BTW I think data is going to kill the starting pitcher. It supports pulling your SP after the 1st time through the order. All pitchers aren't going to like this as it will devalue them like it did running backs in the NFL. The data supports the double opener theory, where you have 2 guys pitch 2-3 innings each, and then go to the high leverage, one inning relievers after that.

I'm as big of a Garrett Crochet fan as anyone, but the truth of the matter is that if he's going to be working at 95-98 mph he doesn't have a 3rd pitch. There's not enough velocity separation between his fastball and changeup. It sucks but Crochet is probably a high leverage reliever unless he can find a 3rd pitch.

My radical ideas: 1. Eliminate leagues. Best 8 teams get in the playoffs. 2. increase the regular season to 174 games. Each team plays all other teams on a home and home, 3 game series (math=29x2x3) 3. Unlimited roster size. If an owner wants to put all offense, all defense, and change pitchers every batter in the whole game, be my guest. They must pay the league minimum though for all players on the roster. 4. Salary floor. All teams have to spend a certain amount on players 5. Eliminate the domestic draft, make it like International free agency. You get a certain amount of money to spend on talent each year. Choose wisely. There could be a formula based solely on records over 3, 5 and 10 years. Small market teams get no favors. 6. Eliminate the competitive balance tax. Anyone can spend as much on MLB talent as they want. Instead, institute a tax on teams that win fewer than 75 games for 5 years straight, and a tax on teams that lose 100 games in a given season. 7. Players are eligible for salary arbitration following their first full season in MLB. 8. The commissioner needs to force owners that are non-competitive for a certain period of time to sell their teams. No more 22 year playoff droughts.

The players are being completely reasonable. I see nothing wrong with their asks. The owners should not be given a hard, low-ish CBT without a floor with it. I think a cap and floor would actually be ok. The CBT is a de facto soft cap. Idk what the players don't realize about that. They have already agreed to the luxury tax in the first place. It would be better for the players if every team HAD to spend $100M. The stars will still get theirs.
-
If they only want to spend $$$ at 2B Jonathan Villar is my target.
-
If you won't give him like 4/80-88 or so he won't come here. Conforto makes way too much sense not to happen. Idk what they should do at 2B but if they want to go get Ketel Marte I have no issues.
-
Also if either Cespedes, Colas or both turn out to be good players, Conforto can slide to LF and put Eloy where he belongs at DH.
-
Go get Conforto AND trade Vaughn+ for Ketel Marte. I don't really think the Sox window lasts much past 2023 anyway so they need to get a WS this year or next.
-
Yes, please.
-
I think the floor should be $100M personally, but I don't think the small market teams would go for that. Having a floor would also help small market teams retain their top players. It would incentivize them to spend on the best they can get for the money. Also, it would help contending teams as contract dumps to reach the floor would become a thing.
-
If the owners aren't budging much on the luxury tax ceiling, maybe the players could counter with an $80M floor. That would probably do more for the players as a whole than raising the luxury tax threshold. Stars will still get theirs, regardless. Can't have a soft cap without a floor to go with it.

Universal DH coming to baseball apparently

It's about damn time. -
Um......why hasn't LaVine signed yet???? I get a weird feeling that he's going to leave the more days that go by without an extension in place. Also, what are they going to do with Vucevic this summer? Re-sign or trade for another big? IIRC he only has one year left.
-
The owners are content waiting as long as it takes to get almost everything they want.
-
If they wanted to trade Vucevic, Domantas Sabonis would have been my target in a 3-way deal. Not a possibility anymore.
-
I'm at the point of "I really don't give a fuck about arguing this with other posters anymore because it's been discussed ad nauseam" I hope the players can get something concrete out of this for our troubles as fans, and I truly think some of the players' proposals would make for a better on-field product for fans.

Lambert has been fulla shit a bunch but I'm still posting it because it's fun to think about.

You need to do both. My folks taught me the value of both investing and having liquid cash. If you only invest, the penalties for taking money out when you need it are harsh. It's really too bad I never made enough money as an adult to do either. You can't personal finance your way out of rising costs and falling wages. In terms of the thread, nobody ever told me about the value of networking. It's the single most important part of career success. It's not what you know, it's who you know. However, this is a relatively recent phenomenon and idk if it was a reasonable ask when Boomers and Xers lived in a completely different working climate in their youth.

delete, wrong thread.

Eberflus has put together a nice staff. Hopefully it works. I was actually hoping that they would stick with a 3-4 d as I'm not a fan of the "cover who??" defense. I thought I'd never have to see that shit again when Lovie got whacked. Good QBs that make few mistakes shred the Cover 2 with 7 minute soul sucking TD drives.

https://econreview.berkeley.edu/the-economics-of-sports-stadiums-does-public-financing-of-sports-stadiums-create-local-economic-growth-or-just-help-billionaires-improve-their-profit-margin/ Public stadium financing is yet another example of privatizing profits and socializing losses. That shit needs to stop in all aspects of American life.

Really like that Vucevic is stepping up recently. This is the guy that they thought they were getting from Orlando.
-
Bettman needs to be fired.
-
I hope that the era of public financing of sports stadiums is over. They never pay off.
