Couple ex-Sox pitchers w/ Nationals
Rex Kickass replied to Texsox's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 21, 2005 -> 11:52 AM) E-Lo is #4 on the Nationals starting depth chart. Who would have guessed a guy who finished second in the Cy Young voting a couple years ago would be at the ass end of the National's bench? Jon Rauch is listed as coming out of the pen. Red's a good color for him. Between him and Billy Koch history wise, I'd never wanna leave the White Sox as a pitcher. Look what happens. -
MNF's 36th season kicks off with Pats-Raiders

I miss Monday Night Baseball. -
The Cubs have got to be feeling less and less confident every day. With Prior and Wood possibly out for a while, it can't feel good to start to have trouble on the already shaky other end of their pitching rotation. Joe Borowski broke his hand fielding a line drive last week according to ESPN Radio's Mike and Mike.

I just finished "The Bookseller of Kabul" by Asne Seierstad. Compelling, sometimes depressing, and darkly funny. Before that it was "Middlesex" by Jeffrey Eugenides. Read about the exploits of a greek-american hermaphrodite and her incestuous family tree. I didn't realize I was doing it til page 50. By the way, this is the same guy who wrote "The Virgin Suicides." Again, a book that grabs you and doesn't let you go. I'm starting "The Wayward Bus" by John Steinbeck today.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 21, 2005 -> 10:19 PM) I can certainly understand that view, in fact I agree that is the worse case scenario. But notice there is not harm to the patient. He mentions no benefit. So worse case there is no benefit to her in keeping her alive. What is the worse case scenario to standing by and allowing her to die? Again, what is the benefit to Terri in allowing her to die? What is the potential harm in allowing her to die? I have yet to hear anyone describe a benefit to Terri in allowing her to die? If there is no benefit, but a slim to no chance of a brilliant and miraculous upside in keeping her alive, isn't the safest route choosing life? Don't we want our government to choose life for it's citizens? If death is not the end, I see a benefit to this. Assuming that she said that she didn't want to be kept on life support in this kind of situation, which her husband and six levels of judicial review determined, her wishes would finally be honored. And this is about her, right? And her right to life and her right to die? Or maybe this isn't about life at all. Or maybe there'd still be a baby alive in Houston after the hospital took her off life support, against her parents wishes, because the money ran out.

Wasn't Bill Frist also the one who thought you could catch HIV from a teardrop?

That was the 500th post in this thread. Er, 501st.

If that's true, why is the court finding him to be more than acceptable as a guardian time and time again? Edited in: I was gonna leave it here but something here is really bothering me. Why the hell are the people involved being demonized? Neither side is blameless, but it sounds like the parents are out to do this guy in. And so are the folks on the right, apparently, like Sean Hannity and his "Nobel caliber doctor." That s*** just makes me sick. First people grandstand on the sickbed on a vegetative woman, then they destroy the life of the husband who spent 15 years caring for her, and then they ignore the dozens of others of cases like this where the decisions are being made by hospitals and insurance companies. Or even worse, sign bills enabling that into law. Maybe if we pulled the feeding tube from some of these politicians' wallets, they would actually care about everyone equally.
-
Yes she would. Just so you are aware, the Republicans passed this bill and was signed into law after midnight. I would like you to remember that the same people who are forcing this bill into law, supported and helped pass a Texas law in 1999 that allows insurance companies and hospitals to make PEG tube decisions over the wishes of family members.
-
Yes she is.
-
But you can't pass a law to retroactively change a ruling. This bill would do just that. It would erase six years of legal proceedings and start with no history. It's as if the last six or seven years of legal wrangling to get this point would have never existed. If they'll do it in this situation, when else would they do this?

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Mar 19, 2005 -> 09:02 PM) Wow, this is rich, or I must be misunderstanding the article.. First of all, if you're engaging in any form of sexual activity (with another) person, guess what? YOU'RE DOING IT, PERIOD. Second of all, are there really girls out there who will not engage in vaginal intercourse, but will do anal instead?............and afterward they will still consider themselves virgins? That same woman will climb into bed with her husband on her wedding night and claim she's pure? Hilarious. I knew someone in college who had anal sex with her boyfriend and still considered herself a virgin.

From todays Washington Post article on the Schiavo thing. Another side question: Is it appropriate to obviate the constitution and erase a judicial decision because the Congress doesn't agree with it?

I think its just sad that he didn't get the chance to play an at-bat in the 90s. Would have made him the first baseball player to play in five consecutive decades with one team.

There really are too many statistics in baseball

Native Americans sue The University of Illinois
Rex Kickass replied to MinnesotaSoxFan's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I am fully behind Youppi! as the new mascot for Illinois. If any big ten team were to adopt the now homeless Youppi! as their new mascot, I'd be forced to change my team affiliation from Michigan State to that team. In fact I think I may have to honor the University further by enrolling and dropping out of a grad program as well. I support Youppi! because, there is a little Youppi! in all of us. -
What's insane about giving someone a minor league deal? Does it really have an affect on the payroll or the other clubs? If he can turn it around, it seems like a low risk/high benefit possibility for the Mets.

And he makes nasty pizza. Cheepza! Cheepza!

QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 20, 2005 -> 01:02 PM) But, hey that's just the conservative in me. No. That's the human in you.

Tex: I didn't make this judgment. Doctor after doctor did. Court after court did. I wish that the parties involved in this fight could get into a reasonable solution in either case instead of enlisting politicians to wrap themselves up in her sickbed for political gain.

Domo Origato Mr Roboto! Shingo, mostly for the Styx intro. And big Frank in a close second.

Here's another case in Texas, except its the hospital that gets to pull the plug. Because the medicare funding runs out. Thanks to a 1999 law signed by then governor George W. Bush. http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/m...politan/3073295

He pursued an aggressive course of therapy for five years. With no improvement, and according to every medical professional who has reviewed this that I've seen, no chance of improvement. If she's in a perpetual vegetative state with no hope of improvement, why would you try to get her further therapy?

If you're there and in line by 5:30, you oughta be fine I figure. You can always muscle your way up front. But its been my experience that the best place to see a show is a ways back. Unless your planning to fling something at Mr. Thomas you might find yourself stifled, closed in and a little crushed rather than enjoying his laid back easy going matchbox 20 like stylings.
