html

There is one thing Democrats are good at.
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Oct 10, 2005 -> 03:03 PM) Republicans took control of Congress in 1994. Evidentely you were asleep during the whole "Contract With America" thing. I think it was Gingrich that was sleeping during the whole "Contract With America" thing. With somebody other than his wife, of course, but stuff happens. I've never taken the time to properly thank Newt for his philandering ways. Talk about paying for an indiscretion. Not only did revelation of the Newt infidelity help usher the Emperor of GOPAC out of the considerable power he had consolidated and seriously compromise GOP leadership, it also was a very real (if largely unspoken) reason why the Clinton bj impeachment vote failed.
