NFL offseason 2020, the off-season that may never end
Yeah he's pretty good. One of the better NT in the NFL, and one that actually generates some sort of pass rush. He's old which is why I'd imagine the lack of offers. He'd be a really good one year stopgap to replace Goldman.

Damon "Snacks" Harrison hinting that he's considering an offer from the Bears. That front 7 would be sick with him.

Should we be worried about the Tigers in the future?
Obviously 2019 changed things for Anderson. I'm willing to take the L on that one, but I think I could be forgiven for never thinking he'd become this good of a hitter. As Fred Gwynne and Joe Pesci said in My Cousin Vinny- Win some, lose some.

The bolded was exactly my point from June 2018 onward. There were very few people who believed in him by August 2018. I was pretty convinced he was going to turn it around after that start where he shut down Boston, who won the WS that year. I remember arguing with folks about how Giolito was going to be better than Lopez. I can't remember anyone coming to my defense.

Ok when ST started in 2019 who in the hell thought Giolito would ever be a good pitcher? It wasn't until June of 2018 when he got his velocity back that even I started to believe. He looked like toast in April and May of 2018.

As we've seen with the Sox arms, things can go south in a hurry with injuries and lack of development. The Sox guys were farther away than the Detroit guys are, but you never know what happens once they get up. In late 2017, the Sox had Rodon(chronically injured) Giolito(TOR SP) Lopez (bust) Kopech (Injuries/work in progress) Cease(Work in Progress) Hansen(bust) Dunning(injuries/work in progress) And out of all of them, only one has emerged so far as even a decent SP, and it's the guy nobody thought would.

Just put Moncada on the IL already....
Yeah, I think he'll be ok next year. All we can do is wait and hope. I said in late July that I'd give Moncada a pass for this year. Covid is a legit injury, and he's honestly done better than I expected.

Did Amukamara sign anywhere yet?

The grandal hate is vastly overblown
Grandal is good offensively, but his gamecalling sucks and it's not surprising at all that the pitchers prefer throwing to McCann. It's something for Grandal to work on this winter.

Ben Frederickson (Stl Post Dispatch) salty Cards missed on Robert
I've been trying to find the greatest thread in SoxTalk history for a while. What makes it funnier in retrospect is that Liriano was never the same guy after he got injured.

White Sox @ Royals - 9/4/20 - 7:05 CT
A bit off topic: If only the Sox had asked for Luzardo instead of Lopez......I remember when the Nats needed a closer and Hahn tried to get Luzardo for Robertson. If only that had gone through.

Nomar gets on top of everything.

Why wouldn't you IBB McCann to get to Mazara?

Get the bullpen up. Dunning has no command tonight.

I don't disagree but I wonder how teams are going to adjust defensively.

White Sox @ Royals - 9/4/20 - 7:05 CT
That's not what I said, I mentioned that he hasn't recorded an XBH yet. He looks like a special hitter and I believe the 2B and 3B will come.

He does look like a special hitter.

Madrigal has yet to record an XBH.

2021 Offseason Prediction: Who We Lose and What Will Be Our Needs?
I think Springer is a no-go because there's no balance in the lineup. They're probably going to sign a pitcher and trade for a LH RF.

The LEGEND of Luis Robert ESPN feature article
If they're going to play Moncada the rest of the season, he needs to hit 6th or 7th.

Tim Anderson's Second, Quieter Breakout (fangraphs)
Yup. It's huge.....now they seem to be struggling with pitchers a bit though.

Reynaldo Lopez Optioned to Schaumburg
That could explain why all three of Giolito/Lopez/Cease ditched theirs. Giolito should experiment with bringing back the curveball next year and throwing it more. It probably fits better with his high fastball than the slider does. On days he's feeling good with the command, use the curveball and on days he's feeling off a bit use the slider.

Tim Anderson's Second, Quieter Breakout (fangraphs)
We have to hope that Moncada is ok in 2021. Nobody knows enough about covid to know what's going to happen to him in the future. I'm going to be optimistic and assume he's going to be fine in '21 until proven otherwise. If I told you I wasn't at least a bit concerned that he'll never be the guy he was in 2019 again I'd be lying, but I'm mostly optimistic because the evidence isn't there yet either way. We just have to wait and see.
